He disappeared not long after the frist wall fell about 5 years ago.

Man that just what you call a brother in arms right there. It's just his souless facial expressions the voice actor tho really gives him much needed character and makes him sound more way believable and trust worthy.

People questioning if Hanji is a girl come on guys that is kinda insulting to the artist don't you think it is clear its a girl...

Say what you need to say and move on with the plot we only get 20 minutes each week people, I need my plot fix
It was like that in the manga bro, And if he would have said the wrong thing he would have been shot up and turned to swiss cheese it was one of those think before you speak moments.

The only thing filler here was showing levi and hanji in actual combat the scene with the dieing solder happened man you guys are forgetful.

I liked this episode a lot. Despite how this squad leader is, I don't think his action against Eren is unreasonable. For most people, reasons and logic are easily ignored in the face of fear. The fear of Titan for these people are innate. At this point, it's in their DNA. Yeah, this leader doesn't have much of a foresight, but it's not like people are actively resisting his decision. In fact, most of the soldiers around him are more than ok with Eren's being blasted to kingdom come.

What would be interesting to see how a leader like Levi would react to this information and if he would have seen Eren's transformation first hand. The guy hates the Titan just as much as Eren himself, but would he have been able to recognize the opportunity Eren's ability poses in their overwhelming fight against the Titans? I kind of liked the little detail about how the neat-freak Levi grasped the bloody hand of his dying comrade without a second thought.

Anyway, 8 out of 10.

They probably could get court-martialed. Then again, if it was Mikasa getting court-martialed, they will probably let it slide and send her out on the recon team. If it was Armin, who is unproven in eyes of the military, then he'll probably get the death sentence for disobeying orders in a time of war.

Either way, I do expect that all the people involved in this battle (Eren and friends) will end up on the Recon Squad for whatever reason that transpires.

As for the soldiers, in this scenario, they have no right or wrong. Eren could be an enemy. All they can rely on is their commander to make the decision and take responsibility for what happens. The only thing that might make them hesitate was the possibility of tasting Mikasa's blades.

So it was

1) follow the chain of command and listen to their captain, which will result in their untimely death by the hands of Mikasa, or
2) disobey their captain, get court martialed, get sent to the front lines, and Eren might turn into a titan and eat them anyway.

Also, the soldiers were really scared at that moment. What do people do when they are under extreme stress? They usually look for the easiest way out, which is listen to the captain in this case (does not require thinking).

His actions this ep are fully understandable its his past actions that need him to be killed on sight dude left the front lines what kind of captain does that. Kill him slowly.

No one knows I am still speculating. Maybe he is a traitor to man kind I mean why can't he save the town himself he must have some other allegiance its the only thing that makes sense.

I got the whole thing about Levi coming off a bit of a jerk and being a clean freak and then the contrast of him holding the dying man's hand...but somehow I think it would have worked better if they had not revealed that so early. It takes away from the character development in a way to rush it in one scene like that.

Oh no doubt that his cowardice is playing a huge role to why any response from Eren wasn't going to be good enough. That said, would Levi have acted any differently? His sheer hatred for Titans may have been more than enough to go for the kill all by himself.

Also, I wonder if a transformed T-Eren will have similar vulnerability (the neck region for example) as a regular titan.

Didn't Eren pop out of the nape of the neck?

Probably useless in human form but Titan form that is where the cockpit is.

Levi's fucking sick. Also digging his theme song.

Would love to see him fight Misaka as both are completely badass.

So, Levi looks to be the strict, rough around edges sort of person that would be hard to get a long with. Thankfully he doesn't seem to lack compassion for others and surprising more driven more then what one might think at first. His skills are definitely the real deal too, those two Titans would have needed two squads to bring down (not mention the high chance causalities) yet, he does it effortlessly in mere seconds! I don't think even Mikasa matches up to something like that. Hanji looks to be eccentric sort of person, I don't I've seen anyone so excited to see man-eating giants, least not like that. It was she was a kid going to a toy store kinda of feeling. :heh;

Speaking of giants, goddamn! Being in a Titan's stomach is some life scaring stuff and worse, Eren wasn't only one still alive in there. To be completely helpless to do anything but watch your life drain away would break anybody, hell even Eren almost did despite his struggles. This episode finally confirm that his father indeed inject some unknown drug into him to bring about Eren's transformation with side effect of fragmenting his memories. Interesting enough from brief images Dr. Jeager looked really desperate and makes me wonder if something was after him and what he was hiding. Whatever the case is, he's no mere small town doctor. Curiously, before the fall of Wall Mania, I remember him stating that he was heading into Inner city, you know that place that only government officials and possibly nobles can enter.

While not unsurprising, but understandable, the soldiers are pretty terrified of Eren now and his partial transformation at the end isn't doing anything to assuage those fears. The question Captain Douchebag makes sound as to imply that he was a Titan to began with it. The way things stand it looks like Eren will probably have escape and make his way to Shiganshima on his own. How he'll do that with all those Titans out there is another.

Anyway, another great week.

let's see what those soldiers know

A fellow soldier just pops out from one of titan's back. They'd been train all their life to eliminate Titans if they came within their enclosure. They don't know anything about the newer deviant types so Eren could be another one of them

On another note, also like how this episode subtly showed the general skill and mental differences between the Recon Corps and the trainees and some of other Garrison members. Even that dying Corps soldier still put up a fight at the end despite being severely wounded.

This episode was literally a string of amazing scenes. Levi seems to be an extremely capable fighter, maybe even more than Mikasa (And more stylish too, with that throwing blade attack).

Also impressive was the whole sequence after Eren gets devoured and ending him bursting out in his new titan form. Nice touch that all the titans that killed his friends are dead now.

Last part pretty much confirms that his dad is entrusted him with that power and naturally is related to the titans in some way. What the hell is in that basement?

And another freaking cliffhanger...next Saturday is so far away.

Hope not.

So far it looks like Misaka's all about raw talent with speed. She swipes the titans clean and fast, even during her training she could hit two targets in one swing. Nothing fancy while cutting straight to the chase.

Levi seems to have skill (from more experience of course) and tricks up his sleeve. Like casually, flinging swords into the titian's eyes, and following up with a spinning top attack of sorts. Even that glasses chick seems to enjoying herself.

Too bad Eren isn't even in the same league without his titan hack.

Levi definitely has more experience than Mikasa, that make him in advantage, but I think Mikasa will catch up.

Hey I just thought they got us Eren killed cliffhanger, why don't they give us the three of them killed cliffhanger . . .

Rather pathetic debut. In his defense...sure he got caught off guard and yeah the author was trying to make a point. Would've still liked to see him put up a fight.

Just had a thought too. It would be rather awesome if we have a sword duel between two characters with 3DMG gears on.

That's a very good point!

Btw, I know it has been mentioned like in every other posts, but boy... the music in this show is godly!

Hanji's portrayal thus far reminds me of a similar slightly-odd bespectacled casual-talent fighter, Mari Makinami from Rebuild of Evangelion...

Nobody else is either. Doesn't mean they suck and can't kill Titans though.
