Its been a long time since 2008 season.

Well, indeed the retell is strong here, but it was good.

I couldn't remember why Touma said "my dream is to return safe to home" so I went to the novels to re-read that part on the bridge and noticed why he said that: certain someone is waiting for him afterall.

Meltdowner would die from laughter watching this episode.

I'm not downplay how amazing the episode was, but still I wish for new plot parts to be covered. God even some fluff with Saten and Uiharu will do. Maybe staff has the material more figured out so they can lay another layer on performance. Mikoto is getting some good "fat" on her personality.

P.S. That was a setup by staff to make Mikoto look supercute when she was crying. most ppl look like a squashed tomato.

Favorite part of this episodes conversation:
Quote:
Mikoto: There are no heroes who will rush to the aid of crying damsels--
Touma: Just wait here.
Even though I've seen this all before, I felt like I watched it for the very first time! Can't wait for Touma vs Accelerator v2.

Tsuchimikado for example, is a level 0, and his ability can close off broken blood vessels by covering it in a weak thin film membrane. So its not really setting up the Strongest vs. Weakest, its literally that by Academy City standards
There are other Level 0s that don't display any sort of powers at all either, like Saten.

If anything Tsuchimikado is the weird one with an actual relatively displayable ability.

Even Level 0s usually have a small AIM field to detect just it doesn't do anything for them. Even Saten has a small AIM field.

Touma however due to the effects of IB has no AIM Field of any description.

This episode is AMAZING!!! I've been a Touma and Mikoto fan since the first ep. (started with the anime and moved on to the LN) and this ep. reminded me why this arc made me into a Touma x Mikoto fan for life can't wait for the next ep. love the symbolism in the end credits for the temporary character change (even if the fight is still from Mikotos perspective) next week can't come soon enough.

I've always kind of felt Tsuchimikado's ability warranted level 1 or 2. Sure, he can't control it and it's weak, but he can actually do something, unlike every other real level 0 we've seen (not Touma). Maybe he kept his ranking low on purpose to avoid notice?

That's probably it.

Level 0s have certain political freedom that allows them to do certain things.

This episode was just too awesome for words. That bridge scene - THAT BRIDGE SCENE. It was the same scene as the one from Index I but my god, it really just shows how character development and change of perspectives can change a good scene to an amazing one.

In that bridge scene in the Index version, Touma felt more like a badass. In the Railgun version though, he felt like Mikoto's prince charming, rescuing her from her predicament. I prefer prince charming.

No matter how many times that bridge scene is revisited, it never stops being utterly beautiful...

It really just keeps being awesome no matter how many times I go back to rewatch it. The whole scene on the bridge was just outstanding. Especially just like going back to Touma blocking Mikoto and how intense that was and how touching the after effects of it were.

I conclude this because it is phrased that way in all manga/anime/LN versions of this... and so is therefore most likely intentional.
I'm sure the English was intentionally phrased that way. It was probably the translator/editor's preference to make the line sound more dramatic. That doesn't mean that the meaning you want to read into it is present in the original line.

学院都市最弱のレベル0 so 学院都市最弱 (Academy City's weakest) is describing レベル0 (level 0). So it is not describing Touma. Touma isn't even the subject, Accel is, and the topic is the assumptions of the experiment. Touma doesn't throw himself into it until a couple lines later.

Also after listening to the whole line, that translation doesn't translate a word ('nanka') which also supports the idea that the English was intentionally altered for dramatic effect (though honestly, the original meaning is still present in that).

I don't mind cause they did it for translation consistency then

I've seen/listened to this episode 25 times... maybe 30. I don't know.

I took a break a few hours ago. I finally had enough... for now

I don't know. They just made it so powerful here. The OST made it more powerful than the manga. It was well-done anyway.

BTW: TV tropes says amusing things / they made me think of the real reason why Touma is helping Mikoto here. (it's stated in the episode. I think most people missed it as did I... time and time again. I finally got it last view.) Looking at tropes for Touma's character helped with this though

^ What, friendzoned?
Anyway, that was a fantastic episode. The sights, the sounds, how everything in that bridge scene was unfolded was really a notch higher than the first two seasons of Index. I think I've seen this quality in several episodes of Shakugan no Shana Final.

That was a great episode all round. Although I did enjoy the Sisters arc in Index, I don't quite remember being this emotionally involved. It just never ceases to amaze me what an excellent job Nagai and the manga has done to flesh out these characters, (although to be honest, Touma is still the same as ever ).

My only gripe (I mean besides that cat being miraculously okay) is that I think it would've been a lot better if it were one of Misaka's friends at the bridge instead of Touma, or that it would've been better if Touma had been more integrated in the previous arcs so he had more of presence instead of feeling like he's just been shoehorned in. But oh well, the constraints of a side story shall rear it's ugly head once more.

I will say that her friends wouldn't be able to do anything. He at least has a chance albeit a very small one.

Also, he was here in the last few episodes and he did appear in season 1. Also, there was a good reason he didn't appear in earlier arcs this season (this isn't revealed in Railgun S):
Spoiler for Index season 1 spoiler for some perspective on Touma's actions:

Hopefully that should explain why they didn't do it. This is why watching both makes for an even better viewing experience. This is why this episode is so powerful as well

I know you know since you watched Index. But it adds extra emotional depth if you think about it.

Misaka's friends would only be cannon fodder for Accelerator.
Furthermore, because they are her friends, Mikoto will avoid dragging them into her despair.

The real reason Mikoto is crying is because she got friendzoned by the guy she likes
