Mushishi movie confirmed; could be a longer version of the special though.

I think it's pretty safe to assume that's simply going to be the concluding double chapter, which isn't going to fit into the TV airing. Just like the special after the first cour.

ANN: The Mushishi: The Next Chapter anime's television broadcast ended on Sunday with an announcement that the Mushishi: The Next Chapter's Suzu no Shizuku arc will play in theaters early in Summer 2015. The film will be a special compilation of "Suzu no Shizuku," which was the last two-chapter arc in the main manga series.

Mushi-shi with a movie budget... My mouth is salivating and considering how beautiful the last special looked...

Wait, you make it sound like the story got continuity. I know the first season had some extended arcs, but, did the second season ever go beyond being episodic?

The series always had continuity - it was just subtle. The concluding double-chapter is the concluding chapter - it finishes the manga for a reason, and that's what the movie is going to adapt.

Mushishi on a movie budget could be interesting. I'd like to see all that static vegetation getting animated for once, maybe with CG techniques similar to those they used in Wolf Children. Those looked so nice.

The official website for the Mushi-shi anime adaptations has announced that a feature film Mushi-shi: Suzu no Shizuku, which is based on the final two chapters of Yuki Urushibara's manga series, will be screened at 10 theaters across Japan from May 16. The same main staff with the previous TV series including the director Hiroshi Nagahama are attached to it.
It will be screened with a special episode "Odoro no Michi" based on the two chapters included in the manga's 7th tankobon volume.

The teaser was a nice, well, tease, but the best part is the news that the film will apparently be released on Blu-ray alongside the last two episodes of the TV series come July 22.
