Animator's Expo Shorts

I'm surprised there wasn't a thread on this already. Basically:

Quote:
Description
The short film series "Japan Anima(tor)'s Exhibition"
presented by Studio Khara and Dwango

Original projects, spin-off projects, promotional films, Music PV, and VJ Films etc...
Various omnibus animations produced with love and energy, regardless of any genres.
The digital distribution anime series bring opportunities for project development, R&D, human resources development, and free production under limited period and budget, to explore the possibilities of future film production.

Otaro Maijo Kazuya Tsurumaki, Yoshimichi Kameda

and more.
Here's links to the first 3:
The Dragon Dentist

Hill Climb Girl

ME!ME!ME! (Highly NSFW)

ME!ME!ME! is the one that came out recently that has everyone abuzz. I recommend watching it on the site rather than youtube because's something that you'll miss if you don't watch it in the website.

Apparently there'll be 27 more that they'll showcase in the upcoming days.

I have seen both Dragon Dentist and Hill Climb Girl.

Dragon Dentist was pretty good, though kinda unexpected and surreal in a good kinda way - at least for me.

Hill Climb Girl was okay, but I was more impressed with the cgi animation. It looked better than most I have seen.

Each short was about 7-9 minutes long....

Should this actually go in the General Anime section? I only realized I might have made it in the wrong section after posting it.

ME!ME!ME! is indeed by far the most interesting so far, with a real Gainax feel. But shouldn't this thread be on the "General Anime" or even "Current Anime" board?

I think I will move it to the Movies/OVAs/Specials section for now, and ask the other mods what they think.

The Dragon Dentist felt very 80s era Gainax. ME!ME!ME! was well done but pretty glib. Didn't care for the other one at all.

I doubt anything is going to be able to top ME!ME!ME! but I'll still check out for others. Not all of them though, 30 is a lot.

Just watched ME!ME!ME! and was thinking "WHAT THE HELL?????!!!!" throughout.

Dragon Dentist was OK I guess. Kind of think they could have made more of it at a usual episode length at least.

The title Hill Climb Girl had me wondering whether it'd be in the same basic territory as Yama no Susume, but again was a nice idea well executed. Was unreasonably amused by the appearance of Bradley Wiggins (I always find referring to him as 'Sir Bradley Wiggins' makes him sound like he should be wearing a stovepipe hat and riding a penny farthing).
The CG in this short kind of puts the CG in Sanzoku no Musume Ronja to shame, I thought.

Worth keeping an eye on this, is liable to be a bit hit and miss but could be some good things come from it.

I'd like to see Dragon Dentist as a full-scale movie.

Eh, the CG still looks clunkier than Ronja's to me.

ME!ME!ME! is definitely the best animated so far, and has a very creepy message to it to boot.

What would that be? I saw the vid on youtube, and it's the same length.

Ah, I see now. On the site, they loop the vid back to 1:32.

ME!ME!ME! carries a pretty powerful psychological punch, and it is remarkably subversive. Also, it's animation quality is excellent.

Dragon Dentist was really meh. That's a good example of an incoherent story (or more like the beginning of a story, especially how it cut off at the end). Hill Climb Girl wasn't great either. Arpeggio of Blue Steel had much better 3D animation.

Ironically ME!ME!ME! is by far the most interesting of the bunch.

EDIT: Here's the full title: 「ME!ME!ME! feat. daoko」 TeddyLoid

Because searching for teddyloid on the forums brought up nothing leading me to create an unnecessary thread..

When watching ME!ME!ME! I was reminded somewhat of Speed Grapher in places and Stocking in others, with a little splash of NGE for good measure. Overall a nice sampler for this year.

Me!Me!Me! is really trippy and probably more interesting than Rebuild of Evangelion. (lol at the deranged Eva figures). It had some nice directing that has that Gainax feel as it is from Khara, but I didn't care much for the Gainaxing, so was kinda alternating between the ass (yay) and boobs (so-so). xD But in any case it gives off the eerie feel and deranged mess of those that fall too deep into fantasy. Well, that sounds familiar.

ME!ME!ME! actually pretty good for a song on itself.

Precisely. That's why I'm in agreement with some posters above. I'm in love with The Setting and potential Worldbuilding instantly; A full movie or series based on it would be great. Its like WW1 with Giant Dragons as Flying Dreadnoughts, and the MC is just an humble but honored servant and crewmember.
