I played the Alto Sax for about 5 years... I hated marching band and was a delinquent when it came to practicing so I ended up quitting the end of my Sophomore year.

Nice to see other people with a great love for drums! ^_^
I have been playing for around 6 years now, and I'm in a rock band!! We are about 4 years old, and we have toured australia twice now and asia is next on the list!
It's so exciting!
Is anyone else here in a band?

I play the drums, bass and the keyboards. I'm a keyboardist in my main band, though. I also know how to use the flute.

Well, I was in band and played percussion, and in the early class that I was in, I was the ONLY percussionist, so naturally, I had to learn how to play a lot of those instruments. I mainly played the bells and the chimes, but occasionally, I played snare and base drum, triangle, and crash cymbals. I swear, those crash cymbals were SO hard to use. They were huge. > <

Other than percussion instruments, I play a bit of the piano. I'm still kinda learning, though.

Yay for percussion! I played percussion from 5th grade onwards, and even majored in Music Performance: Percussion for 2 and a half years of college. I specialized in marimba and timpani (LOVE orchestra settings). I hear you on crash cymbals, I hated playing them in marches since my arms would get so tired! It doesn't help that the further in the piece you go, the louder you usually are supposed to get

Other than that, I'ved played classical piano since I was 5...so that makes it 16 years now. Still minoring in music, but I switched back to piano.

Oh, and if it counts, I played violin from 7th-10th grade, BLEH I hate it. Should've tried cello instead.

I play Bass Guitar and Guitar.

I started playing bass at the beginning of this year and the guitar in March. So, I've been dividing my time with each. But I mainly play bass.

violin and viola...the viola only because its essentially a big violin and has less competition when it comes to orchestra

I played the flute for two years and the acoustic guitar for two years. That was about four years ago and I haven't touched a musical instrument since.

Does anyone here play the piano?

Ok, well I stopped playing the piano for around 2 years, and just re-started. The problem is, I have this so called "piano disease," where if I stop playing for an extended amount of time, my muscle memory will detoriate exponentially faster than others. Meaning the pieces I once used to play swiftly, I cannot play at all. So I was wondering, what do you guys do to increase finger dexterity and speed? I just re-started Czerny's School of Velocity, and the pre-prepatory book for it also formerly known as: Czerny's 30 Technical Studies. As well as using Czerny, I used Hanon and I am currently up to the remedial practice of no.22ish. The problem is that I really want to increase my finger speed and accuracy right back where it was in 2 years.
The pieces I used to play for competitions were:
Liberstraum by Franz Liszt
Rondo Alla Turca by Mozart
Moonlight Movement 2 and 3 by Beethoven
Pathetique by Beethoven
Fantasie Impromptu by Chopin
Ballade no. 1 by Chopin
Etude op. 10 no. 1 by Chopin
La Campanella (Halfway, couldn't go anymore, piano teacher said my finger speed need to break some limitations before I could play this) by Franz Liszt.

Can you guys tell me what I should do, to increase finger speed over a short - scale of time? By the way, don't tell me scales -_-, I have done scales for 11 years straight 3 hours each day. Is there any other technical difficulties that I need to try before attempting to go at these songs again.
Current piece I am practicing: Chopin Ballade no.2

Oh, I love playing the piano. I learn by ear, I know how to read sheet music and all, btu I learn to play faster by playing by ear.

Let's see, to increase finger speed an accuracy, I hate to say it, but you may have to start on the scales again, at least until you're more comfortable with the piano again. After you feel comfortable, play simplified versions of the songs you used to play, and progress from there, your speed should come back in about a few days. Although the timespan varies depending on how often you practice.

I think there was a thread like this i replyed there, i am a professional piano player so i learned how to play it at the age of six, just when a half month passed i knew how to play moonlight, and you must start scale again and here's one more thing you can do it's what i did before to gain speed, Accented Exercises are the secret... through the use of accented exercises, I have developed the ability to play lightening fast passages while maintaining precise control over EVERY NOTE THAT I PLAY."

example: only the 1st and 5th fingers are accented, the pinky and the big finger

all 5 fingers get accented when you gain speed for the first two, all fingers
