An Itunes or Napster for anime

Well seeing how going the legal way for downloading music(i.e. Napster,ITunes) is becoming so popular despite the fact there are still ways to get it free, do you believe there will ever be a service to download like a episode in DVD quality with all audio and extra features if desired, and maybe download a entire DVD(one with like 4 episodes) for a specail price for getting the whole disc. Now this service would only be for u.s. licensed material.
Prices would be like $1 to 3 dollars a episode or $15 for the entire disc. Obvioulsy the prices would be cheaper than going out and buying the dvd, because well you dont get the disc or covers.

They would have it avlabile in 2 formats (either .mkv or .ogm formats just to watch it on your computer, or in .vob format to were you could burn it to a dvd-r to watch at any dvd player.

Plus you would have to have a broadband connection because lets face it downloading this much data over a 56K would take weeks maybe longer. And in the case your comp crashes and you lose the data or you have to resume your download,as to not be charged extra or again for the same disc or episode, they would have some way to tell if you have downloaded it completly.

Just brainstorming but I think it would help the anime community, In cases like downloading licsend anime or manga.

GOD please tell me know one has thought of this before and brought it up here or all this typing would have been for nothing. I would get very upset.

Nah, I don't think it would work really. Itunes and Napster are useful because many people only like maybe 1 or 2 songs from an album, this means they can purchase the songs legally without needing to get the whole album.

With DVDs the bandwidth along used to send an ep or full DVD would be more or too short a profit margin for the size. Also, I think people l prefer to have the nice cases to put on thier shelves.

I'm really sorry to be the bearer of bad news... Seriously, though, you should read that thread... there was some interesting discussion going on.

Personally, I still think it will happen... but not for a long time (5-10 years?)

I dont know about a Napster or iTunes equivilent, but ADV has recently started something I find interesting. They are called DVD aniMinis. Heres a linky for Azumanga Daioh.

http://www.advfilms.com/catalog/Deta...AniMini™01.asp

Basically, they are releasing single disc trading card type DVDs that contain 1 episode and are about the size of a animini DVD (see that tray in your dvd rom. the smaller circle that is in the middle is the size of the mini dvd). Apparantly, you can buy these aniMinis, watch the episode, if you like it, you can trade it in for $10 off the full size DVD. It lists the RSP as something like 6.98, so 'previewing' the disc before you buy it would in theory give you a $3 discount on the full version of the disc. So with that Azumanga mini, its episode 1. If you buy it, like it, trade it in for the first disc of the series with episodes 1-4 or whatever it is. I think they have 2 of these animinis for Azumanga. I dont know if you can buy both minis and trade both in for the first disc and get a bigger discount. They seem to have these for Azumanga and Full Metal Panic. I havent looked if any others have it.

I think this could be a good idea. You can preview your anime in DVD quality, see if you like the transfer, the dub, the sub, or just see if you like that particular anime in general. Then you dont get ripped off spending $40 on a full dvd and find out you didnt like it. And if you like it you get to trade in the mini for the full version for a little discount.

Some problems with the current version of AniMini(tm), the single-episode each disc holds is dub-only. The "$10 Coupon" function of the production is also only redeemable through the ADV website, which means that you have to order at the MSRP of $29.95, minus the $10.
Personally, I would just buy the first volume of a series at an online retailer (17.99 + free shipping) if I'm very unsure.

Though I find myself researching a lot, whether I have prior fansub/raw viewings or not because if I do decide to buy, I usually make the commitement to buy the Vol. 1 + Artbox edition.

To date, I've bought the current R1 releases of Azumanga, GitS:SAC, Gravion, Kaleido Star, Kino's Journey, Noir(still collecting) without a single minute of fansub viewing--and I've loved every second of these shows on DVD.

That idea for pocket DVD eps are good, BUT they're just using it to squeeze money out of you like a cow. :fingers:

Did you even read my post? You buy them for $7 and get a rebate for $10 off the full version DVD. How is that ripping us off and a cash cow tactic?
