I thought this would be similar to Working!, but the animation quality leaves me a bit disappointed, seeing how it's 2013. The characters so far aren't bad, hope the next few episodes are more promising.

I am absolutely certain it's someone related to Hasebe.

You know the person approving Lucy's birth certificate being related to Hasebe is so obvious I can't believe I didn't think of it.

Not just the matter, but the manner: the understanding of the work world in a bureaucracy was great, but so was the flow of things, the way they strung it all together. And I didn't find the animation bad at all: it was clear and simple and did have a bit of style.

Episode storyboarded and directed by the show's overall director, Yamamoto Yasutaka (Valkyria Chronicles, Squid Girl 2, Mondaijitachi). Written by the show's lead writer, Shimoyama Kento (recent seasons of Bleach, Binbougama ga).

But having worked for government at one time, I simply loathe the "they don't work hard" joke narrative. Some do, some don't, but to reinforce the stereotype is a way of making government irrelevant, when government is the only tool we have to protect ourselves from being ruled directly by the corporations and their media, whose interest lies in encouraging us to be nothing but passive (over-)consumers. In any case, that's why I'm resisting the irresistible Hasebe, whether he has a heart of gold or not.

The writing was sharp, the visuals were good, and the cast was excellent. It's nice when a show you expect to be excellent lives up to that.

I think this might wind up my favorite show this summer. Now to find the manga somewhere...

I was kind of uncomfortable this time around while I was watching this episode, but I think I always feel that way when starting a new season. Good to know I can have this as a cool-downer for anime.

Those grandmas remind me of certain people that I work with(I work in assisted living)

I seriously didn't think of one of Hasebe's relatives being the one who screwed up Lucy's name.....

There are astonishing numbers of tiny Obaa-sans in Japan, most with hair colors that don't occur in nature.

This show is pretty great, actually.

Surprisingly they got a lot of that culture right in terms of the different kinds of "customers" you run into. Especially the elderly folks. I live in an area with a higher population of retired people, and so working at WalMart (and in electronics no less) I had a lot of older people telling me stories and having to wear my "it never ends..." face.

Edit: By the way, what a hideously addicting opening. I love it.

I actually liked it, and having worked (and still working!) in a public department, I've seen a lot of the stereotypes presentd there.

After watching this SxS, now I can confirm that civil workers are pretty much hated everywhere, not just in my country . But the work ethic presented here seem to be a lot better compared to the civil workers in my country where almost all of them are as lazy-ass as Hasebe (if not worse) but without his "brilliance" .

Anyway, it’s a solid episode. Refreshing adult characters (I wanted to say "mature", but some characters are simply not ), refreshing setting, and refreshing comedy. Like others already said, I hope the show doesn’t ran out of gas (or gags) after its 3rd episode or so.

Wow, it was actually kinda interesting watching Yamagami freak out about every little thing.
Hasebe is a total slacker and player while Miyoshi is totally clueless and lost.
Yama was the only one of them giving it her best.
Wow, she certainly went far to get her revenge.
This anime is kinda interesting, but I'm indecisive about watching it or not.
I might give this one a chance if nothing better comes along..

As someone who is currently stuck in retail and pretty much hating it, this episode hit a little too close for comfort and not in a good way. I hope I won't to see too much more arsehole customers being arseholes (and the fact that I already like the characters only compounds the issue), because otherwise I might be raging at the show, even though it's so funny as well. Nice. One series to follow this season. I can't wait for more.

No kidding.

But still, why do civil servants allow such insanely long first names other than being lazy? One of my old classmates had like 5 to 6 first names.

Err... How actually did Lucy pass the interview? She should write her full name in the application form right? (or am i wrong?)

And yes, is that Megumi's hair accessory came from Yui? because it looks REALLY similar. (noting the seiyuu, too)

1st episode rating : 9/10. A totally enjoyable premiere, Wish the jokes won't degrade until the end to make me survive this anime.

Excellent. Just excellent. I really liked ep 1. It is nice to see the adult section (admittedly the young adult section) of society being portrayed in a "normal" context. Very, very good stuff imo, and an instant "keeper" for me.
