"Heke" might be the sound that squirrels make to Japanese speakers, kinda like nyan for cats and chu for mice. That's my best guess at least.

What is that bitch Izumi up to? Trapped the innocent girl! Than did something Akihito the bitch. She and the Spirit Hunter Society are both up to absolutely no good.

Good episode. Seems like things are starting to wrap up.

Damn Izumi.....did she just kill her assistant off?
Spoiler:

and I was sooooooooo sad that the one dude was going to seriously wound or kill Ayaka in her demon form. I hope no one harms Ai either.

Scarfboy is really creepy

Despite the manipulations of the guy from the Spirit Hunter Association, I'm still very suspicious of Izumi's intentions, especially in regard to her conversations with the hidden elderly man in the cave.

It is clear both the Nase family and the Association have their eye on the Kyoukai no Kanata, but why? From the way Sakura is duped into feeding dreamshades to the gun-sword reclaimed by the Spirit Hunter Association guy, it seems at least the stones are a source of power to the Spirit Hunter Association.

And it makes you wonder who Ayaka sells those demon cores to?

Nah I don't think so. But she did use her as a guinea pig.

Izumi's special ability is supposedly freezing things. Without a more in-depth explanation on how it works from the anime, we can only hazard guesses what her ability actually does. My guess is that she puts things in suspended animation. In such a state, it is still alive and preserved indefinitely, but not aware of its surroundings.

That might explain what she did to Ak, at least conceptually. Could be wrong, but.

She 'partially froze' his human side, weakening it severely. This let the youmu side slowly gain dominance.

The running jokes are getting overplayed, yeah. It's honestly starting to seem like lazy writing, or just plain poor writing, to me. It's like the writers can't come up with anything for the characters to say during more relaxed moments except the same old tired jokes they've been doing all along. Either that, or they're just not willing to put the effort in to come up with more diverse dialogue. The former is "poor writing", while the latter is lazy.

Kyoukai no Kanata has a lot of nice elements, but the way it blends them together leaves a lot to be desired. Instead of the various parts of the blend complimenting each other, they often serve to undermine each other. It's hard to build compelling drama about guys who only care about their fetishes. On the other hand, the drama is thick enough in parts to stop the show from being as effectively lighthearted as, say, K-On is.

I will give the latest episode one bit of credit though - The scene where the Appraiser turns into a wondrous battling creature was very cool and impressive to watch. The action scenes have all the spectacle necessary, and maybe even more than necessary. They're fine in that regard. But they sometimes feel hollow to me as I can't bring myself to care much about most of the characters.

The cast is a bit shallow, but I do like the mystery so far. My biggest complaint isn't the cast though, it's the pacing of the plot. The show is at its best with bits like Hollow Shadow and the small slice of life touches like sharing the meat with Akihito. The comedy bits, especially the fetish humor, are really hit and miss and get in the way of characterization more often than not.

Yeah, I definitely did like that we're actually getting some sort of cliffhanger for this episode. All previous episodes just put up a conflict and shattered it within minutes.

That aside, I still stand by the fact that I can only remember the names of about 3 or 4 characters tops. That's not good.

I agree with this. I sometimes don't even find it that funny in the humor bits. I feel like the glasses fetish is just tacked on or something. There are parts where one scene moves from a serious to funny in a short amount of time. I sometimes ask "What are they trying to do here?"

Her ability, as do most members of the Nase family, is "glaciate barriers". It probably carries the idea of "freezing", but can affect intangible and tangible things alike. During Fujimi's visit to Izumi's house, a fish-like youmu is seen preserved like those bony fish fossil displays rich people have on their homes. If I remember correctly, that youmu was put under a glaciate barrier.

Hrm... well, if I understood it right I had anticipated some of the plot developments in this weeks ep. Which is rare for me.

A pretty action packed ep, but one still filled with jagged story development and an overly rushed feeling. I may have finally "recovered" from ep 6, but it still left a sour taste in my mouth I can't quite forget. I really would like to like the series.
