Interesting question..European countries usually are luckier than the asian countries where the animes are followed if there are any interested party because of availability (which may differ according to the location)..Sadly that cannot be said for most of the countries in Asia..China, S.Korea and Malayasia are the only exception..I know some Philipino's also follows the anime genre but I believe most of them that are acquainted with anime live in US..So the knowledge of animation goes as far as the broadcasting of Local TV Netwroks in the various countries in Asia..

i dont know how hong kong came into the anime world, but manga-kas are of course mostly japanese, and most animators have become koreans. Which explains the giant anime centers being there. US gets everything the world has, so its also a nice place to get anime... expensive tho. I dont know much about european anime, someone educate me.

We get shit, I live in Belgium and all we get is the overhyped animes or fad-animes.
Example pokémon, digimon, beyblade and to top it all they dub it...in Dutch! Just awful. Almost every main character gets the same voice-actor. I do know a lot of people that watch fansubs and good anime is pretty popular around here, they just don't show it on TV. Also Cartoon Network only airs till 21:00 so no anime there too. We are getting a lot more DVD's though. Edit: Oh and Blue*Dragon, it is "ultimate", not "ultimatie" or whatever. No offense but you're making Dutch people sound like horrible English-speaking pirates. |

I guess sometimes too many spelling errors ticks people off >.>
The only nice anime aired in Belgium/Netherlands was Rurouni Kenshin TV >.> And in the 1990 Robotech (Macross) and not dubbed mind you, only subtitled ![]() And yeah for our anime/manga needs we need to import from the UK/USA/Japan. (Customs are evil and waiting for them to (sometimes even ever) appear on mainland Europe takes too long...) (You can also buy some from Germany and France, but I don't like to read the german and french subtitles/translated anime/manga from Germany and France) And in Belgium there is also Archonia the online manga and anime store, but they can't get everything and also 40-50% translated in french. (But still a nice supply)

In scandinavia The manga is one of the slowest to have ever arrived. Dragonball Z just came to Denmark Last winter. DBZ!! i mean....how old aren´t those series. And i´m speaking Pocket books here. Not animé. only NOW in scandinavia are there more animations coming in. Like Spirited away(good story there) and i saw the pocket book of Imortal blade (never read or seen it before). Also the Naruto manga comes like... i think it was once every month in a few cities here in sweden.
Only a 100 copies or so in each store I am surprised though. I didn´t know untill a year ago that Robotech was actually Macross. No one vere explained. And also they never released more than a few episodes ON tape. I can remember i watched them when i was very young. The first episodes of Robotech. Why did the amricans name it Robottech???? why not just Macross? bad comersial name or something? Or just to make people like me confused and make sure we never can see any more episodes again?

i dont know how old and long DB is since i never followed it. but about 10~11 yrs ago i picked up a DB manga at korea and read gohan beat that one cell guy or somehting. and picked up GB GT and the last one i remember reading back then was when gohan's kid or something fuses with trunk or his kid. I asked my DB fan friends about that when i came here to america, and none of them have gone tat far into the story. Im guessing its fast over there. *sigh* and cheap.... why did i move here? anyways, btw: y do u guys worry so much about spelling? Its only an online forum, no ones gonna grade you. Some people just dont care since its not like an essay. i dont care.. haha, as long as ppl know wat im saying.

"Super Dimension Fortress Macross"
"Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross" "Genesis Climber Mospeada" Those three separate tv series, were combined to make Robotech. And there were many terminologies, name changes and differences for that one American version >.> (Changed/Altered during translation into English and became Robotech.) The timeline is even more confusing because Robotech (US) has a completely different timeline compaired to Macross. Robotech therefore can't really be accepted into the Macross universe, although Robotech: The Macross Saga can be due to less effects of (bad/different) translations. ( @_@) Yeah manga/anime seeps slowly into mainland Europe and even slower in poorer countries, that has other worries.

You can't generalize the marketing/distribution of the manga/anime in Europe, there is too much difference between the different countries.
Manga Maniac said that in Scandinavia or Denmark it's hard to find, and I heard that it's difficult too in England, but Italy and Spain have a pretty descent amount of manga even if I don't know for the anime, Germany have many series of manga and anime and France is the 2nd country which reads the most manga in the world and have a great amount of anime too (for the anime more or less the same as in the US but less than Korea I think). So that depend, there is country in Europe where people don't know about manga and anime and some other where you can find them anywhere... |

Yeah, but generalisation is so easy! :3 Sorry!
But to me having french and german translated available ish also no anime/manga ( ._.) I also said something little about the Germany and France a bit up, but too little to let you know and such that they get a good distribution of it. But the main thing is, it's expensive ![]() Even if you import it from a neighbouring country. EDIT; Didn't want a new reply already; I can read french and chinese. And I occasionally visit Paris and the "chinatowns" there >.> Still 20~25 euro for a DVD and 10~20 euro for a manga book gets expensive if you wanna/gonna buy a lot ![]() *Need to find more discount shops*

we're all gonna have to live with wat we have. Learn a foreign language such as French, Mandarin, Korean, or Japanese. Pick the one thats the easiest, and have manga imported to you. I dont think its THAT expensive. Of course getting it from America is. Wait? isnt everything in france expensive? my friend who used to live in france said they moved because everything was so expensive. but this was about 10 yrs ago and dont know if its still like that.

LOL..great advice Zoro..Which order should I start?..The easiest should be the French, then Japanese and then Korean..Although I speak a little a Japanese..ex. Arigato, anosa...Now about 9998 more vocabulary and I will be set to tackle a Manga..hehe..I dont think I will ever be able to speak Chinese for it being one of the most difficult language in the planet..

besides french, out of the 3 languages: CHINESE IS THE EASIEST IF YOU KNOW ENGLISH. surprised? The grammar structure of Chinese and English is MUCH more similar than tat of Japanese or Korean. And since learning Chinese is VERY helpful in knowing Kanji and Hanmun (the korean kanji i guess) chinese would be a better 1st choice. Chinese ppl on average learn english faster than japanese and koreans because of this.

In the old forum there was a thread about the price of the manga in the different countries and one thing is clear, the manga in the US are much more expensive than in Europe.
In France the price of a manga is about 6~9$ and in Spain it's something like 4~6$, but it's in Asian that the price are the cheapest, without even speaking of the Japan where a magazine of 500 pages like Shonen Jump cost 1~2$. The Japanese read them in the subway or in the train and throw them when they have finished ^^ |
