The ending of episode 3 had me feeling warm and fuzzy inside This is such a nice anime, it feels gentle and caring too. Compared to the others that came out this season with tons of action and fan service, this one is pretty much on par if not better than the rest simply because it's an enjoyable show to watch

Not sure tbh (anyone else remember if something was more plainly spelled out like that?) - at the very least they look very alike.

She's a descendant certainly. The fact that she's a true-blooded daughter of the shrine tells us that. Who knows about reincarnation.

I thought it was pretty obvious that Makoto's the descendant of the girl who saved Gin?

Yeah - I should have been more specific - my bad.

Descendent is obvious (she's the 15th iirc) - that's why she can see Gintarou to begin with. I was moreso not sure about reincarnation part of the question.

I don't think there's been any insinuation that reincarnation is part of the deal. I think it's simply a matter of heredity.

Sometimes I forget that anime heredity can be one powerful force of nature.

Speaking of heredity ... something just occurred to me. In ep 3 when they go and visit the other temple to drop off the turtle herald, they see a young man that Makoto's friend says "What a hottie!"or some such, and the lion-dogs mention that he is the true successor to that temple but that his father is very old and retired.

Is that young man the same as the one that pops up in the next ep? Who practices kendo and who is able to see the "young fox"? Or is it a different chara altogether?

Different character - he looked much older to me.

And based on the episode preview and opening, that young guy can already see his herald.

Yeah ... I was just kinda wondering if the next ep would be something like "the former, sickly, old priest died and the young heir suddenly becomes able to see the young fox spirit" or something like that. But I'm also suspecting they are different charas....

Something tells me the Natsume comparison will increase after the latest episode.

While you're correct on the background story but it is a different character.

Hmm. Like but unlike. To be honest there are a few similarities (at least for me personally), but the feel of things is very different. Kinda as if NatYu takes place on a journey in another realm, but through the wilderness through places barely inhabited, whereas Gingit takes place in another really in it's large town parts. Umm... if that makes sense at all?

All that aside, I really enjoyed ep 4. Of all series airing this season this is the one that most makes me go: "Gah! I have to wait another week for the next ep?!"

There are definitely some similarities to Natsume in this boy's story but Natsume had it far worse I would say. The way this boy tries to act all tough is also very different from the way Natsume handled things. Natsume was more awkward in his interactions with others. Although they both developed this need to not be troublesome for others.

Anyways enough comparison I did enjoy this episode a lot and I am interested in seeing how Makoto and Gin will help this boy and break through his shell. It is obvious he did care about Haru (the way he petted him all night was making me go daww) and wants Haru to leave because he thinks it will be best for Haru. Also it is the typical "I need to do it alone" stance.

I've seen it all before but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy this type of story.

Yeah. I get what you mean about seeing it all before. There are many common themes, storylines, etc., and I find I really appreciate it when someone is able to take those building blocks and breathe life into them. Not an easy task.

It is interesting that you made the comparison between Natsume and Satoru as individuals. I was moreso thinking of the entire "feel" the portrayed settings and charas as a whole give off, tho in retrospect it can certainly apply to individuals as well....

Not dead "building blocks" but living "memes." These themes, storylines, etc., etc., survive because they have in them the power to move people. But as you say, it takes creators who have the ability to bring out the life in them and help us experience their power again.

Now, I don't want to make exaggerated claims for this show, which is good but so far not great. However, I enjoyed ep4 a lot, despite the unpleasant little fox. I can feel the young guy's painful determination to do the right thing for himself, for his shrine, and for its messenger. The episode was over before I realized it was half done -- and that's always a wonderful thing.

They introduced another recurring character who isn't in the OP. He's the red head dude who passed Saeki and Funabashi in school.

Also, another Kill la Kill seiyuu in this show.

hm, some new characters and developments in episode 4.
Big temples aside, I wonder how seemingly small shrines like the one Saeki lives in is able to stay afloat. Small enough that it only needs 1 chief to look after, and never any visitors so donations don't seem that high.

Satarou's not a bad addition to the cast. I can already feel the sexual tension between him and Saeki building up lol.
