Perhaps you're not understanding English correctly.

First of all, step-siblings does not necessary indicate a blood relative.
A son and daughter of a diffrent stepparent that remarried, does not have any blood relation to each other.

Second, science studies only indicates that repetitive breeding between close relatives raises the chance of abnormality by a fraction.
It's still not anywhere near the chance of the child being abnormal from countless other factions, including genetic disorder.
You're being brainwashed by unfounded, inconclusive claims with hardly any evidence.

And third, "cousins" are not "close relatives".

Because of outdated beliefs that predate modern genetics. (You seem to be from France. None of the European countries have any restrictions towards cousin marriages... nor does the vast majority of the world.)

As already pointed out by aohige, step siblings are not related to one another by blood. As for cousin marriages - if you would happen to look up the increased chance of risk, you would find out that it is barely worth mentioning. In fact, it is the same as for any woman giving birth after 40 years of age. (Actually, the later has a slightly higher risk factor). Why am i not seeing anyone complain about the later ? People tend to be close minded when it comes to this, as well as lacking actual information. Of course, anyone has the rights not to favor such a relationship for whatever personal reasons, but there is nothing wrong with it on the grand scale of things. (I am talking about first cousins here).

There's an obvious reason for the teen aged pilot in mecha shows ... money.
Teenagers (16 years) are usually smaller than an adult, so the engineers can afford to make smaller Mobile Suits or whatever the thing is called. Creating smaller cockpits helps us to save money, time (so that we can see that uber-suit sooner) and helps us to save resources and the environment (ignore the fact, that the said environment is later destroyed by the uber-suit).
Also in all other Animes, where teenagers are the main cast. Smaller swords, outfits, smaller fuel consumption for th excursions, smaller swimsuits ... moving on, less food, narrower passageways it's all because of saving money, money, MONEY. And not something unbelievable, like the recently mentioned fact about maturing and character development. It's all about money.
After all greed makes the world go round (at least for me)

I don't buy that excuse. If engineers were really concerned about the money and resources hogging, they could just design armored powersuits like in Red Eyes, or stick to the good old tanks + aircrafts + infantry combo, instead of making wastes of resources like 10-15 meters lechs.

I'll stick to the "fullfillement of self-insert fantasy" explanation.

Are you kidding or being serious? Because I can't tell. From what I seen these teenager gets force to pilot it and for some reason they are the only one who could pilot the machine. There is nothing to do with money,

My personal favorite is Sword > Gun, and Pistol > any other Gun. It's a perfect reversal of how it works in the real world.

It's a biological imperative. An organism that relies on inbreeding is eventually going to run into all sorts of genetic problems, so evolution prefers organisms that don't do so. This is only a problem with successive generations of inbreeding, so it wouldn't apply to the first couple of generations (even between blood siblings). Note that parent-offspring (50% genetic similarity) incest is more likely to generate problems than sibling (25% genetic similarity) incest.

It's both a common phrase and a common attitude in Japan. It's also common in other languages, like the Russian nichevo.

It's curious that a lot of things that are thought of as anime cliches are nothing of the sort. Often, it's just a Japanese linguistic or cultural mannerism that isn't very common in the West, like "try your best" or "I won't forgive you".

It does cost less to hire a teen then a adult. You don't even have to pay a teen medical and 401k benefits.

Well, what everybody said. The problem with inbreeding is that if you have a rare reccessive gene that might lead to a genetic diseaese when the probabilty that a related sex partner has the same gene is much higher in comparison to a random partner. The real dangers are exaggerated and remind a bit of the "masturbation makes you blind" thing. One should rather outlaw smoking during pregnancy. If you have further questions about the risks of inbreeding, ask your local gorilla troop. Oh, and we're all blood-related since back in the times when our great-grandparents sat on the trees in the Great Rift Valley.

On that note, if genetic diversity was such a high priority, it'd be best if everyone were to marry outside of their racial group. It'd be best to marry someone from Africa since there is more genetic variation among the many groups there than in the rest of the world put together.

That's exactly true. In short, it is only bad if there is a very fatal condition that possibly your great great grandmother had.

That's not entirely true; it's quite possible to have lots of recessive genes that aren't terribly harmful, but will still weaken an organism. Likewise, the same is true of recessive genes that will strengthen an organism. Biologically speaking, the possible defects outweigh the possible gains, which is why incestuous behavior is selected against.

Enough biology stuff - I'd like to add mangaitis to the list of anime cliches. The one where two characters are fighting man-a-mano while a whole group of characters who support one of them stand around and just watch. The reasonable thing to do in most such situations is that they'd just gang up to beat the crap out of their enemy. Even the creators tend to know how artificial this seems, which goes a long way in explaining why one-on-one tournaments are so popular in certain genres.

Another predictable cliche I can think of is when someone uses the ultimate attack. If during the preparing phase the user boasts about how powerful it is and that no one can escape it and the hero (but mostly villain) will surely die. Then it's a sure sign that the attack won't kill the target. Either the villain will turn out to be much stronger than that, or the hero will be saved by Deus Ex Machina.
This one is prone to happen if the fight has just started or the attack is performed by a secondary or some other background character against the main hero\villain.
Sometimes one starts to wonder, if the true power of the weapon\attack lies in the character's state of health. Untouched and unhurt characters will mess up the attack, while those on the verge of death will perform them perfectly.

P.S. Actually there's a great site for cliches and scenarios used in anime, movies and other things - www.tvtropes.org

Make it moe...Lucky Star is probably the worst perp of this in recent years. Every show always has to have that High in Moe Character. The Cute Loli, The Shy loli Girl...Something that really raises it.

Normally the main character...Always having some hidden past that reveals where the power comes from. Ichigo, Naruto, Goku, Luffy...

Some clitches can be good,at least for me.I love the heroic potrayal of some shounen heroes and little girls who are known today as 'lolis'.Back then in 1999,when Cardcaptor Sakura was massive hit in Japan, the term 'loli' and 'moe' are not yet exist but nobody accusing the ones who likes them as pedophile.because Sakura is a 10 years old girl and of corse she was potrayed like that. After that many people obsessed with 'little girl' potrayal and the term 'lolicon' was born. After Sakura,Chiyo from Azumanga Daioh makes this a craze. Then the term 'shoutacon' is created for male counterpart. For me,I love lolis, even I agree to many good things can be a bad thing too.

Clitches I dislike today is the potrayal of 'pretty boys'.If you girls dislike 'lolicon' and 'moe',then I have similiar feeling on 'pretty boys'.I dunno when this trend exist but it just getting worse every year.Last year we have Princess Princess and Ouran and now they just keep growing. What kind of charm they have? For me 'pretty boys' just against the nature. They are just too girly to be accepted by other boys.It only exist in female fantasies alone.

Not quite a clitch but still something that I think that will be a clitch in future. It is 'crossdressing' like in Princess Princess.Group of boys dressed in girl's dresses to seduce other boys just purely 'wrong' to me.That anime says that the boys are bored because there are no girls in that school but this just only exist in female mind. For some boys(and men) are happy to stay away from their opposite sex for a while. They can enjoy soprts and porn movies which women hates the most.I hope 'crossdressing' will extinct for good.

Not true at all about the term "loli".
You're right that "moe" is a relatively recent phrase, but loli, lolita, lolicon has been around ever since the 80s, man.
Ever heard the hit song by the idol group Lemon Angel, Abunai Lolita? Lonly Lonly Lonly Loli... Lonly Lonly Loli Loli.
It was used for the lolita adult anime, Cream Lemon series back in the late 80s.
Even back then, the term Lolita, loli, and lolicon were popular among anime fandom, well over a decade before CC Sakura ever came into existence.

Cream Lemon series that started in the early 80s, if I may add, was one of the start of the lolicon fad in anime as well as adult loli products.

The one I see a lot recently is the "Why Do We Do What We Do?" one. Before the finale of so many series it seems like the leads have to go over their goals and motivations in montage, or it doesn't count....or something. It's not that it's just implied either, it's like the whole world stops for the character to give us their whole life story before the final scene can get under way.

My internal alarm just went off *Looks up*. Yes every series has to have a loli as a key character or it doesn't count anymore as well. That's Number 12.

The Japanese don't enjoy incest anymore than we do. The reason it's out there in anime land is that anime offers a high quality fantastic escape for the boring and often painful Japanese real life. Anything goes in a fantasy world, and the Japanese give people the freedom to enjoy sexual taboos as part of their entertainment. It's the same reason behind many other sexually-related themes in adult entertainment (AV, anime, manga, etc.) the West find abhorrent - loli-con, SM, futanari, etc.

The real difference between sexual fetishes in Japan and the West is that in Japan is more accepting of people having fetishes, but the West you tend to hide it with all cost. In term of ACTUALLY acting out these fantasies, I believe Japan is way behind the West. While many read and enjoy some of these things, very tiny percentage would actually act it out. Thus society in general don't really worry about banning these material except in the case of them getting into hands of children.

In the controversy about adult themed manga earlier this year, the big issue was about manga magazines either teaching young kids inappropriate things or weren't labeled properly, not that adult shouldn't read them. Backlash against some sexual themes like loli-con is growing, but other themes like incest are still tolerated, as long as you read/watch them in private.

There are no more perverts in Japan. They're just allowed into the open more often. Sex isn't a "sin" in Japan; it's just highly embarrassing.
