I wasn't trying to make a big fight about it; if I had thought your post contained a clear spoiler, I would have deleted it.
I figured. Still, I'd have raged if you did.

Huh, anyone who knows Japanese well enough can check if any of the anime PVs or the anime site spoils it? My Japanese is still novice level...

If you want to talk about spoiler dissonance (not that I'd expect you to want to actually), there's Princess Waltz. Something that's supposed to be a big reveal midway through the game is in the synopsis of the VN... I shudder to think what will happen if ever it got an anime adaptation.

Just watched it though by mid episode I started skipping though it, to be honest I found it pretty dull and the pink hair girl is incredibly annoying.

I'll give it another episode or 2 but this is likely going on my dropped list.

I wonder i'll do make it like Majikoi. Make it so that it gets the viewers ready for the VN sequel.

According to this anime's entry on Animes News Network, Ryouka Yuzuki, the female seiyuu behind Eruruu of Utawarerumono and Charlotte Hazellink of Princess Lover! is portraying Bertille in this show.

I have to ask whether or not Ryouka Yuzuki is the same seiyuu playing Bertille in the WR game (and the upcoming More and More! fandisc). Bertille is set to become a "winnable" heroine in the WR fandisc, and that will require her seiyuu to make (censored) noises. I'm not sure if Ryouka Yuzuki has ever done that before.

Anyway, this first episode looks more like a fanservicey teaser of things to come rather than anything significant in the overall story arc. On a side note, those of you who would like to try jousting in a game can check out the recently-released title War of the Roses: Kingmaker below:

No word on whether or not anyone will mod in skins for the WR characters yet (though I'm sure such a pack of skins would be very popular).

How... it seems the MC is a former "knight" and the fact that all of the girls are chasing after him in the very beginning. He might have been very famous back then based on the flashed backs.

I liked the heroine but..... that ED.... I feel disappointed if her hair would be....

Okay I just finished the first episode and I'm really pleased with how it turned out. So we know the dude is a former knight who quit for personal reasons and he has a potential harem right off the bat (no surprise there), I wonder how Mio's training for the duel she inadvertently caused is going to turn out. Sure sucks to be her, but this will most likely push the MC into helping him get back on track again. It's cool that the jousting premise being implemented nicely, and I hope to see more of the concept when things get under way.

This is going to be a fun series...hopefully

Are you taking about Mio? If so then I don't mind the short hair because it makes her look more "mature" and knight-ish. But long hair girls are cute too.

Yeah, I know exactly what you are talking about. Too bad I watched first episode and got hooked by jousting now, I will have to watch that annoying Sakura girl, hope she will die in some stampede and have ruined my mood for whole week everytime it doesn't happen. (Why are such girls popular? I honestly wonder about that for while, but couldn't find any answer).

In mean time for these who played game, do you thing is there any significant chance for any other girl?

I just wonder if there are other ways to portray goofiness without being infuriating to some people. Male characters seems to be able to do that, why cant the girls? Personally I don't have as much issue with Mio like some people here, but I can see why that would be the case. If you swap the gender for her she's pretty much your typical goofy yet highly talented MC with untapped potential in the sports genre. Well, some MC have more of the drive, but then again, she's yet to pick up the sport.

The lack of solar flare does makes this series seem less trashy even with plenty of pantyshots here and there. It's funny how those censorship you see in other shows actually draw your attention to them.

Having said that I do get bored by half way through. Perhaps that kind of jousting isn't portrayed interesting enough for me.

Yes, according to this page, she plays the character under her alias of AIRI, which she also used for the role of Mei in Hello, Good-bye, a 2010 game from Lump of Sugar. I don't know how erotic her roles in these games are (although I can guess), but those are the only roles that site shows her using an alias for. My own favorite Yuzuki Ryouka role was Yukino, the baka sister in Candy Boy.

That site indicates that the original game came out in 2011, and a new one, Walkure Romanze More & More, comes out later this month.

As for the anime, it seems to be a reasonably good version of something not terribly elevated. My interest did wane watching Princess Lover, but this show started well enough. I hope they don't put Mio through too much....

I remember defending Shimizu Ai's high, high voice in Onegai Twins. But this time, it took even me a while to get over being nails-on-a chalkboard about it playing Mio. Between around 2009 and 2011, Shimizu-san seemed to have very few anime roles. That surprised me, until I realized she had turned her attention to erogames, where she seems to have 25 different aliases.

She has that many alliases, because she never "keep" using the same alias for more than 2 or 3 games. Also almost every of her alliases are related to automobiles/ cars

As for the episode itself, i am not impressed by it but let's see how it will turn out after a few weeks

I see, so Ryouka Yuzuki is in fact a full-on eroge voice actress, (censored) noises and all. In that case, I hope that if Utawarerumono gets a rerelease that is less linear and has individual routes for its heroines, I hope that Yuzuki-san will reprise her role as Eruruu in the 18+ version.

Yes, Mio's voice is quite annoying, as is her character archetype (airheaded childhood friend). I do hope the anime writers will in fact try to give her more endearing traits than just what we saw in this episode, though.

I often like goofy, airheaded characters. I mean, I like Yui Hirasawa a lot. I like Komari in Little Busters! But there's just something about Mio that really grated on me in the first episode. Maybe it's where she's just all over the place, with nobody to truly balance her out with.

To be fair, part of this is my own fault. I went into this almost entirely blind, and Mio's character design made me think something very different than what she actually is. For one thing, I never thought somebody participating in a jousting competition would be this airheaded and "squeaky moe" (for lack of a better term, perhaps).

Mio's characterization would be easier to roll with except most of these girls seem to be getting played as jokes, to be blunt. It's admittedly only one episode in, but there's not as much personality diversity amongst the cast as I'd like to see.

It's also hard to get much of an impression of the male lead since he's quite reserved, a bit flat, seemingly a bit indecisive, and seems to be harboring some sort of deep personal issue and/or regret.

Those criticisms being said, the character and setting designs are very nice, and truly lovely to behold. That seems to be one of the common strengths of eroges, as I've noticed this with a lot of anime adaptations of eroges.

And the jousting matches look pretty solid, so there is potential there.

I'll probably give this another episode or two to see if these characters can get some depth to them.

Eroge adaptation is Eroge adapting.

Though I guess having the main heroine be the one that develops from an air head to some badass jouster instead of the protagonist is a bit interesting.

He's pretty much the standard protagonist for an eroge I don't expect much from him.

Take the Mio's story as an underdog story from the sport dramedy genre.

Does the fact that they don't use shields when they joust irk anyone as much as it does me? Maybe I'm just nerd raging, but it seriously drives me crazy.

I could just see a mis-aimed lance gouging someone's throat or eyes. Now I know that probably won't happen, but it really, REALLY bugs me. To the point of distracting me from the nice animation.

I probably just killed a thousand catgirls from attempting to apply real-world logic to an anime, but they fact that the still medieval drawings and the kids playing in the street both were using shields makes it all the more obvious to me.

Those nerd-rage complaints aside, the animation is excellent, to the point where I don't even mind the CG (and normally I DESPISE CG when its mixed with classical animation). The horse animation is a bit stiff in the neck, but otherwise this anime is visually really nice.

Hopefully I can get past this no-shield bias, but I make no promises. >_<
