DVD-R or DVD+R - What's the difference?

I recently got a DVD burner and I'm wondering what is the difference between DVD-R and DVD+R. They both seem to hold the same amount of data. Is it compatibility issues with DVD players or something?

Edit: Sorry, didn't see the tech support category here. Should I remake this topic there?

Probably.
But for what it's worth, DVD+R is the newer technology.
DVD-R is compatible with more drives/DVD players (being older) but otherwise I don't think there's too much of a difference.

Here's a link.
Here's another link. This could go on forever, I'm sure...
