I didn't get that his friend was gay at all, just effeminate. And effeminate does not equate to gay.

I did not laugh as much in ep 2 as I did in ep 1. Even so, it was an excellent ep. This series really mines the shoujo tropes, and I actually appreciate that Sakura is not the only one who sees things that are ridiculous but also does not quite always see things as ridiculous as they are - she and most every character (except for the insensitive opera singing delinquint) all have their blind spots.

This works for me quite well so far. And actually it smacks of reality very strongly in many ways, but feels as if it is birthed from an author who really loves everything about their characters and is even able to present their weaknesses in a way that does not come off as nasty or mean spirited. I definitely appreciate that. ^^

Mikoshiba: NOTICE ME NOTICE ME NOTICE ME KOUHAI NOTICE ME NOTICE ME NOTICE ME!!*goes tsundere* Not like I asked you to notice me or anything

I think Mikoshiba just became my favorite character out of this.

If that's seriously Sawashiro singing then DAMN what is she doing in anime? Girlfriend should be singing classical music!

Actualy it didn't sound much like her... though again I never heard her sing this kind of music in first place.

Tsubaki Izumi is also the mangaka of Oresama Teacher, a currently weekly shoujo manga.

To say this series isn't shoujo at all isn't giving her enough credit - it definitely captures shoujo clichés (and the artstyle) well and blurs the demographic boundaries because she has enough experience in the shoujo demographic to make fun of it.

Shoujo is not a genre, gangan online is a shounen demographic magazine so it's a shounen series. Not like that means much though because again, shoujo, shounen, seinen, josei, etc are not genres.

Also not sure why the mangaka's other works have to do with this one.

I don't think I can even describe Mikorin as tsundere or deretsun. He's like a kettle that is so hot that he'll eventually run out of steam in a spectacular way.

Or a gorgeous-looking cactus.

Meanwhile, Yuzuki. Damn, she stole every scene.

If you ascribe to a school of literary criticism that ISN'T New Criticism, then it's pretty important I think, as it informs that the writer has ongoing experience with a series that plays all the shoujo stylings straight... enough that she can make fun of them in this one.

Works in the same demographic tend to overlap in style and usage of certain tropes.

Just because they're not descriptive terms set in stone like real genres doesn't mean the words carry no connotation about the nature of the work.

If literary demographics carried no connotation of a specific style, then you wouldn't have people saying that this show is parodying shoujo manga, even with no knowledge of the mangaka's background. How could you parody manga published for a certain demographic if works in that demographic have nothing in common?

Seo's funny. This could be a strong contender for best comedy of the season for me now.

New characters are always interesting.
Mikoto makes an appearance.
I like his hair color, but his personality is special ^^"
Well, at least he made things even more fun.
So he pretends to be a player, but is actually shy.
Sakura tried her best again.
Havin to deal with Mikoto didn't make things easier..
A new female character, Yuzuki, showed her personality as well.
She and Mikoto should totally switch roles LOL
I like both of them though! ^^
At least Nozaki managed to experience something different.

I don't see anything on the credit

I think it's someone else doing the singing voice for Yuzuki. But damn, she's so funny because she acted like a jerkass from the outside, and a singing goddess on the inside!

Still, it sucks that both Nozoki-kun and Sakura didn't blackmail her...
