Exclamation AnimeSuki Choice Awards 2013 Winners

Winners of the 2013 AnimeSuki Choice Awards!

This year we had 97 voters in the Voting Phase, which is a sizeable increase from the measly 74 we mustered last year so thanks to everyone for participating.

As always, huge thanks to felix for helping me organize this year's Awards. He was responsible for handling the counting system as well as all 21 banners. Thanks also to Dr. Casey, Reckoner, Fahd, Sackett, Kanon, SeijiSensei, Triple_R, MisaoFan and Blue-kun for their help and weighing in their thoughts and opinions. And finally, big thanks to ices for introducing the convenient Voting Helper for this year.

Feel free to add any discussion, but please try to keep it friendly and refrain from flaming winners that you didn't support. If you have any thoughts on how to improve the Awards then we'd be happy to know.

Interesting how close the top votes are for best drama and best male lead.

And I think it's about time for me to pick up Nagi no Asukara

This is the best news. It is a sizable increase.

I feel a bit badly for Little Busters! It came so close in two different categories.

But in any event, congrats to all the winners.

Wow Shinsekai Yori raped almost every category. Sad that otherwise obvious awards like Best TV Series fell to it. Makes me think like voters overcompensated for the fact SSY had shit sales.

Many of the winners are on the obvious side for those who have seen them and know how good they are. I bet my friend (who only watched a bunch of episodes of SSY before he got freaked out by the BL and turned off by its “quality” animation and stopped watching) will shake his head so hard if he sees Shin Sekai Yori wins this many categories .

On another note, I’m both surprised and glad that my personal favorite 8-man Hikigaya won the “Best Male Lead”. I thought My Teenage Romantic Comedy SNAFU is an underrated anime and many people didn’t see it (like Zetsuen no Tempest). I expected Hachiman to lose like Fuwa Aika (from Zetsuen) since both their series are not that popular, but he actually pulled it off against the odds . I’m also glad that Hunter x Hunter is still going strong for such a long series (losing only one vote from the winner) thanks in no small part to its solid plot and overall story.

Sad that HxH didn't win. Probably it's last chance to be in this Choice Awards.

Yeah, Shinsekai Yori won most of the categories. I haven't seen it though, so I can't comment further on that.

Not surprising Hikigaya won. That guy is deep intelligent and basically carries the whole show almost by himself. Though I went with Joseph Joestar, since I like him better.

Yeah, H x H will win squat when it's up for the main categories next year so it's a shame that it missed by one vote on its one chance for a little recognition. But SSY was the next best show this year after H x H, so at least there's that.

Almost everything I voted for won this year, of course since I mainly voted for Shin Sekai Yori that's not a surprise.

And of course I am biased but I think it deserved the recognition it received here.

The price of the format, without weighted voting a quality popular anime can easy out-muscle genre favorites with less exposure.

It makes me glad that Shinsekai yori managed to win so much, considering it's usually the blockbuster of the year that takes all the awards like Madoka, Steins and Fate/Zero during these last years (though Chihayafuru won it last year). It's such a fantastic series and unlike anything else I've seen. Sad that Kyousogiga didn't win anything though, it was my second favorite this year.

I'm happy Chihayafuru won drama. It was one of the best anime from last year, it needed to win something.

A shame Hunter x Hunter didn't win. It was its last chance to win anything in these awards. I know plenty of people will never bother watching it because it's shounen or because "it's too long".

Yeah, they sadly never stood any chance. I wish Joseph had won best male lead at least...

I'm probably going to watch it sometime during the year. I have held off since I don't like to follow long shows. And especially not long shonen shows. But I'm definitely going to watch it when it has finished (it is ending this year isn't it?). Hopefully more people will do so but I doubt it.

Having rewatched the intriguing and well-made Gatchaman Crowds over the past few days, I'm sad it had almost no influence over this year's voting.

I voted for Shinsekai Yori in a number of categories, though I still think it is a science-fiction story rather than a fantasy. My fantasy choice was the brilliant Uchouten Kazoku which got hardly any notice here. I don't consider SSY much of a mystery either, since most of the key plot points are discussed as early as episode four.

I'm more surprised that Kill la Kill didn't win Best Ongoing Series by a wide margin. I looked at the description for Nagi no Asakura at Wikipedia and thought it sounded possibly interesting but hardly as innovative as Kill la Kill.

Well, I wasn't going to agree with the majority of the winners considering my weird as heck taste, but it's still pretty disappointing to see Tempest's soundtrack so low there. I guess not a lot of people stuck with the show, but Oshima's score was just amazing and I'm hard pressed to find another recent show where I feel that the composer and the show formed such a perfect match.

Oh well! There's always more next year. I'm definitely happy about NagiAsu getting the best ongoing show, though!

Sad that Sakurasou didn't win a thing =(

But otherwise not too shaby. Though is Nagi no Asukara really that good? I saw 1st episode and can't say I was impressed.

A lot of NnA viewers feel that it gets significantly better around Episode 4/5 or so of the first season.

I myself voted for Kill La Kill in Best Ongoing, largely for the "innovative" edge that SeijiSensei mentioned, but I'm not upset at Nagi no Asukara winning here. Nagi no Asukara is a pretty good well-written show.
