Lotus - Ultimate techique or just plain stupid? [Spoilers]

now we know that the "Lotus" is suppose to be the ultimate tramp card of expert tai-jutsu specialists (gai, lee). But is it worth it?

i mean come on, whens the last time lee actually beaten anyone with it?... half the time he just ends up screwing himself.

i bet lee woulda won the elimination match if he kept on punching gaara with his superb speed.. instead of going for 1 gamble blow.

Spoiler:

This technique makes the user many times more fast/powerful/whatever. Now if his oponent is stronger even if he is in this gates open state ... it's not his damn fault. It boosts your stregth dramatically, but it might still not be enough to beat your oponent.

Just because Sasuke's chidori didn't defeat Gaara doesn't make it just plain stupid. It still uses up a lot of chakra, if Sasuke misses his chidori twice and is standing there without chakra ... he's going to die also.

Weather Lee is standing there with a crushed body ... or Sasuke out of stamina, with no chakra ... both will die if their oponent was almost unaffected by the attack.

If Lee had kept just using his speed during the fight with Gaara, he would never have actually beaten the freak(most of us probably know why and I'm too lazy to put a whole other spoiler). He used the lotus
Spoiler:
only because he knew he was probably screwed anyway, and was willing to sacrifice his own good health to take Gaara down with him.

In any case, Lotus techniques of every variety are awesome.

64 hands on hakki ... lame technique because the oponent somehow found a way around it? I dont' think so.
I realize it doesn't leave you all beaten up and half dead ... but it is still an ultimate technique. If it fails ... chances are your oponent will overpower you or hurt you badly.

Also the lotus has many different stages. The strain from opening only 1 gate is not so great that he can't recover after it. So it's not that catastrofic.

The Lotus techniques are some of the most powerful and useful taijutsu there are. The only problem is: Lee is a dumbass. Why, for instance, does he get his ass handed to him on a silver platter by the sound ninjas for doing the lotus, when he could have just taken off the weights and beat the shit out of all of them. He was stupid to even try to use the Lotus in that situation as he would have just beaten one and been too injured to take care of the other two. If used at the right time, such as after he'd found out the other peeps techniques, where he could have taken out the wind guy and the girl then used the Lotus to take out Zaku, the Lotus is extremely useful and powerful.

Well, that's all part of Lee's character. it would be terribly dull if every character waited to analyze all their enemies' techniques and then act accordingly. Every single person would just be an imitation of Shikamaru and Sakura...I like how the different personalities determine different fighting styles. Keeps things interesting.

I completely agree with you about the personalities. Lee is one of my favorite characters. I am just saying that the Lotus is in all actuality over-powered, but that it is just Lee that makes it seem a little weak. Its cool that Lee could be a strong fighter and show how much hard work can pay off without being so over-powered that he has no faults.

Lee vs Sasuke - No turtle, Sasuke go to hospital
Lee vs Dosu - Zaku cushioned the impact which was supposed to do the main damage
Lee vs Garaa - No choice here; however, had Lee taken off his weights to begin with, he might have been able to executed the Initial Lotus without pause (the gourd will still dissolve probably...)

If Lee had no regard for human life, and he was a total badass, he could have used his speed and stabbed Gaara in the eye with a kunai.

Simple and Clean, well not really since there'll be some blood but you should get the picture. No need for any fancy spin kicks or bandage wrapping, just a good kunai through the eye and its all over.

LMAO

It may work but Gaara has internal armor as well that may protect him. It protected him against Lee's punches relatively well.

But that would be hilarious.

was it not during the first test that gaara puts sand in his eyes to create the 3rd eyeball? he might be covered there.

I dont think thats what happened, he had two fingers covering his eye, while the sand developed into some sort of sand-eye on his other hand.

Well, that depends. Granted, opening the gates is self-destructive, but so is doping and most high-level athletes do it anyway -- it just depends on the situation and the stakes.

If not going all out would mean ending up dead one way or the other, I for one would certainly do it. Suicide missions are also a possibility, although I don't believe there are many of those.

The lotus and the variations are good techniques when properly used. They seem to me as great Taijutsu skills but they are defendable. Therefore IMO you have to beat up the opponent first and then finish him with the lotus. As it is used now it recklessley charges at the opponent without really thinking about the after effects. If used properly it can be devastating, if not, not.

I doubt that the secondary lotus is Gai's trump card--although opening 5 gates or plus could be. I bet he has other tricks up his sleeves.

The lotus is the first step 2 opening the gates I think.
Also if nothing else had happened lee woulda been fine but because he got his arm and leg crushed its a problem.
