Rumiko Takahashi's Series

Takahashi is one of the most famous artists of anime today. She is currently working on InuYasha, which is a bestselling manga and anime in the US. She also has a hit series called Ranma 1/2, and a few others that are less popular, but are good nonetheless. Do you like Takahashi, and why or why not?

I personally love her storytelling ability and her artistic abilities. InuYasha was the first manga I ever read, and I totally love it ^^ Because of Takahashi, I'm an anime addict. She makes her characters loveable, and usually there is at least one that the reader can relate to. Not only are her stories action-packed, but they're also full of character development, which is something that is rare in many manga and anime.

Yeah... I like her works. My favourite one is Inuyasha. Hmm, why? Her drawings, character and plot are great. But one of her flaws is that she tend to have 'never-ending' series. Take for example Ranma 1/2 and Inuyasha. They are very long series...

I disagree. the other two long series, "Urusei Yatsura" and "Maison Ikkoku" are the mangas that us "old" Japanese otakus pop into mind when someone mentions Takahashi Rumiko. They maybe unpopular with the young masses, but still have a very huge fan base among "old" Japanese otakus who grew up watching "Urusei Yatsura" and "Maison Ikkoku."

Sure, "Ranma 1/2" and "Inuyasha" are great, but for those "old" people who remember watching "UY" and "MI," these two are bibles....especially "MI." Otonashi Kyouko-sa~n ^^;

I like Rumiko Takahashi. My absolute favorite anime/manga is Urusei Yatsura. ^^ Her Mermaid stories are great too.

Old? It's not really *that* old. :P I'm young and I love both Urusei Yatsura and Maison Ikkoku. I'm just getting into MI though. Urusei Yatsura is actually my absolute favorite anime/manga. ^_^ First saw UY when I was about 9 or 10 I think.

My favourite from Takahashi ought to be Ranma 1/2. The idea of a boy who turns into a girl whenever he touches water was very original to me. Though repetitive at times, the fact that she can make so much joke out of it also have me salute her full-heartedly. Due to the immerse popularity of the series, I believe she also revolutionise the defination of a fun anime with the classic effects that we see in some many titles these days...

- Characters falling off of their feet at funny moments
- Characters being kick flying into the sky and disappered with a blink
- Dirty old man who ties a handkelchief around his nose and steal bras and panties
- etc etc...

Unfortunately, Maison Ikkoku is not on my list of favourites as it never appeal to me the way Kimagure Orange Road did back then. I guess I was too in love with Madoka at that time...

I love inu yasha. But the more eps that come out the more my love falls for it. The never ending story is inu yasha. It will never have an end. This destroyed dragon ball and i wonder what it will do to inu yasha. Geesh i hope an end is in sight soon.
Ranma i love that. I haven't watched the anime or read the manga in order but i still get it. Thats what i love about those kinds of series. Inu yasha though is pretty easy to grab after you see a few eps. Sucks that viz releases both in REVERSE FORMAT and not the orginal format Viz learned to do the right way with shonen jump mangas why not inu yasha (least they are cheaper now)

Well, my theory about why Ranma hasn't been released unflipped is because Viz already published all of it unflipped a while ago (first edition of vol 1 published in '93). So why would they re-edit it?

Though, the copywrite info in the new issue of vol 1 says "New and adapted artwork and text (c) 2003," so maybe they're just being lazy.

I didn't mean that her other series were not good and that many did not like them, I simply meant that they are not as advertised as her more recent series. Now, when people talk about Takahashi, the masses most likely know more about InuYasha and Ranma 1/2 then some of the older stuff because the older stuff is not shoved in their faces the way the newer series are. ^^

I totally agree with you here. I love IY, but it makes me crazy that it is so long! I feel like I will never get to the end of the series. I guess I deal with it because I like the new characters that are introduced. Even though some of them disappear right away, many of them are in the series to stay once they show up, like Kagura ^^

I've read all Rumiko Takahashi's works, and if you ask me, my most favorite is RANMA 1/2 because it's the only series with decent humors that totally crack me up everytime I read it. Interesting characters! Great final battle! Good ending!!! Her drawing was BEST in this series, too! If RT restart "Ranma 1/2", that's no prob with me

INUYASHA only comes second ^^ Although "Inuyasha" bears such deep meanings, interesting characters and compelling storyline, it got more repetitive and boring as it went on, while NOT taking a chance to show what I desperately wanted to see (such as: a flashback of Inutaisho's former time, a bit of Inuyasha's and Sesshomaru's childhood; Naraku died too easily; the ending was too abrupt, etc.)

MAISON IKKOKU comes third. Such a sweet romance!!! Then...

Urusei Yatsura ...

Has anyone heard or read somewhere that INUYASHA is the last series RT created ??

Shogakukan should definitely honour Takahashi-sensei as their MVM (Most Valuable Mangaka) ever. Her series' popularity in the early 80s was close to the DBZ/SJ mania years later. Oh, and she still ranks as the top taxpayer among mangaka, I believe.

I'm not so sure. I had the feeling that she's too honest for her own good. In 2004, she was the 2nd highest tax-paying individual in Japan. Again, paying more tax doesn't mean you have to earn more =X.
