Accelerator would just shoot her though. We should probably take this to the Accelerator character thread though, otherwise we'll get into spoilers really easily.

Guns shouldn't really pose a problem for Mikoto.

One question i always had regarding the sister experiment was why Mikoto never thought of killing the scientist responsible.

She's not really after revenge (except for the moment when she lost her head), she wants to stop the experiment. Killing the one who started it would achieve nothing.

not entirely, if she kill enough of them, she might scare the rest away form the experiment.

And you'll note I very carefully avoided saying a single word about that situation. You might, however, have taken the time to note the words I did say about him with his powers, and thought about what they would mean, given that that has been the situation for pretty much his entire life.

You're underestimating AC's scientists. [mod edit: removed hint about non-railgun topics]

But without going there, just think it like this: They are willing to create a demon god for the sake of science, a few deaths among them would not be enough to dissuade them.

Erm yeah, he has her beaten on those two accounts as well.

If you put a powerless Accelerator vs a powerless Mikoto and give them free reign to do whatever, my money would be on the one way street.

From what we've seen, no.

No he doesn't have her beat in any of those fields. He literally just stood there until she tired out and she realized how broken his ability is that he doesn't have to do a thing which has nothing to do with him.

You could give a baby his ability and it would still be broken as heck even if said baby just sits there and can't even walk or speak.

You aren't reading what I said.

If it was a no power fight and they fought with their own natural strength Misaka would kick him to curb without breaking a sweat. Misaka is also very intelligent as well while Accelerator is just crazy and relies upon his ultimate defense to wear out his enemies before going for the kill. It also says something about his lack of ability and imagination that he literally just stands there until he can walk over his exhausted enemy after doing nothing.

So the only reason Accelerator won here is because of his broken ability not that he's actually strong, skilled, or even intelligent.

i haven't seen anything that says he lacks ability or imagination. With his power he just never needed it.

Accelerator just stood there because that was all he had to do to win the fight. It's obvious from this that you haven't read Index so I'll just tell you (in as vague terms as possible to avoid spoilers) that even withot using his powers Accelerator is a badass.

Esper powers are literally based off of intelligence. The very fact that he beat Misaka is proof that he is smarter than her.

I'm going to ask that all novel/manga readers refrain from participating in any speculative discussion in this thread. And also, this whole speculative discussion about who would win in some sort of power-less fight is not really related to this episode either.

But it's so frustrating not to correct people

Lets deal with it by the time being .

Lets not talk about novels or manga here guys, mods are gonna start deleting posts.

Also, Destined Fate is the kind of person who won't accept your point even if you tell him spoilers about the novels or manga. He is just pro-Misaka so lets avoid arguing with him. End.

Thus he lacks it.

If you never need it than it never develops.

Like say I choose not to work out anymore because I usually don't need to do anything really physical(Medical Assistant) at work.

Am I strong still? No.

Excuse? Never needed it.

If you don't work at something than obviously you aren't going to be great at it even if you're naturally gifted(and we have no idea if Accelerator is even naturally gifted at anything but having that power).

The episode clearly shows Accelerator just walking around without really exerting any effort against Misaka or even the clone in the previous episode. Instead he lets his power naturally do everything for him until they're tired out than he goes in for the kill when they no longer can defend themselves.

What we know is that it's hard to imagine them without their powers.

The fact they don't show something isn't proof of its absence, particularly when there's no need to show such a thing. There just isn't enough evidence in the anime to this point to either prove or refute your point, because he hasn't been placed in a position where said evidence would be put on display.

Anyway, this tangent has gone on long enough. Please just let it go.

I was pretty sure she at least knew the guy was Level 5 based on what she read of the experiment before coming to the site but it was a pretty indirect way of knowing so it might not have completely factored in her mind.

She's already seen her Iron sand attack being repelled by someone who she can only assume is Level 5 or below and I don't think it takes any degree of rationality to be not be surprised at something. The problem though with saying that it's just about the stress is that it undermines what the scene was trying to achieve in the first place. Misaka being surprised at Accelerator repelling the Iron sand was meant to be an indication to the audience of how strong Accelerator is. It's a very obvious narrative device: The aim is that in making the POV character surprised, it's a cue that the audience is meant to be as well, so the aim is actually for the audience to be surprised via Misaka. And Misaka's surprise has to be genuine, otherwise there's no reason for the audience's surprise to be genuine. So now in explaining one question we've only raised another. I prefer my theory in that it was just different than the one she tried on Touma.
In my opinion, I honestly don't think she even "thought" about who he was [let alone remember that he was level 5]. She was probably thinking more along the lines "F*** THAT GUY KILLED MY CLONE I'M GONA KILL HIM" *exaggerates*.

She was going berserk. She wasn't thinking rationally. You can see her go full out throwing all her power at Accelerator. I'm sure when you utterly want to destroy someone...you couldn't care less who they were. You just want them defeated.

I think the problem is that YOU know he's Accelerator, but SHE doesn't. From her point of view, out of the all the people in this city that she met, NO ONE [except Touma] was able to come out unscathed from her attack. She is Ranked 3 out of 2.3 million people and she's proud of her power. When she can't defeat someone with her power...of course she would be surprised.

Spoiler for Comparison to the manga:

-------Sorry post getting long------

tl;dr: She went berserk. She wanted to kill the guy. She wasn't thinking straight. She doesn't know what Accelerator looks like and has never seen his powers before. She's rank 3 and she's proud of her power that has allowed her to defeat so many people in the past [except Touma, but he's an special case].

Seeing another person [who she doesn't know] be able to deflect her attacks are surprising for her. The audience on the other hand, may or may not know who Accelerator is. How surprised you are depends if you knew who he is and his powers. Mikoto in my opinion, was genuinely surprised and it's justified.

Whether you think it's genuine or not is up to you, I just wanted to explain my point of view of why it's justified and have no mean to cause conflict whatsoever.

----Side Rant----

The problem with a lot of people is that they KNOW who characters are....they KNOW the ending due to outside sources [aka Index series]. Now everyone needs to put their feet in Mikoto's shoes and understand that she knows ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about ANYTHING. She only knows the stuff of what we've seen in the RAILGUN SERIES and not the Index series.

Thing is she doesn't who are responsible. All she knows this could lead to the very top.

From the first season Mikoto knows AC scientists can be bastards using children as lab experiments.

She won't resort to killing then, she wont resort to massacres now.

Accelerator is the exception. He had a choice to turn down the experiment but he didn't.

He killed someone close to Mikoto, her little sister, that is why she tried to murder him.

Mikoto tries to rationalize her clones are not human even if she knows they are because every time one gets killed she is reminded her little sister is getting killed in front of her over and over again.

This is very traumatic to Mikoto.

wouldn't accelerator be smarter than railgun
1 he has to factor in a lot more calculations for his powers to work
2 he's been a test tube rat since a kid and had countless of tests
3 he's shown to be more intelligent with technology with out using hacking powers
