What a 2nd half, 1-1 in the space of two minutes and a missed penalty.

This means Italy must beat France in the last group game.

What I find incredulous is not how Mutu missed the penalty, but how my local TV station had their satellite signal cut off JUST before Mutu shoots the ball, and then comes back on afterwards, and that is what I call annoying.

Netherlands should be able to chew Romania.
So whoever wins between France and Italy should advance, unless Romania wins against Netherlands (Unlikely) or get a draw (likely).

Probably the best match yet in Euro 2008.

I don't know, I wouldn't rule Romania out that easily, they could surprise us and make it through.
That said, we (Italy) should have won today, but damn Toni missed too many chances. Atleast today Donadoni is not to blame since he finally had the right players in the starting lineup (De Rossi, Del Piero, Chiellini, Perrotta) unlike in the previous match.

And congrats to Holland, they're displaying some great football and surely deserving to go further and make it to the finals. If Italy gets eliminated (very, very likely) I'll be cheering for you guys.

Total Football Mk II. Enough said.

First Netherlands pwned Italy, now they destroyed France. Now they top the group and are through to the Quarter Finals, meaning they can afford to rest their players against Romania. This means Romania may just sneak in and both World Cup finalists France and Italy may be dumped out no matter what the result between them.

Amazing.

Holland have all big 4 (Ars, Chelsea, Pool, ManU) team players (or explayer) in their strike force

Robben (Ex-Chelsea), Van Persie (Arsenal), Van Nistelrooy (Ex-Man Utd) and Kuyt (Liverpool). Had Ryan Babel not been so unlucky and injure himself just before the tournament, it could have been five.

Robben and Persie, if they are at their fullest, are scary.

And why Anelka on the bench and Henry on the left wing most of the time puzzled me. And forgive me, but who is that substitute Gomis?

Even though the Netherlands looks really impressive right now, the same could be said about Argentina during the group phase of the 2006 World Cup. In fact, usually the teams that are hot early tend to flame out as the tournaments progresses. They also have a really tough side of the bracket. They will probably have to face a combination of Spain/Sweden and France/Italy, which won't be easy, even though they have already blasted the latter two teams. Also, I'm not sure this is being considered, but, usually when the teams progress to the knock-out round, they tend to play very conservatively. If Italy or France were to play the Netherlands during this phase of the tournament, I'm almost most certain they would play for a 0-0 draw and hope for penalties since they don't seem to have the firepower to match the Dutch.

Now the question remain, will Holland threw away their last game to screw both Italy and France?

A draw will send both Italy and France out

It is largely possible. If Romania wins, Italy and France are out no matter what. And since the 2nd ranked of the group is a candidate opponent for the semifinal, it's up to Holland to choose.

Not certain. If Romania loses and Italy-France will draw, than we'll have a first position with 9 points and a second with 2.

Anyway, since it's too long to explain the whole, I'll just mention the chance for Italy to pass:

1) Beating France, while Romania doesn't win against Holland (a draw is fine too).

2) Drawing 1-1 (or 2-2. or 3-3 etc.) with France, while Romania loses with Holland.

3) Drawing 0-0 with France, while Romania suffers a -3 from Holland (0-3 , 1-4, 2-5 etc.)

These are the only chances for Italy to go through the next round. If Italy, Romania and France should close all with 2 points, then the ranking would be made with the goals' total and goal difference between them.

That said, I think Romania will just beat Holland and pass. We have experienced this sensation in Euro2004, whereas we would have passed 1st stage unless Sweden-Denmark ended 2-2. And guess what, it did end 2-2.
