Real body? They haad their real body on them with few modification. The real body is with them. They are more like stuck in an alternate world that has the same setting of the game they played and even in episode 5 it clearly indicates the they are the abnormal of that world with them being immortal.

The leader (shiroe) is just calm on the outside but in the inside he also panics and take every info they can get. They observe their surrounding and gather information. The anime might make it simple but they are already stuck there for a month. They are just logical in analyzing the situation so it not shown on their behavior. Plus its not like they can do a thing without a clue on how they got there.

Without a purpose they decide to rescue Serara. That is the initial reason why shiroe did it. Because he doesn't want to be stuck doing nothing just like the other people in akiba.

I'm not even concerned about the "why aren't they trying to figure out more about this world" thing. I've mostly been hoping or awaiting for a big battle to take place. Either it be Shiroe using some crazy tactics and showing how vast his knowledge of the game truly is, or he Akatsuki as well as the others get beat up a bit to show they are not oh so great. I personally feel that this show needs a proper antagonist strategist to go against Shiroe and his team.

Others already mentioned people panicking, turning into bandits, etc. Like you said, your reaction and how you'd react. Every person is different and reacts differently and as such we get to watch how Shiroe and friends don't curl up into a ball but decide to act how they did. He's been slowly gathering information since ep. 1. From simple things like checking his own friend list and getting in contact with people he knows. How their bodies react. To how game mechanics translate to this world's physics. We have been seeing how Shiroe has been gathering information all along. And even if they were familiar with the game world, just being careful and take it slowly is not a dumb way to do things.

In SAO the rules were laid out bare. Here, initially they didn't even know if dying meant revival or true dead. Would you go and kill yourself just to test it? So far without any means of contact with the "before Apocalypse world" and without going out and exploring and investigating the nature of this world, they're limited in what they can find.
Let me ask you how would you find if where is your real body?
How would you find out if you're dead?
How would you contact your friends and family?

I question how much Shiroe is really a strategist when he puts game strategy before actually having a strategy to get out of the game. Talk about ignoring the elephant in the room.
I think a lot of people give answers to your point, but I want add one more.

Shiroe is gathering information and tryng be calm if possible. Take note he simply forgot the twins because he had more important issues to deal and now he is feeling guilty, but the fact he forgot the twins is a signal he is not so calm how he appear be.

So far, all the things that they are doing are just exploring a bit of the new world they are living in. They haven't do any large scale raids yet. There would be a time in the future for this but for now they are still dealing with the effect of the apocalypse. If the city starts getting stable then its possible to ventured forth farther away from the city because you knew its safe when you return home.

I'm not sure if this is a spoiler of it has been spelled out but
Spoiler for Just in case...?:

And I guess they're just, you know, enjoying and doing what they can in their situation. Will panicking help them? Probably not. Will thinking about what's up and why they're there help? Probably. But there's also a lot of stuff happening around them and the guilds going into chaos so...

I wonder too, maybe some of them would be happy about being stuck in a game.... Time to live your fantasies! Enjoy it for a while! Regret later

The hell?
He has done every single one of those, and has been.

Only thing that was omitted was his long thoughts of standard "stuck in another world theories" common in fantasy novels, because you know, anime.

Level 90 isn't a requirement but there is a level required for each recipe that must be met for the cooking to be success. And even if all of them are level 90. The taste of each food varies because of each has different skills on cooking. You really need to treat it as "real" and not as a "game"

You can experiment on the ingredients of food and different preparation to brought out different taste but the level needed is required to make it success.

There's just too little information to come up with any sound theory to speak of, and try getting around and securing oneself is of higher priority. Actually in ep1 there was a player at the background asking for 'someone responsible' to explain situation but the shopkeeper just don't know what to do.

In terms of storytelling, posing theories at such situation would mean some sort of leading or misleading. It's just early to say anything as this will sway audiance attention from the truly important part of the story. And it is also leaving rooms for audience to think of any theory. In the original novel Shiroe is just giving out hints with his thoughts or comments, just like in anime ep5. No solid theory but surely he is thinking.

There are a too much to explore in this world before conclusion can be drawn, including many experiments, observationss, advantures, and death. Later you'll find it reasonable to do all those tasks rather than jumping into non-solid theories.

I wouldn't call it sidetracked so much as a constructive goal to follow rather then just simply "existing." Shiroe had reasoned his group had a far higher probability of success with the rescue operation but there was also the desire to do something, ANYTHING rather then just putter around Akihabara. Rescuing Seara was a more noble goal then just simply turning bandit and preying on people.

I just mean sidetracked in the way that had they not gone to Susukino they probably would have started investigating locations around Akiba or something similar. That's pretty much what they were doing before they volunteered for that.

True, but Serara's need was far more time sensitive, trapped in a city ruled by a guild of bandits fond of pillaging, plundering, and slavery/implied raping.

The main difference with Log Horizon and SAO, is that in SAO the players were told on day one exactly what they need to do and how to do it to go home. In Log Horizon they just got absorbed into this world, no warning, no explanation. They have no idea if there is even a way out of here or any idea where to even start looking. Traveling is very limited as all easy methods have been cut off. This is a two cour show, exploration of the world will come I'm sure, but what the players truly need is a safe and secure base of operations.

Akihabara needs order and security so the players can then focus on probing for ways to escape their situation, because if there is a method it will undoubtedly be a massive undertaking. A united community is needed.

Right, it's not like anyone can rush to try to find a way out, because they have absolutely no information; which includes lacking information about any place to get information. All they can do is what Shiroe's been doing: analyze everything. Observe the world, how it works, how it's the same, how it's different, poke around at it, and see if eventually something might be a clue. But because there is no information about the true nature of this world, you don't rush into that.

I agree, the pacing might be slow but its just an introduction which is why it kinda irritates me when people said their is no development and the people are lacking interest on finding way home.

HOW CAN YOU FIND A WAY HOME WHEN YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW WHERE YOU ARE!

I don't see whats the need for a rush. This isn't your run of the mil milking franchise. Most shows with potential are ruined because they're created with the sole purpose of making money. You think its slow, but in reality even while being slow they already had to cut a lot of content. This is a show for kids, like pokemon (a show that has no actual plot with a pokemon trainer that has barely caught any pokemon) yet this is held to some strange higher standard . Anime are not like Light Novels or Manga. They need to baby you or you'll be very confused because unless you read the light novels your just getting your feet wet. *Important Note* This must sound strange, but a lot of people don't play mmorpgs. So to people who play mmorpgs the series sounds like its dragging, but it makes perfect sense, if you don't explain to the audience they'll just be very confused. Its like trying to teach someone chemistry without ever going teaching them the periodic table.

Apocalypse (Central Calamity) - People are now trapped in a game they used to play on the monitors with keyboards. Their country representing the map of the game and death only leads to a re-spawn.

Despite it being a POV type of light novel the central focus of the anime will probably be on Shiroe. Shiroe has no set goal, his goals come along with the progress of the story. If your impatient than I'd advised you to drop the series now because it won't get any faster. This is probably what a lot of people wanted to happen to Maoyuu, but what people got was some generic boob anime .

We only know one thing, this used to be a game, now it has become a reality in which the set rules of the game are changing rapidly. IE: NPCS are becoming human-like. I've seen a lot of people arguing why people aren't do this, or they aren't doing that. But I want to ask you something. Do you honestly think its very realistic? The world went into a panic when someone said we might have a rice crisis. What do you think would realistically happen if the world got transported to alternative universe where the the rules of social conduct we've learned no longer existed ?

The NPCs would have been a good place to start.

A few standard physics experiments would have been good, too.

I'm glad that the series thus far has had such slow pacing. Oftentimes the best way to make the audience care about the story is to first make them care about the characters, and to that end slow beginnings like these are a great thing.

I love the relationship between Akatsuki and Naotsugu. I could listen to her be tsuntsun and make up nicknames for him like 'Morontsugu' all day. (and I could look at her all day when her hair is down and drenched by the rain. unf)
