Interesting note though, the final could be a rematch.
Last time we won a final it was from Russia and we lost our group match against them. So when both The Netherlands and the Checzs will proceed, not if but when, then the odds would be in the Dutch's favour.

Yes the idea of a rematch sounds exciting, however I would start saying that the Netherlands have the advantage because of historical statistics. Everyone should know they have no influence at all. The major influence on a rematch would be the fatc that you allready know your opponents strong and weak points. This allows you to change you own strategy accordingly.

In the Czechia - Netherlands during the first round (one of the best matches this tournament imo), the Netherlands were a bit more in control during the first 60 minutes. After that they completly lost this control and gave away the game to the Czechs. Of all the teams I've seen, only the Czechs haven't played a single bad game yet. They are definitelly playing on their top abilities, being very effecient and well organised. The Netherlands are more something of "all storm towards the opponents goal and see what happens" kinda team. This usually leads to attractive matches and very offensive oriented football. The Netherlands defense is alot weaker.

Anyway, perhaps a bit too early to speculate on it allready, Czechia still has to pass Denmark tonight, GO DENMARK

No way, i totally disagree that netherlands had no chance against italy in the last european championships?!?!? did you even watch that game? The Netherlands totally dominated that game and missed 2 penalties in normal time!. It ended up 0 - 0 (i think) after extra time and only reason the italians went through was due to penalty shoot outs.

With the Czechs, i agree they've been impressive but i think they are weak at the back. Watching them, because of their natural attacking instinct they are weak against the counter attack (but then again who aren't) although they're ulyfalushi (however you spell it) is awesomely quick. However i think their biggest weakness is that they are awfully bad in the air (although with that bolf? bof? guy he is massive). I think they're goalkeeper is good though and makes up for it.

Uhm...I of course seen the match. It appears though you forgot a simple fact...Italy managed to hold of Netherlands with 10 players for 90 minutes long, yeah. If you can't score for 90 minutes long with one more player on the field then you don't deserve to win, in my opinion.

(sorry for the abusive mark ups )

Oh well the reason why Netherlands will be in the finale:
Portugal never got past the semi finales.
The host nation never got passed since 1988, so if West-Germany, Sweden, England, Netherlands can't break that curse neither can't Portugal.

Face it Portugal is doomed.

Lol, you know that kinda statistics proves nothing at all, if the netherlands wanna make it to the finals they'll have to do better then what they've been showing up to this point.

Anyway Czechia - Denmark is in progress 0 - 0 so far, first 10 minutes were for the Czechs.

After that the Danish took over, they have more ball possession but the game is a bit boring, a battle over the midfield, Danish are giving alot of bad passes too. They are going for it but it would help if they'd reach the 16 every once in a while

first half finished : danish were the boss but failed to do something with their advantage. Czechia is just defending and looking for the counter. This game needs a goal fast to become interesting...

GO DENMARK

Statistics do indeed proof nothing but they work in a favour for a team.

Oh well about Denmark-Czech Republic...well not the most entertaining match. The Danes are trying, but they fail each time.

There you have it, Czechia scores

Perfectly placed corner on the head of Jan Köller and goal. 49 minutes in the game
Czechia - Denmark : 1 - 0

about 10 minutes later : Czechia scores 2 times in a few minutes, 3-0 the danish are just filling up the time. Czechia goes to the semi's, Danish go home

Czech just pwned them, although Denmark had far more ball possession. I think the Czech are not only playing a football match but also a psychological warfare. Give them hope, destroy their hope and you win.

Or maybe I'm exaggerating with this

Oh well the semi finals are:
the best of group A vs the best of group D
Portugal - Netherlands
Czech Republic - Greece

Heh, 4/4 for me for the quarters.

Unfortunately Miss Cleo's crystal ball is too cloudy to predict how the first semi (Portugal vs Netherlands) will go. Both teams are about the same (or counter-balance) in the areas of play. Hard to say, hard to say...

For the Greeks vs the Czechs, however I will go for the Czechs. Both have the spirit and determination to win, both have confidence. Both their teamwork are pretty good. However I feel the Czechs have the edge in terms of skills and tactics. Greeks could knock off their pace with their play-acting nuisance. But in the end, I think the Greeks would not be able to clear their Czechs!

Czech Republic for the Finals!

pssst Czechslovakia doesn't exist anymore

Oh well UEFA backed up Meiers in his, according to the English, controversial descision with proof why it was a foul. The English reaction, of course, is denial.

Last i remembered France hosted the previous Euro and they won....so if there was a "curse" it would've been broken then.....

Hohoho that's what happens when Miss Cleo's crystal ball is all fouled up. Back to the Czech Republic then.

Regarding the Portugal-England match on the disallowing of Sol Campbell's goal, I could see it was a definite foul right from the slow motion replay on the TV broadcast itself. When England's player (Terry) has an arm draped right on the opposing goalkeeper when the latter jumped, that's a foul commited on the goalie. Is England becoming as bad as Italy...

I agree, it was quite disgraceful how the English media reacted. Posting his telephone number and hate mails, I've heard he's getting hate mails and for the time being he even got police protection.
The latter shocked me.

Last time France hosted an Euro was in 1984 That was the last time a host got passed the semi-final, which ironically was against Portugal.

If you're talking about '98 well, the World Cup is another thing

About one and a half hours to go before the semi's start. It's been interesting to watch all kinda specialists and commentators predict the outcome on tv and in the papers the last few days

In the Netherlands people are overflowing with confidence, now that the ban of losing a penalty shoutout has been lifted (The Netherlands had three losses in a row in penalties which kicked them out of the last three major tournaments they were at, however where finally able to win one last week), the dutch feel nothing can stop them.
Basically they're allready speculating heavilly about a rematch versus the Czechs. In an interview Advocaat said that if he played the finals against the Czechs he would definatelly replace Robben again at mid-game

There also seems to be a consesus about Portugal, just about evryone in the media around here is very impressed with their play, combine that with the home crowds and they sure seem to have a slight advantage.

Psychological warfare allready started. Portuguese coach Scolari pointed out to the referee's what common fouls made by dutch players were

Anyway, looking at the latest matches, the longer resting period for Portugal and the home advantage, I'd say it a 60% change that Portugal will advance to the finals. I'm cheering for the dutch however, because they always go for offensive football (often neglecting defense while at it) which is very attractive to see .

Basically Portugal was the boss during the first 25 minutes, with a few very good chances as a result. A goal was hanging in the air. In the 26th minute Ronaldo forces the ball into a corner and succeeds at putting the ball past Van Der Sar.

After that the game bacame a bit more balanced, good chances on both sides, but Portugal is playing extremely well orgnised and deadly : they switch from defense to offense instantly and after 3-4 passes the ball is in front of van Der Sar.

2 more noticeable moments during first half :

A goal by Van Nistelrooy gets cancelled because of offside, however if he had let the ball to seedorf, seedorf could've scored easilly without the offside taking in effect since Van Nistelrooy would be returing out of offside and wasn't participating to the play.

Figo : he must be hungry after what happened in the game versus england, anyway in the last 5 minutes he shows an awesome dribbel and places the ball on the pole.

All in all, perfect organised Portugal both offense and defense, especially a fast switch defense offense is their greatest force. The Netherlands' defense is not too good, too many undefende players too often, and offensive is average. portugal on the lead and the Dutch should be happy that it isn't 2-0 or 3-0 yet

Second half : Portugal just made the 2-0 in the 60th minute, I think it's over for Holland unless they can suddenly switch to a completely different play style.

Holland is back in the game, own goal by Andrare (sp?).

Portugal- Holland 2-1

Game over

The Netherlands were never able to get a grip on the game. Portugal controlled mostof the game had the best chances and scores three times (one time in their own goal but ).
The best team reaches the finals.
Tomorrow Czechia - Greece
