Like many of today's more prominent internet sites, YouTube was nerfed by...

1) Copyright/Trademark law, and...

2) The trend towards conglomeration.

At one time, YouTube was fantastic. Very user-friendly, great layout, and with minimal copyright/trademark concerns (so the range of content was great, as was the ability to share your own fanworks with the world). Great memories... but now a shell of its former self.

Does YouTube's old messaging system still work? From what I understand, Google+ notifies you if a message is received, but that doesn't mean you still can't send messages and you can check your inbox manually. I don't know, I haven't made an account for myself to test it.

Actually, YouTube has a lot of decent material, like university lectures, student debates, and since Khan Academy proved successful, there are a lot of similar channels promoted through their partnership program (or however its called).

Compared of course to other video hosts copyright and other oppressive laws hurt it more being more closely monitored, but that has never stopped anyone from uploading and reuploading banned material.

I don't have accounts for Facebook or Twitter or Tumblr or any of these sites, and I don't care to. I don't want to rant, but it doesn't help when you ask me to make one EVERY FREAKIN' DAY. With the way things are going, I'm sure it'll eventually come to a point where I won't be able to even use my account unless I have a Google+ one.
I don't have a Failbook account either and certainly won't make one, and still much less I'll make an account for the Google cancer version of Failbook.

This would irk me more if I had actually commented on videos, but as the comments were pretty much garbage most of the time, I generally ignore them.

It's just one of the changes that are ruining YouTube ever more, and as usual, Google doesn't give the tiniest damn about what its users think or want, or about their privacy.
What is bothering me much more is that're turning more and more into extreme copyright nazis. Another nasty change is that the video information below the video, which often contains important informations urls related to the video, is now discarded when the video ends. You'll have to reload the page to make it come back. That annoys me to no end.

If you're talking about how it switches to the Share tab once the video's complete, all you need to do is click the About tab once more. Still annoying, though, I'll give you that.

It seems that YouTube private messaging has ended.

The layout seems easy enough to figure out where things are. I did notice one glitch while watching a video. Let's say that in the middle of a video you want to watch it again from the start. If you move the slider past the start of the video, the slider will follow your mouse when you move it. Easy to fix and nothing too serious.

EDIT: It seems the glitch went away.
