My fave mangakas usually impresses me with just one of their works.
Minekura Kazuya - Light BL + quote-worthy speeches from Saiyuki Reload makes her a winner in my books Urasawa Naoki - Anime adaptation of Monster makes this works of his come alive. Hirano Kouta - Hellsing. CLAMP - Chobits gave me plenty to think about. Never read CCS in manga format, but was charmed by the anime adaptation, which I never manage to complete. |

Yuiga Satoru (E's, Ras Meridian)- She has decent art and so so story telling skil. but the way she depicts her characters is just amazing. Volume 13 of E's especially puts me at awe. Everything is just believable and natural. The transition of the characters are also are also flawless, even Kai's personality swap was done without any awkwardness. I highly recommend reading through E's if you happen to be a character-centric reader.

Wow, some really great suggestions here. A few I haven't seen mentioned:
Kouga Yun - Loveless; Earthian, though I've only read Loveless. I love the character designs, though sometimes the panels can be hard to follow. Matsushita Yoko - Yami no Matsuei. You see my bias -- beautiful men. It's a shame that she never finished this series, and as far as I know hasn't done anything else. There's some fun stuff in the manga that didn't make it into the series. Nitta Youka - Haru wo Daiteita, When a Man Loves a Man. I hope she can soon get her legal problems worked out, so she can draw more gorgeous men for me to drool over. To add to one already mentioned: Minekura Kazuya - Saiyuki, Wild Adapter, Bus Gamer, (Araiso Private High School Student Council) Executive Committee . OMG she draws such beautiful boys, no, men. She does action sequences really well. I'd like to see more of Bus Gamer, which I thought had an intriguing premise, and neatly developing relationships between the three leads. I also wanted to see where she was going with the female cop. And a criticism: Takaya Natsuki - I loved the artwork in Fruits Basket, and am amazed by the complexity of some of the layouts, in particular one phone conversation between Shigure and Kureno on top of flashbacks of actions relating to their conversation. Did anyone else think that her style flattened and the characters started to look more and more like each other? Volume 23 Tohru looked maybe even younger than volume 1 Tohru, when she should have aged about two years. By the end of the series, I had trouble telling Shigure from Kureno from Kazuma from Katsuya Honda. |
