Likely the mystique of the ninja stems from common blokes too embarressed to admit they've been screwed over by a dirty trick

both reasonable explinations, but i wasn't debating how it was done, but merely that it was done in a way that most resembles Naruto.

also a reasonable explination is a time release, the movement of the hand that could drop a smoke bomb wouldn't be suspected if a smoke bomb didn't go off. Instead, it goes off seconds later, the ninja would time their hand seals to the time release smoke bomb. In this manner, a ninja can alone create this illusion without having to move their body as the smoke bomb goes off.

It's simply because it woulden't look right if suddenly in the next frame Onsoku et all were behind her. It also gives you time to imagine multiples of her behind the smoke only to be astonished, as she is. Also if they did the ninja blur in it woulden't have been as fun. Ninja's go together with smokebombs like milk and cereal.

Agreed. This show is so highly enjoyable. The character designs are extremely cute, not to mention great voice acting. Onsokumaru's voice = top notch, but I can understand that, he's a pro. Yuri element = hilarious hijinks. Also, this is one of the (very) rare anime that has an opening music/section that I like. This series has high priority when it comes to my list of anime to watch.

Just a question, why do ninja's really shout out their moves/techniques before they use it? Doesn't really that give your move away in the heat of battle?

It's like a form of Magic, everyone needs to announce their spells for some reason.

It's multi purpose I think. ^^

To confuse you opponent, if you have a long name technique, hopefully your opponent will stop and think what did you just said. Thus giving you an opening for your attack to connect. ^^

To bluff your way, if you have an impressive sounding killer technique hopefully it will scare the hell out of your opponent and sap their will to fight back. XD

Why do Anime Characters Shout the Names of their Attacks?

If you are an anime otaku, you must read through Ask John Archive.

Shinobu's expression when she's trying to use the bunshin jutsu in Kaede's room reminded me a lot of Naruto's actual expressions (her face turning red was something i had expected AGES ago in any ninja anime)
and as i said in another thread, Kaede and Shinobu's relationship is about as obvious as the Great Wall of China

I thought the serious thing was a parody of some kind as well, so I was laughing out loud there too
I'm going to bet that this "serious element" will turn out to be something funny as well.

OMG that opening fight between Shinobu and dark Shinobu looks awesome! There should be more fighting scenes in this anime, hilarious fighting scenes of course, like the one between Onsokumaru and Kousokumaru, but with more action. (Hmm, come to think of it, both fights are between twins...)

I watched episode 06, and I just have to say this: Female ninjas = cutest girls ever! I don't know about you guys, bit it's becoming a new fetish for me, surpassing catgirls, maidgirls, girls with glasses...etc and the like.
