???

Look, I'm not a Yozora fan. However this case can't really be blamed on her that much.

Yozora says she wants to do fortune telling so she can spew crap at popular people and embarrass them.

Yozora offers to demonstrate on Sena.

Yozora proceeds to spew crap at Sena just like she said she would.

Sena falls for the crap despite it being obvious, and having been forewarned.

Sorry, but that's not even close to the heights of meanness that Yozora has already shown towards Sena.

Of course, a good friend would have realized that Sena is the most gullible sucker ever, (at least when she thinks she's getting friendship from Yozora), and after a bit of laughter would have said "Hey I'm joking, remember I was showing you how to do fortune telling, it's not real."

Yozora being rather inconsiderate and thoughtless about others never even thought about it.

I would say that the main take away from that event is that Yozora has actually started to have character development. She was visibly disturbed that she hurt Sena's feelings so badly. She was visibly relieved when Kobata cheered Sena up.

This continues the progression from the hairstyle fiasco when Yozora apologized to Sena. Yozora has always been the outsider of the group. Everyone else is bonding and becoming friends, but Yozora was consistently resistant. It was hard to tell if she was really that cold or if she was just concealing the softening.

This season has been all about Yozora's Ice Queen facade beginning to finally melt. First, Yozora has started to teamup with Rika for pranks and jokes. A natural fit, and since Yozora is the sempai not too threatening. Second, Yozora has started trying (ineffectively) to court Kodaka. That is a huge step for her, even if Kodaka was always her one soft spot.

Now Yozora is even starting to soften towards her main rival Sena, who in some way personifies the arrogance of popular people that Yozora hates.

The other thing from that event is something that has been around since early in the first season but that people seem to keep forgetting. Sena is fixated on Yozora. Yes she's in love with Kodaka, yes she's a total Kobata fangirl, but Yozora is probably the most important person in Sena's life right now.

Yozora is the first female peer that has not ostracized Sena. Yes Yozora treats Sena badly, but it's attention, and Sena is starved for female peer attention. That's why anything Yozora does that even hints at positive attention thrills Sena and makes her just lap up whatever crap Yozora is spewing.

That's why Sena is so vulnerable and gullible to Yozora, well beyond what she is to others. I don't think others (except maybe Kodaka) could trick Sena as easily as Yozora does. I think that was actually what Yozora started to realize this episode. Before Yozora just thought Sena was stupid and so deserved whatever happened. Now Yozora is starting to realize that Sena actually trusts her for some reason, and so playing nasty tricks on Sena is actually a betrayal of trust.

I won't dispute Yozora finds amusement in tricking people, sadsim is her trait - in fact the earlier contention on she's a pushover to Kodaka is not always correct - she teases - whether it's tsukomi on his delinquent status, or intentionally causing discomfort (eg the comparing answer part, the point wasn't pretending to be non-friends to get closer - she was sewing seeds of doubt into Kodaka intentionally for her amusement)

It's only when Kodaka rebuffs her in a pubic setting (in the club room) that she gets flustered.
You conveniently ignored that Sena just tries to get back at Yozora though, because it was Yozora who started their little war, not Sena. The othe rproblem with them is that they are interested in the same guy while Yozora has a disadvantage because she is a childhood friend.
Sure Sena's personality isn't exactly the best I'm not sure if i should say its her fault. I mean she still gets spanked even though she is 16 or 17 so its more her upbringing than her own doing.

Yozora on the other side didn't have that particular upbringing Sena had, in fact hers seemed to be pretty normal (at least from what we have seen thus far).
No one in the club has real friends (maybe except Kobato), yet Yozora is the only one who clearly shows malicious intent as soon as someone even slightly more popular than she is turns up.
Just look at what she said about the fortune telling thing - Sena was mearly her tool to demonstrate it, and not her ultimate target.
Just remember what she said: " We will toss all the popular people enjoying the festival into the innermost circle of hell with our own hands'

And yes the others just said yes, but who was the one having suggested it? And this is btw not the only incident like this.

It is without question that Sena has a bad peronality, but the devious one here is definitely Yozora

lol, I know she was tricking her. When I say Yozora was starting to get better, I was talking about the last couple of episodes where she was pretty likable. Her attitude was a lot better than in the first season. She was still teasing Sena but she didn't go overboard. I thought she had finally learned her lesson after the hairstyle thing, but nope. Stopping at simply tricking Sena with that fake fortune telling would have been fine (it was also Sena's fault for being so damn gullible, she never learns either), but she just had to pull a nasty prank on her by telling her to go on the roof at midnight and yell Sexy Beam loud enough for her father to hear, knowing full well it was going to end badly for her. The worst part is that she clearly derived a lot of enjoyment from it, and once again, she did not realize she went too far until after the fact. That's why I was disappointed in her.

Read my reply above. I actually agree with you on quite a few points. My main problem is that I feel Yozora's character development effectively reverted in this episode. I genuinely thought she was past pulling that kind of mean prank on Sena already, since she should know she always takes them at heart. I was gravely mistaken.

Now, I'm aware the "mean" final part of the prank was not what truly hurt Sena, but this is the one that personally bothered me. I can't blame Yozora for the first part since it was Sena who misinterpreted everything (it wasn't even supposed to be a prank initially, and she was even warned!), though she should have stopped once she realized Sena was buying everything she said. Instead, she went one step further and was laughing her ass off. This is what doesn't sit well with me.

I wish Kodaka and the others would also intervene rather than remain passive observers. Kodaka knows full well when Yozora goes too far and he always lets it happen.

I agree with you about Kodaka and the others. They know it's going to end badly and they never say anything. In fact, I find Kodaka to be a bit of a prick with how he just lets it happen. I'm really beginning to see why he doesn't have any friends, and it has less to do with his appearance and more to do with his personality. He's just as messed up as the rest of them, despite being seemingly the most normal.

And I'm really not a fan of Yozora. The other characters, despite their character flaws (and there are a lot of them), are really played for laughs. Yozora just comes off as malicious. Some people may find her bullying amusing, but I don't. If you don't like the word bullying, that's fine, but frankly someone who wants to send anyone more popular than her "to hell" and constantly picks on someone she knows is gullible... isn't a nice person in any way. And we have to remember, she doesn't just do it to Sena... she does it to everyone (except Kodaka).

All the other characters seem to have at least some redeeming qualities, but I just can't find any in Yozora. Just my personal thoughts. I don't hate her character, but I can't bring myself to like her like I do all the other characters. I'm sure a good portion of that is due to her portrayal in the anime.... she's probably more likeable in the LN.

I can actually sympathize with her somewhat-- she's got attachment issues, but worse than that, she's completely stuck in the past. She wants to monopolize Kodaka and get things back to the way there were 10 years ago, but she doesn't seem to realize that they're grown up now. At the rate she's going, everyone is going to start moving forward and making friends while she gets left behind and in the end, it'll be her own fault because she won't step outside her comfort zone. She refuses to change, to grow up and she's the only one who can make it happen.

Rika's been my favorite character this season, though. The whole roller coaster ride cemented that.

I don't mind those two so much because they're kids. Besides, they don't come up with plots to humiliate the other, they just openly state that they dislike eachother. (but do they really?)

Exactly how I feel. Like I said earlier, Yozora's attitude towards Sena might actually be fun if it wasn't like that all the time. Because, let's face it... Sena really brings it on herself a lot, but everyone else just ignores it (or dies a little on the inside). Yozora, on the other hand, goes in for the kill.
A little moderation would be great. Otherwise she just feels like a bully, regardless of whether or not Sena can handle it.

Carry on!

Yozora is a jerk and Sena is chesty-the-airhead, so obviously these two are bff.

Now if I allow myself to take this show seriously even for a second, then perhaps our resident harem hero plays a crucial role as to why Yozora is playing the "bully" on Sena.

Yozora is not a jerk, she just never had the touch.
She also has all the right to be frustrated, she only wanted to spend her time with Kodaka but than other sexy-looking girls came. However, Kodaka is not really showing any intention for any of them. ;)

Anyhow, although it is not others' fault, I see Yozora hurt the most and wish her best luck.

Oh, and yeah, Sena and Yozora will probably realise they are BFF in the end. :D

Yozora's not a jerk? I'm sorry, but the only person she hasn't been a jerk to at this point is Kobato, I think.

Can we really say she's been a jerk to Yukimura? I mean Yuki, is pretty much a rock. And when Yozora pranks her they are mostly slightly above tickle-fight level. So I guess it's: Yozora has not been a jerk to Kobato and Yukimura* at this point(Possibly even Rika & Kodaka too if you stretch it a little bit)

What Monir wrote (during that momentary lapse of reason), Kodaka X Sena bring out the worse in Yozora.

Also Yozora hasn't trolled Rika too, but the opposite has happened a couple of episode ago

Yozora put Yukimura in a maid's outfit when she thought Yukimura was a "he". It's played for laughs, but it's really a pretty cruel thing to do to someone who comes to you because they believe they are being bullied and come to you wanting to make friends and learn how to "become a man".

And then once discovering that Yukimura was a girl and has had gender identity issues her entire life, Yozora puts Yukimura in a butler outfit because Yozora thought it would be funny. That's supremely messed up.

That depends on what you understand by the word jerk. I see jerk someone that likes to mentally and possibly physically destroy someone else brutally and cruelly. Yozora sure likes to do mean things to others, but as we saw by her backing down, she has a limit as well. She hasn't been a jerk for my understandings, but someone mean.

She's not even being truly mean. She's like that one friend who loves to prank his or her friends real hard, and likes giving people jabs. And Sena just happens to be the easiest of the whole bunch by far to prank because she's not just hilariously gullible, but also tries so hard to pretend she's not. Absolute prank bait.

Her prank this ep is kind of like when someone goes to the dorm showers and his or her friends take and hide all of their clothes and towels, and the pranked has to dash through the dorms to their room butt-naked. Except it's better in the anime because the only ones who saw her was her immediate family.

It seems harsh but everyone's laughing it off the next day, and in time the pranked him or herself is laughing it off too. What would be harsh is if they forcefully dragged that victim into the open, took pictures and videos, and uploaded their suffering to the net.

Certain events in the episode have to taken with a grain of salt considering the context of the show as a comedy, and to some extent a romantic comedy. If we look at other shows such as ZnT, for example, Louise's repeated whipping of Saito is not meant to translate into an actual whipping in real life. In the same way, some of Yozora's pranks are exaggerated for comic humour, and are not meant to be taken literally.

Having said that, I would nevertheless rate Yozora's actions as having gone somewhat too far based on the slice-of-life setting. I wouldn't go so far to say that she's been a jerk to everyone though.

Popular with guys a slut does not make.

Pretty much the only "normal" girl around here is Maria. The rest of them all have some pretty serious issues. Sena's as loony as the others, but she at least feels she's being kind towards others, be it in a condescending manner or not (and yes, I know that doesn't make it okay). Yozora, on the other hand, is just outright hostile towards her and has been from the moment she set eyes on her in season 1 episode 1.
