Couldn't connect with the MCs one bit as it just moves from one scene to another in a very disjointed fashion. Having the whole 12 bosses already mapped out in the very first episode also makes it getting tedious really. Unless they are creative in their elements I doubt it will be decent. Not to mention that since it's gonna be 1-cour I don't think they will even bother to give it a decent stopping point.

JoJo's bizarre adventure.

It just flaunts it, and the audience loves it.

At first I thought this going to be a cross dressing anime. Lucky that it didn't turn out to be that way. Super power protogonist wield the sword and remind me of Benkai Ichigo used to weild. The pacing is quite fast and have a feeling that there will be a lot things happened in the later episodes. Love the character design and costume of Kotoha.

I didn't even notice that point. If you count obaasan , Katoha and Himeou, it will even out Is Watase writing that good ?

Watase Yuu's most famous work is Fushigi Yuugi. Another of her series is Ceres, Celestial Legend. If you watched those series, you would have a general sense of the type of author she is. Her stories tend to be mature and thoughtful, and it does tend to appeal to more women. She is definitely an above average writer, so I'm probably going to guess that this series will not be a typical shounen type of series.

I would say her stories often have a nice balance; romance, friendship, action, etc, etc, so you don't feel that the story gears towards only that one or two genres. I admire most of her heroines (with the exception of Miaka from FY). They often have to go through one hurdle after another, and in that process forced to become strong. I also like her heroes; they are usually strong, dependable, not angsty to the point of annoying the heck outta me, and very loyal to their lovers.

Her writing aside, I often feast my eyes on her bishies (though they tend to look very similar. I finished FY before moving on to Ceres and later Zettai Kareshi, then Alice 19th and lastly Imadoki. Felt as if Touya was reincarnated in the latter stories that I read, lol). Smoking hawt.

As everyone has said, Watase writes more darker material than your average shojo writer. And as an artist, she draws the prettiest women and men.

Bear in mind, too, that Arata is published in a shounen magazine, and they wouldn't publish, say, Fushigi Yugi. This was a very deliberate "experiment" for Watase to write a true shounen manga, and I think the result so far is something of a hybrid - to mythic fantasy what Oofuri is to sports manga. It's a shounen in style with a shoujo sensibility that peeks through at times.

Nah, many classic shonen mangas work that way. Also, this is not romcom/harem

Except when it comes to the romantic parts, sadly.

Meh, I think a lot of other artists beat her at "prettiness".
She's okay. The most striking thing are her glassy marble eyes....but I'm not very fond of her somewhat pudgy faces on the girls...
As for the guys...they're not really anything special either. I used to think so....and then I read a LOT more shoujo manga and wise-ned up. XD

I see. Watase-san is a woman. That's why there are a lot of male characters in the story. I don't mind since I even like Shoujo animes like Chihayafuru and Nodame Catabile. Those are very good insights, guys. I'm hoping to watch a very interesting storyline. This going to be my first time watching her anime since I'm not familiar with other series you guys mention.

Character design of Kotoha remind me of costume of Yakue tribe in Serei no Moribito

Ah, so this is Yuu Watase. That explains why I don't feel too hot about the art. (I used to love her Fushigi Yuugi up to the end of TV series. I don't like any of her other stuff though.) This seems okay so far.

I chalk this more up to the character designer of the anime. I'm not that fond of the anime translation to the manga...because if you check the manga art here:
http://www.animu.ru/gallery/arata-ka...kangatari.html

Watase's own is definitely superior. There's something "off" about the anime design...and sadly, it's the guys. Kotoha looks spot on!

I think they chose the wrong VA for Kotoha. Something about the VA just doesnt match up to her.

Finally watched this last night: kind of meh....

I like Fantasy Arata better than modern Arata.

Arata sound like the same guy who did the MC in Sakurasou...

Yeah, that was the one voice that I went "that doesn't sound right." But hopefully I'll get used to it.

Kotoha took out the sword which was hidden under skirt. Then gave to Arata and the sword cannot be used anymore. The first thought came into my mind is that it has lost its power because it was taken under a woman skirt.

There are some beliefs in my region that the holy things should not be put under women skirts. Even the women skirt, pants are not suppose to hang above the heads. It's quite discriminating though. But that's how it is.
