Converting to .avi

Hi!! Can i convert a .DAT file into .avi file? and if possible what software can i use that is free? Arigatou...

If you mean .dat files from peer to peer programs, the name of the Program is AVIPreview.

The project page is HERE.

Be warned, this program, it doesnt really work. But it's more because of the way AVI files are constructed than inability of the program.

There is also some media player that will do this for you, it has a free trial, but I can't remember what it's called.

use Virtual Dub Mod, open dat(mpeg-1) file directly(drag the file from explorer to the window), then compression video by XVID or DIVX etc, compress audio by mp3.
finally, F7 to output an AVI file.

For me, I just rename it from 'video.dat' to 'video.avi'

Works fine.. No hiccups..

I did this if I copied the video file from a vcd to my computer.
