Haven't seen the episode yet, but Europe nations were willing to join African nations and named themselves African Union? Wow

Also, that crater in Australia . That's more or less where Zeon did their colony-drop in the UC-universe. Yes, Zeon nuked Sydney with their depopulated colony during the One Week Battle .

so there was like this universe's own version of a Zeon like faction that dropped something on Sydney & the One Year War? why Australia always gets the hate by some space based settlement in the the Gundam series?........

Interesting episode though noticeable drop in quality.

Lots of world-building (yay!) and plot setup for future episodes. Mika also carpet bombs the episode with Kudelia flags (all a bit sudden if you ask me).

Todo is totally going to betray the kids at the first opportunity. Orga... you know that's coming, right? (That's why you gave Akihiro a job to do secretly, right?)

In ep 5, we're going into space!

There's a fair chunk of English in this episode explaining recent history. Incidentally, Chryse is part of the Arbrau territory of Mars - this is mentioned in ep 1 but at the time we didn't know what Arbrau is.

The 4 territories on Mars are each managed by one of the 4 Earth territories. Different regions have different amounts of autonomy. Still not quite clear what Gjallarhorn is or what Nobliss is/are.

Gjallarhorn seems to be the UN with A Real Military.

One of the things that makes Iron-Blooded Orphans different from the rest up to this point is that the usual Princess - Pilot dynamic is reversed: in traditional Gundam shows with said dynamic, the pilot is ignorant of the world's affairs or has a distorted subjective view of it, and the princess is the one who slowly shapes him through their interactions, whether it be Heero Yuy - Relena, Kira - Lacus, Setsuna - Marina, Banagher - Audrey etc.

In Mika and Kudelia's case though, it's Kudelia who's slowly learning more about the world as it's explained via Mika, and the best thing is that Mika does it without being condescending or being arrogant on his part: he has none of the self-righteousness that the other "princess" characters may have had the situation been reversed, he just lays it out cleanly and plainly. And here, where he shows her exactly why her worries aren't quite as grand as it seems, it's nice to see that beneath that killer veneer, Mika actually is quite thoughtful.

It's also nice to confirm that Mika did know that Atra made him that bracelet, and that he's thankful for it. Out of all the "stoic" Gundam leads we've had so far, Mika so far is hands down the best of them in terms of characterization: he doesn't angst needlessly, has a good head on his shoulders, and isn't afraid to show kindness when necessary, but at the same time he's also the most pragmatically brutal of the stoic leads. Sorry Setsuna, but there are people more Gundam than you now

Mika will regret not choking Galeio right there and then.

Fareed is truly a char! Bringing sweets for little girls and is even engaged to a 9 year old.

Well Nobliss isnt the guy in the opening interesting.

Lol what about Orga it be amazing if he couldnt get action over Biscuit and Mika.
Also really I am surprised Todo is not getting watched like a hawk.
Oh and the spikes only appear in combat

They really are saving animation budget on episodes with no combat.

Well if they are setting up for deaths, Todo would be the best person for it but Todo better be prepared to be the one that is choked to death though.

I am sort of disappointed that they made Todo into this one-dimensional character. He could've been a bro.

Well, Lowe already said what I want to say above, so I’ll just add my other impression on the episode:

It’s a nice breather episode without any mecha fights but doesn’t feel like it’s a filler or useless ep. We got a good amount of character exploration here, from their personal infos, interactions, and the main plot that’s still going forward. So, McGillis is kinda forced to be the fiancee’ of a 9yo girl? Man, I feel for you. I assume people will say (or have said) nasty things regarding that arrangement. He might be labeled as lolicon, pedo, or power hungry bastard , but let’s see if my assumption is true or not. Speaking of McGillis, his first face-to-face meeting with our MC is more or less similar to Char & Amuro’s first face-to-face. Both of them involved a little car accident where the handsome antagonist is offering some help afterwards. It seems they really want to make him the Char of the show huh? But instead of being accompanied by Lalah-expy, our Char-expy was together with Garma-expy who almost got choked to death by (berserker) Amuro-expy. What an amusing turns of events . Oh IBO, you never failed to entertain me so far. Good job.

Aside from that, we get to know more about Biscuits’s family (hey! His granny has a normal name!! So where’s the funny snack-names come from?!! Was it her doing?!). There’s also more chara-development for Aki, and Todo doing the best his character are meant to do: to backstab our protag-group. Can’t wait to see his backstabbing plan next week.

Overall, a really nice calm setup episode.

Before this episode, they already published an IBO side-material in the form of a "diary" written by a mysterious CGS member that sounds a lot like Todo. In the diary, it’s revealed that the writer always hates the CGS children and not really a good guy and only cares about himself (among other interesting tidbits that will probably not be touched by the show itself). Take that as you will.
