I don't doubt that, but my point was that three murder cases would be too few for a murder mystery game, so there are probably more, so the plot probably won't switch to something else anytime soon.

One thing to say about Monokuma is that he is very strict about rules, even if there are loopholes he acknowledge without any qualms whatsoever.
The very fact he could slaughter all of them if he felt like it and still stick with the mutual killing farce is a major gievaway that he is following his own set of rules, for his own objective.

But when Naegi walks steps into the school area, everything outside is fine. Either something would have had to have happened that day or everyone was in a some sort of sleep state to survive that long.

They are all in the matrix. This is just a game. The moment they defeat the game master they all wake up, and my Junko will be still alive and well.....

Godamnit why did they have to kill her off so early?

Yes, at that moment it was still fine, but there are a few hints. The fact that Yamada remembers that they all used to be classmates and adding the pictures, would have to mean that they spent at least some time together, during which anything could have happened in the "outside world". Then there is also that note "don't leave this place". Then also did you see the background in Naegi's video? That did not look "fine" to me.

And then there is also something that I don't think was mentioned in the anime, but it was in the manga adpation which present scans are around the same timeframe as the present anime episode (I didn't play the game):

Spoiler for Manga:

It's pretty disappointing that they crammed the investigation and the trial within the span of a single episode, especially considering that I kinda enjoyed the previous episode. The results are what you'd expect: rushed, incomplete, and lacking in depth.

I'm also a bit bummed that they skipped the Climax Inference (that usual scene where Naegi recounts everything that happened in the form of a mini-caricature sequence) for this trial, but I guess I should have expected as much.

With five episodes left, I wonder how this will wrap itself up?

What's so good about Junko? To me she's like a bimbo with an attitude problem. If she wasn't speared to death, she will most likely be a victim herself down the road.

By that logic, Hifumi is just an otaku, Mondo is just an overly-masculine tough guy, and Chihiro is just a crossdresser with a complex. Just about all these characters are throwaway stereotypes that could be summed up in less than five words. But as the game goes on, it becomes clear that despite their quirks, they do have plenty of heart and drama you can get behind beneath the surface.

With that in mind, I'm sure some people are kinda bummed to see a few of the characters die out before getting to know them better. I do happen to feel that way with Leon, Sayaka, and Junko, so I can speak for myself at least.

So well the most suspicious character was actually the culprit this time, pretty much everyone suspected Celes the previous episode. Perhaps they should have stressed more the Hagakure culprit theory back then, it kinda failed as a red herring since we had so little time to suspect him

Anyway it was really a strange murder system, Celes must have bet on confusing the waters rather than exposing herself at the minimum, and that didn't really pay off. And then it was quite a blunder to say the wrong thing at the wrong moment after Owada committed the same error before.

I must say I'm kinda disappointed by both Celes and Hifumi, the first for devising such plan (seriously, everyone would know Hagakure couldn't be the culprit if she made them found inside a closet unable to even remove the robo costume, I mean apart the usual clueless guys of this series), the second for being so stupid to actually believe anything that Celes told him to the point that he would kill and risk his life. Again the thought that doing that and getting away with it also meant the death of everyone else did ever cross is mind?
He wasn't just going to kill Ishimaru, he was going to kill everyone for crying out loud.

The death scene was also kinda meh... Yeah I get the joke but the Leon's death scene set the standard pretty high for me. In his case it was flamboyant but also absolutely possible, realistic and painful. It was something I could relate to and shiver in front of it. It was cruel and grotesque and perfectly executed. With Mondo's and Celes' death however it felt like watching a cartoon, just like an episode from Tom & Jerry and you know, you can only laugh at that.

The 16th student has to work with Monokuma in some way else he couldn't have remained hidden for so long. But I wonder if the one we saw was really the 16th student. I'm intrigued by the fact we clearly see his figure with the mask and all. They could have used a shadow instead like they always did for the "culprit" of every crime.
The mask just doesn't make much sense unless it's covering a face that we have already seen. So what if that was actually Kirigiri? If you think about it Kirigiri knew that Naegi would go there.

Remote controlled robot in an anime that doesn't adhere to realism too much.

Monokuma is lying. In Episode 3 Celes asked why there are 16 stands in the "courtroom" and he answered that there was no particular meaning to it. No particular meaning my ass.

Also someone who reserves to himself the faculty to add whatever rule he wishes at any given moment doesn't strike me as someone that cares about fairness too much.

Moreover it's obvious that the whole set up doesn't make sense. I wouldn't trust at all his claim that the students have the option to live inside the school forever. I don't think monokuma expects the whole thing to last for more than a few months top. He probably would resort to even harsher methods to make his victims kill each others should the need arise.

BTW the message that says that they shouldn't leave that place could be a hint that going outside could mean death. In the end are we even sure that the place they are in is the actual Kibogamine school? I wouldn't be surprised if it was a replica, I've seen that before. So they might as well be at the bottom of the ocean for what we know.

What was the attitude problem? The only thing I can think of which you might be referring to is the way she spoke up against Monobear about not wanting to play along with his game. And...if so, that isn't really an attitude problem, is it? (That unruly miscreant, Junko, failing to show the due respect and gratitude for Headmaster Monobear and the fun and educational school life that he prepared for the class. )

He wasn't just going to kill Ishimaru, he was going to kill everyone for crying out loud.
The anime cut out many things. The alternate "personality" that she revealed few episodes back, and at the end of the trial, is pretty common in the game. And it is always towards Yamada. This drastic attitude change also made her a possibility of being Genocider back then. Also, her constant verbal abuse towards Yamada released his masochistic side (towards Celes only). He practically became a slave to her, and made tea for her countless times. But the anime only shown it once, so you can't tell the depth of their relationship. Hence, it is very easy for Celes to make Yamada her accomplice.

But she failed her gamble in making him the accomplice. Largest reason beside the wiped glasses being that she requested Yamada to create a simple disguise for Hagakure. But Yamada take it too far and created Justice Robo with his Otaku brain.

I'll emphasize it one more time. Monokuma is VERY strict towards his rules and binds himself to it. Yes, he throws in additional rules at times, but he still follows them himself. For those that have loopholes, he usually let it go once and made rule adjustments thereafter.

Monokuma stated from the beginning that they are to spend the rest of their lives in the school. If they want out, they have to commit the perfect murder. This are his basic rules for the game, so it is true. The students can choose to ignore his incentives for murder and stay in there for the rest of their lives with sufficient food and living supplies. If a student manage to commit the perfect murder, he REALLY can go free.

P.S. I have noticed till now, but does any anime viewers remember that Leon's execution isn't the first?

Just giving my 2 cents, but I never thought it would be Kyouko exactly because she doesn't benefit it at all in the given context. Why would she go so far as to indicate a hidden room to Makoto just to ambush him after all, yet not killing him?
Makoto would not even find the room if it wasn't for Kyouko's indication. If by the offchance, she was afraid someone would find it at random, Kyouko would rather ransack the room instead of blantantly tell that to Makoto. Also, back I've seen this scene for the first time, it clearly indicate the masked person wasn't expecting someone to find the room, otherwise they would have not let room intact before anyone trespass the secret passage. In a way, it is even possible the said assaliant didn't know there was a secret room if we follow the logic they didn't want the students to find these documents.

Do the rules actually say that? I think it was worded differently in my subs.

BTW can someone post the list of rules already disclosed so far with the japanese text annexed for reference?

Thanx, this is actually pretty interesting. What particularly catches my attention is the fourth rule, was it even mentioned in the anime?
It seems to tell or even enforce the students to investigate the academy itself. This rule even comes before any mention of crimes, and I think it's pretty specific that the object of the investigation is the Kibogamine school itself. Perhaps this is a rule for another kind of game completely, a game against Monokuma himself.

But then again if the masked man is Monokuma or someone working for him, then it would mean that he just broke his own rule, because you'd need some kind of really messed up logic to claim that being hit with a metal bar just when you are about to find a relevant clue about the academy qualifies as being "free" to investigate it without any particular restriction.

Taking the idea used by Umineko. Monokuma cannot break his own rules, but if there is a person behind Monokuma, he/she can do whatever he/she wants with another name.

My 2 cents, I may be helping or misleading you.
