Because then they couldn't have dropped all the info about the special train that wasn't on the timetable, and there'd have been no action sequence!

Well, this is no Library Wars, but I still enjoyed it almost in spite of the ridiculous fanservicey bits. Hopefully they've got that out of the way now. There was probably more service aimed at railway enthusiasts than boobage.

I did find the whole steam train segment odd they were using such small shovels. Normally when I've seen footage of steam trains they're using great big shovels to shove the coal on. Maybe this is a Japanese thing.

All in all it's possibly the most trainspottery anime I've seen since "Tetsuko no Tabi".

Speaking of possible train porn, isn't me or Haruka's pair of train nose are the main focus on the first episode?

I had a negative reaction to trains, it just seems like more of that being different just for the sake of being different. We'll see

This show could have been done with anything instead of trains

So for once the kind big boobs girl is the MC's love interest over the violent tsundere.

Trains are a big deal in Japan. The trainspotting/model train community is one of the largest groups of fandom around. Thus, trains in this show are as much of a major source of fanservice as the bouncing boobs.

It is a very specific market, but it is a market that is rather large. If they can make the show work well, there would be good money to be made.

yea, train fandom is big in Japan.
Often times in other animes where a character takes a train, but the series doesn't really make it a point where they live, there's blog posts from train enthusiast tracking down which town/area and station the character actually lives from the look of the train station and train they get off.

As for the episode itself, seems very low budget.
I'm not sure if this Public Security training is suppose to be something that actually exists.
Especially since we went thru a really fast training sequence for them to be official employees trainees, but they still seem high school age, yet were handed guns, so I don't know if this is an actual thing or not.

The long haired girl seems to be an ojou-sama.
The man-hating girl probably got molested and from that, just hates all men.
MC is pretty bland. Just a regular blank slate.

Episode has one of my pet peeve plot devices though.
The totally illogcal criminals that purse snatch in public in open view, who just escalates a situation by randomly pulling a knife or gun moments later. Its just "criminals for the sake of having criminals" throw-in that just makes no sense in actual situations.

I just get annoyed by it, and the thing with how apparently there's always a child molester waiting in an alleyway near every school just in case the plot needs him.

Why didn't they call the security guys of the next station to help them???!! That was the question that came in my mind.

They sure were some tiny shovels:

i like the first eps but it is ridiculously over dramatise. hopefully it is more focus of the security aspect like beating up chikan and theft than train.

Episode 1 impressions:
  • A lot more action than I expected
  • The red headed girl's character annoys me. She's a bit too antagonistic to the mc right now. I'm guessing this will continue until her character gets development
  • Train trivia....not sure who the target audience is suppose to be
  • So they were suppose to let those robbers go, screw that director.

Other than that, this episode was a bit boring. Will give next episode a shot to see where this series is headed.

Hinted? I'd say that it was more like being hit on the head with a large shovel

Yes. I just wanted to get shovels in the sentence somewhere :-p

Overall that was a rather interesting episode. I've lived for years on a flat overlooking a large train depot so trains are something very dear to me which makes that particular aspect of the show particularly enjoyable. Add to that the fact that the characters actually managed to come around as competent and interesting with some minor quirks instead of the walking clichés I'm usually expecting from this kinds of shows and I can say that it's looking like a keeper for me. I just hope they tone down those fanservicy bits. That running sequence in particular just felt painful to watch... :-\

For some reason, I like this series, based on EP1... I don't know why myself, but somehow I liked it. I don't know the names of the charcters yet though, but I had the impression that:
  • Muscular Guy: The one who has the most physical strengh and endurance.
  • Red-headed Girl: Most agile and skilled (combat-wise) of the group, escpacially when it comes to guns.
  • Clumsy Girl: Living Database, seems to have photographic memory.
  • Short Guy: Outstanding judgement and observation skills.

Judging from this, the short guy may become the leader of the group... I may be wrong though...

I'm not one of those "Free market is God and should never be interfered with" people, but if some crown corporation was wasting money by keeping obsolete steam trains in operation just so potential employees could show they have some outdated skill that has no relevance to modern rail operations I think I might have some issues with that. Get a modern training program guys.

Also, fifty rounds a year for training? Perhaps there are police officers in the world who shoot that infrequently, but if there are they're not police officers whose marksmanship I'd have much confidence in!
