Arrow Suggest Mechas and Old School Anime for Me

I'm a big fan of mechas, especially--but not exclusively--old school mechas.

I've already scene the fansubbed Getter Robo and God Mars, but am always looking for something else.

Nothing with angst, and anything with unintentional hilarity is also appreciated.

Thanks for taking the time.

Did you get the Shin Getter Robo 2004 OAV?
What about Grandizer - Getter Robo G - Great Mazinger Kessen! Daikaijou?

Between your title and your post it is hard to tell if "old school" is just mecha or what. If not just mecha, latch onto Devilman TV for sure. It goes back to 1973 and is definitely good for a laugh.

Don't know much about old school, but some that I enjoyed are...
Full Metal Panic!,
Rahxephon,
Blue Gender,
Gundam Seed and Wing (you might like others though, but I havent seen them),
Macross Zero (and probably all other Macross but i havent seen them yet)

I've seen both, yes.

SDF Macross (oldschool yet fluid animation)
Victory gundam (leaves you depressed for days)
Gundam MS 08th team (12 ep ova - most realistic Gundam series)
Gasaraki (A lowkey NGA type series but completely different)
Tekkaman Blade (Oldschool Battle Suit)

GaoGaiGar/GaoGaiGar Final
Shin Getter Robo 2004
Godannar
Tobikage
Machine Robo Rescue
Zambot3 (not sure if it's ever been subbed or not)
Ideon (again, not sure if it's been subbed or not)

Original Gundam's great, but its the quintessential teenage angst mecha show which you said you didn't like. So I'll recommend Tomino's next show, Ideon. Great old school giant robot show with a very interesting and unique story. And very little angst at all, our heroes are happy to pilot the Ideon with few exceptions. Hasn't been subbed though, you'll have to watch it raw.

I second that. "Ideon" is a good anime to watch as Tomino's precursor to the Gundam series. I also recommend "Zambot3" as well.

Though this is relatively new (circa 1989), Nagano Mamoru's "Five Star Stories" is a great - the relationship between "Master" and "Fatimas" are heart warming... But before you watch this, go watch "Heavy Metal L-Gaim," an anime show done by both Nagano Mamoru and Tomino Yoshiyuki that aired a year before "Z Gundam."
