I think the number of people who would try to pick a fight with God would be pretty low.

Okay, let me rephrase: "which wow that I think about it, makes it rather strange that Misaka was that surprised that a level 5 could repel it".

Better?
Meh I put it down to the stress of the moment.

Erm yeah I would advice those of you with posts about stuff that isn't in this episode to do something about them before we have a repeat of earlier this week.

And she did see Touma do that. Hell she even later decided to use the iron sand as a distraction rather than attack. Sure Touma was putting a bit more effort into it but not that much and I don't imagine she actually believes Accelerator was "doing nothing".

Ilidsor probably has the right approach in just fanwanking it away. I'll just say this attack was different somehow.

Mikoto tried that on the first season. But the moment the iron sand got touched, all of it got dispelled. It doesn't matter which form it takes if that gets negated anyway.

I also think she's in denial about that. It's understandable why she cannot bring herself to admit the fact those sisters are actually as 'human' as herself, everything happened in less than a day and she was thrown into a roller coaster with the climax being witnessing the murder of someone who was a spitting image of herself. If she admitted the sisters are also 'humans' it'd be the same as seeing herself butchered, not once but over and over again.

That's the point. He wants to be so strong that people will be driven away just by hearing his name, that no one will dare to stand in front of him as they know there's no way they can match his power. Being a strongest level 5 means nothing if another level 5 can climb their way up to his league.

Well Accelerator's motivations were talked about this episode and since the only spoilers were in a link I posted to another thread I think it's allowed.

That's hard to answer without spoilers. Let's just say it depends on whether he enjoys killing. You have a lot to lose from having to kill thousands of girls, starting with your sanity.

You'd think so, yet I've seen that happen plenty of times in anime. People in Saint Seiya Omega are currently trying to take down the main character precisely because he's killed a god. Some people would go to any length to gain fame. People going after Accelerator now are already completely out of his league, they wouldn't care get if he got so strong he couldn't even be called level 5 anymore. All that matters to them is that he's at the top.

There is no generally accepted pattern of human behavior. It's just your point of view and your concept of psychology. It is unlikely that many would have found another way to his place. And the others are unlikely to find a better way.

Well to be fair...she's only seen 1 other Level 5 in her life [The Queen] and up until now. Apart from a certain protagonist who can negate her attacks, no one has been able to stop her attacks, let alone "Reflect" it. She has never seen Accelerator before, and it was only moments later after seeing his power and listening to him talk, that she figures it out.

And as someone else said, she was under a lot of stress + anger. So I doubt she had much time to think rationally anyway.

Losing his sanity... Isn't that shown trough his psychothic behaviour?

Still, at least that gives him a hope of finally being left alone, in peace.

If by stress and anger, you mean that the stress and anger made her forget he was a Level 5 then that would make more sense. I was pretty sure she at least knew the guy was Level 5 based on what she read of the experiment before coming to the site but it was a pretty indirect way of knowing so it might not have completely factored in her mind.

She's already seen her Iron sand attack being repelled by someone who she can only assume is Level 5 or below and I don't think it takes any degree of rationality to be not be surprised at something. The problem though with saying that it's just about the stress is that it undermines what the scene was trying to achieve in the first place. Misaka being surprised at Accelerator repelling the Iron sand was meant to be an indication to the audience of how strong Accelerator is. It's a very obvious narrative device: The aim is that in making the POV character surprised, it's a cue that the audience is meant to be as well, so the aim is actually for the audience to be surprised via Misaka. And Misaka's surprise has to be genuine, otherwise there's no reason for the audience's surprise to be genuine. So now in explaining one question we've only raised another. I prefer my theory in that it was just different than the one she tried on Touma.

I really don't care about his personality. I focused on the fact that we got to see two Level 5's fighting...and it was incredibly unbalanced. Misaka didn't get a scratch on him.

That's what I loved. For all her "Who do I think I am?" or "I am a level 5" boasting, she couldn't even land a blow on a fellow level 5.

Especially when he finally gets a new toy after putting up with a couple thousand clones who can do little more than running for their lives.
Guy wanted some quality entertainment from Misaka. Unfortunately she failed to deliver.

Of course it is. In s1 she made a blade/whip or something out of iron sand while this week it was a tornado thing. Your theory is spot on!

She also made the tornado then. My theory was this one was maybe stronger because she practised or was holding back at Touma or something or another.

It had to be stronger because Misaka was in berserker rage mode this episode. She definitely had the intent to kill and wasn't holding back, unlike with Preacher Boy. I don't know if she ever had wanted to kill someone with her powers before, but it seemed pretty clear this time around.

EDIT: Saten and gang are crazy enough to openly oppose Accel simply because he hurt their friend (and none of them are even lvl 5), so that may be a reason Misaka kept the truth from them.

Did she? I don't really remember that part. Anyway it's obvious she didn't intend to go all out to beat (or kill) Touma back then, however we all can feel her killing intent in the fight against Accelerator.

Yeah it was probably the rage although she must not have realised she was capable of that much power until now. Or maybe it wasn't just killing intent and she was consciously holding back against Touma as well.

Forgot to mention. It only costs 180,000 yens to make a Misaka clone? That's damn cheap. I'll take two.
