It makes a certain sense. Not only is Watamote more in-line with manga readers than anime buyers in Japan (where the manga is likewise a pretty strong seller) but the American anime fan is much more likely to be receptive to the themes than a Japanese person in the BD/DVD purchasing demos.

In fact the manga has been so popular in scanlation that the Yen Press edition comes with a thank you note from the authors to everyone who's already read the series. It's even accompanied by a picture of Tomoko eating spaghetti (her nickname on 4chan being Spaghetti-tan).

Seeing that it's doing really well in the international market, hope it will boost the probability of getting a second season.

And with that I think Watamote already established it's name in the international anime community... Just what I've heard from NHK channel's features of this show, the fact is that this is widely appreciated in the intl anime community... so that list is a proof of that.

It would be nice if this would be one of few show that gets a better reception overseas than in Japan and would help more anime to be made in the long run.

I believe that's a "peace" and the page is announcing that she won the magazine's "character award". But then was my fist thought too, before I looked at the text.

Such a shame that isn't it though. Oh well. We can't all have good things.

You won't get one, but even if they were considering it I'm not sure there's enough manga yet anyway. There will be an OVA in the Fall, at least.

I'm sure there's enough manga to cover more anime, especially since the anime didn't cover entire volumes, but bits and pieces. But even if not, we'd probably be looking at 2015 at the very earliest for anything more to come from this franchise, which is plenty of time for more manga to be made.

Of course, I'm not expecting anything for now, as a lot of shows I liked (Sankarea, Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge, to name a few) weren't well-received, to say the least.

For those who have Ipods/Ipads/Apple devices: Watamote's available TO OWN(!) digitally now.

And yes, it's in Japanese.

Indeed.

Apparently, the OVA takes place during Mokocchi's middle school years, and will introduce Komi-chan!

Just saw this after the thread defib. Anyway, in my opinion, given the popularity of the series, a second season will probably happen sooner or later.

As long as we have the thread resurrected, look what I have:

Too bad there'll never be a Figma Mokocchi. The shows I like never get Figmas.
