One novel I see little mention of but which I would like to see animated is Tsukumodo Antique Shop. The closest comparison I can think of would be Dantalian no Shoka... sort of.

I would love to see it get a tasteful, yet dark and engaging treatment like Dantalian did, though.... Not sure of a good studio for this, though. Maybe Madhouse? It would be interesting to see a really well written adaptation for this that veered away from an obvious episodic narrative and somehow wove an engaging story that came across as a single organism, somehow....

****

A manga I would love to see get an adaptation would be Iris Zero.

This is one of my favorite currently running mangas - interesting characters, interesting slightly futuristic setting, and really engaging story arcs in my opinion. This could be a tough one though - I would like a studio like KyoAni or Brains Base to do a careful, loving adaptation for this. This one would benefit from faithfulness to the storyline, I think.

The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan

Oh wait, we are getting that.

But by who. and will the original cast still be in it...and will they get up to places beyond the current run of the normal anime series (past events from the Disappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi)?

Now that the author of Sekai no Senki (Banner of the Stars) has come out of wherever he came out of to push a new novel, how about we get an adaptation of that? Ehhh? The material that hasn't been animated has everything the previous material had when it warranted animation, and some interesting new events have occurred. Though perhaps an additional novel needs to drop for such a consideration, so maybe another eight years?

Crest/Banner of the Stars is, I suppose it's safe to say that it's my all-time favorite series. Even after all these years there hasn't been a series I've loved more than that one.

Zaregoto by SHAFT directed by Oishi Tatsuya.

Nisio's first and finest series needs to be animated, even if some people think it's not feasible with the unreliable narrator. Best SHAFT director as well if he ever gets to finish Kizu....

Hell yes. Let's also hope SHAFT has a budget and just tells a story instead of giving jump cut porn.

Also, Umineko and Tsukihime. Seems right up the alley of Production I.G or Madhouse.

In my opinion, Planetarian works best as a VN format and I absolutely don't see how it can be handled as an anime. I'm sure it's possible, but it's too risky for my taste.
And, people also said the same thing about Little Busters

And I dropped LB after the first arc. I never played the VN; I just thought the adaptation was boring and uncoordinated. Glad to know people thought this, because it's very true. I learned something thanks.

I'd love to see Piece - Kanojo no Kioku adapted, though for now I'd be more than happy to settle for completed scanlations...

I know it's incredibly unlikely that any of these three stories will be animated one day, but it would definitely make my day. Hell, it made my day when I heard that "Akame ga Kiru" was being animated, so super psyche to see that be released.

Ōoku: The Inner Chambers

It's an ongoing manga series with incredible pedigree. Its accolades include:
  • The Excellence Prize at the 2006 Japan Media Arts Festival
  • A special prize at the Japanese Association of Feminist Science Fiction
  • It was nominated three times for the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize, and finally won the Grand Prize in April 2009.

The manga is a fascinating re-imagination of a Tokugawa Japan that had been ravaged by a mysterious disease that killed off vast swathes of the country's men. As a result, Japan became a matriarchal society, ruled by a female Shogun who routinely adopts a masculine name to keep up appearances.

The few men who were left alive effectively became highly prized studs, with the most handsome and cultivated among them sent to the Shogun's Inner Chambers to become a part of her harem.

The manga's nine volumes have already been translated and published in English by Viz Media.

The story not just traces the intricate backroom politics of the Shogun's court and Inner Chambers, but also stories of extraordinary commoners who managed to survive or rise to power through wit or circumstance. It's very obvious throughout the series that a lot of research had been done to give its alternative history a great deal of authenticity.

Spanning as it does several decades of Japanese history, the manga features a revolving cast of characters. But one character in particular stands out: She's the feminised version of Tokugawa Yoshimune, who, in real-life, was reputedly the greatest of the Tokugawa shoguns after Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the dynasty.

To give you an idea, Ōoku's Yoshimune brings to mind complex female characters like Princess Mononoke's Lady Eboshi or even Black Lagoon's Balalaika.

The manga is set to be adapted into a drama series, following a live-action movie adaptation of the first volume in 2010.

Totally agree about Heavy Object and the A Simple Series. Haven't read the other two, though.

Unemployed and reincarnated - I swear I'll do better in the alternate world
(story of an obese, 34 year old man who lives with his parents, never held a job in his life, and leech off as a NEET.
Parents die, but he doesn't even attend their funeral. His siblings beat him and kick him out of the house.
Without a way to survive, he is distraught and wishes for a second life. He does one final good will at the end of his life though, saving three teenagers from a car wreck, and dies in the process.
He is reborn as an infant in a fantasy world to a young couple in the countryside, but retaining all the memories of his past life since the moment of birth. Using his knowledge, he grows to become a boy prodigy mage)

Despite the humorous title, it's actually a thoroughly developed fantasy novel.
You'd expect more self-insertion, but surprisingly the story is more of a family-driven one, filled with regrets and repents.

??

YMK was a pretty good VN (at least the 2 side routes) so I don't know why you want to do it disservice with hentai OVAs.

YMK had one of the most cruel bully routes (anyone remember a certain Shigofumi episode?) whilst another route portrayed what happens when two people fools around too much (before you mention it, no it's not as stupid School Days).
