Hmmm... very insightful stuff. I never really considered the implications of our U.S. laws for entertainment as well as the motives for large chains of retailers. This is all very true, and I suppose that they are the major setback for KGNE and any other similar game. But it's true that you don't NEED a chain like Walmart to put it on the shelf... you can just buy the games online, which is where most people would hear of them in the first place.

I suppose that the bishoujo industry is something America just isn't ready for yet... or at least the people in the positions of power who feel they must "preserve the moral fabric" or something like that. I can see their arguments but I believe it is just a case of taboo. Personally, I was originally against bishoujo games for the same reasons, but really the only way to get past the taboo is to try it out and see the benefits to these games.

...this will be a tough battle to win. But, as I said before, I'll remain steadfast in my efforts as long as I think there can be a way.

Well, I don't see any US laws that would make such a game illegal or anything, unless there was some new law that popped up like 2 days ago

Actually, it would fall under the same act that protects against digital deplictions of child pornography, so if they forced the issue, I'm sure it could easily be outlawed.

This country is about freedoms until you encroach on other people's idea of freedom, then it's about conforming. Meh, such is the paradox that is America.

Actually, in case you didn't know, this was illegal a few years ago, but it has been called legal in the USA unless real children have been used for the game/manga or anything that isn't real.
So it's perfectly legal.
The only reason it might cause problems is that some stores wouldn't want to sell it, but you could still buy them from the internet, since they're perfectly legal

Uh, are you sure about that? The last statute change that I saw to this law was that they added the ammendment that digitial deplictions will fall under the same jurisdiction.

Well then I wonder why sites like 4chan and 5chan have/had boards that would be considered illegal even though they're located in the US.

The same reasons as to places like Asuki and BoxTorrents can get away with it, most of the time

Hence the paradox of the US :P

Do you know any law that would forbid these?
I've heard that these were made legals some while back as long they didn't involve real underages children.
The laws haven't changed and these sites are following the anti child porn law, since this isn't considered child porn.

Edit : After a while for searching for you here is 1 link that might interest you :

They even limit the movies that they sell based upon a criteria similar to this. It's a matter of image, would you carry a game that deplicts someone obviously under 18 getting raped? Would you carry a game that deplicts someone under 18 having sex? This is an image that many consumer shoppers will not allow and will vocally oppose it.

Remember back in the days of the SegaCD, you remember that one game that brought the existence of the ESRB into our lives? Yea, Night Trap...the worst freaking game ever also was the sole force in creating a ratings board for video games. Also, the ESRB has a rating for Adult titles that carry the AO tag, how many games on the market do you see with the AO tag?

We're stuck between a rock and a hard place really...we've got so many uptight people in positions to rock a boat if something doesn't go their way. This limits our abilities to get something that another person might find offensive. The lolita-concept is the least of the worries in most english-released ero's...why do you think that such a popular ero like Kana doesn't sell on American shelves? Because it also carries a theme of incest...it's a taboo subject and taboos don't sell on American shelves, sadly. And it's because of this that we find it hard to get a steady source of ero's localized. The market is too thin and too shakey for a company to invest without the proper incentives, and thus why it would be more powerful to have a large group suggest titles that are thought to be complex and time consuming, otherwise we may never get the chance to see it. I would expect that if KGNE's anime gets liscensed and released with the same exhubrance that something like Love Hina would get, I'm sure you would see a surgance in people wanting to try the game.
This is why i believe there should be somewhat of a focus on Shingetsutan Tsukihime:
While the game is violent, and contains sex, and "incest" (even though...Akiha isn't TECHNICALLY Shiki's sister...) watching the anime and reading a lot about the game made me realize it's a bit more suited for american audiences than other games are
in addition, the anime was recently licensed by Geneon, which, i believe, marks the second h-game-to-anime series to be licensed by a US company (Comic Party is the first, i believe, though i could be wrong) and the first by one of the popular companies (Bandai-Geneon-ADV-FUNimation-4Kids...i.e. the ones that get the most attention)
So, if sales go well for Tsukihime, then people will obviously want the game.
As such, i will be doing my part to "advertise" the anime and game by buying the DVDs and such
And, if Tsukihime's game gets brought stateside, then that would open the door for more ero-games (which would likely be labeled as "Dating Simulations" in the states) to be brought over.
Comic Party and To Heart are other options, as their respective manga series (and Comic Party's anime) have been brought over by "mainstream" companies (ADV has the To Heart manga, Tokyopop has the Comic Party manga, Right Stuf has the Comic Party anime, and the "extra" comic party manga is held by...either CPM or ComicsOne...)

Wow, I like the kind of response this thread is getting. This is the kind of information we all need to know instead of sitting around wondering "why" or "why not." I believe its true that as some popular games come stateside, those who want more series to be produced are encouraged to buy them so that the bishoujo industry has a chance to develop. Anyways...

1) If there are any major producers of translated bishoujo games other than G-Collections and Peach Princess that you all would like me to send them an e-mail to inquire about the Kimi game, feel free to post their name/e-mail here so that I can get on it.

2) If anybody can type japanese and would like to try their hand at talking with KGNE's producers, Age, about possibly working out production rights with stateside companies, also feel free to post.

3) If anyone has heard any news that particularly relates to KGNE or its translation, please share with us so that we can spread the knowledge around.

4) If there are any questions related to KGNE you would like to have answered, feel free to post and I will try my best to get them answered for you.

I think probably the biggest roadblock to translation besides the size and producers of KGNE is what is deemed "socially acceptable." Living in the OC (NOTHING like the show, believe me) it is very reserved and conservative. Though I myself am conservative, I think its worth a shot to at least TRY something new, and lo and behold, I tried a bishoujo/dating sim game and liked it. Our american soap operas are crappy, and even more so when compared to the artistic value of the stories found in these games and anime. I don't really know where I'm going with this, but I think it's something like "the industry needs to start somewhere so that people can get used to it and deem it socially acceptable."

Keep those posts comin! ^_^;

That's the most funny thing I've ever heard!
First : no, this isn't allowed here.
Second : repeat this sentence over and over until you understand it : there is almost no chance for such a game to be fully fan-translated, so stop talking nonsense, it's too hard to translate
I guess you'll have to search yourself ^_^
And don't forget to read the rules this time

i won't bother quoting Leviathan since his post will get deleted anyway
you're not allowed to post links to licensed stuff, or games
if you want it so bad, buy it. it's that simple
fan translations of some bishoujo games (not KGNE, but Kanon and a couple others) DO exist, however they are just patches that alter the game (you have to buy the game in otherwords) so in a way they're like mods, which is an excellent idea

Not *all* of the good animes are liscensed...take KGNE for example

Besides, software is different than video, in which software is pretty much a global thing and as such can be used on a global scale without any hardware adjustments, where-as unliscensed anime is only capable of being played on R2-decoding DVD players or Japanese television.

Besides, this is the reason we're trying to KGNE liscensed and localized, to allow us to purchase the products more efficiently and to enjoy them. Having them imported is viable, but an expensive endevour, but to get them localized would mean we'd have a more effective way to purchase them without higher costs. Personally, importing is fine with me until the titles are localized, why do you think I've imported several already?

uh huh... yeah KGNE is my fav. drama anime by far. i wouldn't mind buying the dvd.

what up w/ my previous post getting censored? fak dat. piracy is the shi-et. BT and ed2k links will continue to harbor licenced software/movies whether u like it or not.

long live suprnova.org!

anime fansubbs are supposed to be free. the game should be too! no way i'm spending $$ and embrassment of going to some hentai store to buy some game like that. ppl say that KGNE is based on a h-game, and what exactly is that like is what i'm here to find out. i believe everyone's who've gotten into the series enough to post in the forums should be interested enough to find out how KGNE came about as an anime.

If everyone were like you, then anime and game companies will become bankrupt and you'll never have any more new anime to watch or new game to play. Please grow up.

Anime fansubs are simply ways in which you'd be able to watch something that is not available in your language. Anime by itself IS NOT FREE! And NEITHER ARE GAMES! If you're too lazy to find out how to obtain this game discretely on the Internet and willing to hide behind lousy excuses, then don't whine when you can't play the game.

Well the problem is that this forum doesn't allow this, whatever you think about it, you've aggreed with the forums rules, so you shouldn't break them
