Nah, I have the first ten volumes but I haven't looked at them yet (I'm reading the english ones, only 2 volumes out ), I'll be looking at them once I get better in japanese (I'm pretty much still a beginner in japanese >.< ).

I picked up vol 3 at borders today. I was suprised to see it, as Amazon has the release date as June 30th. Well, I won't complain about getting a manga a month earily.

Wow... kind of sad necromancy for what was a fairly popular series on this board.

I picked up volumes 8 and 9 of TMP (english) today. The translation remains consistent if fairly unpoetic (i.e. literal). It remains quite interesting how much *darker* the manga is than the anime -- yet retains a funny streak. The culmination of volume 9 ends with the beginning of some tragic choices by Kaoru in her attempt to keep Kouhei her "betrothed" (the youthful "arranged marriage" bit of this story has always been a little queasy to me even though marriage doesn't come until age 16 - but it seems to be just part of this clan's customs and Japan really *still* practices several forms of arranged marriage including "matchmaker" services).

I'm still collecting the JP version but I have to admit my attention has been distracted by other JP manga and light novels now that this is getting a translation.

The manga and the anime don't really track 1:1 after the first couple of volumes.

There are more and different kinds of bad guys and things happen in different order, some things don't happen at all and others happen differently.

Hazuki and Kouhei are clearly quite a lot more mature in their relationship after the attack on the antique shop. Actually their relationship is much more interesting and less reliant on the "easy comedy".

The comedy itself is milder (and less dependent on loli silliness or there's no Shinbou absurdity at all). The tragic aspects much more tragic. Quite a few little nits are explained much more clearly (Hazuki's mother, Kouhei's mother, where the cat ears come from, the technical aspects of what is going on, etc).

Its different enough that I'd recommend reading the manga on its own. If you're reading Karin (Chibi Vampire) you know how that story is "the same" yet quite different in focus and enhanced in the manga. This is even more so. I'm finding it much more satisfying as a *story* than the anime (which was very good, but pushed some elements far into the "lighthearted" realm, like Kaoru's frustration that her "fiance" developed other interests).

Umm, I didn't say the cat ears were tragic... I said the comedy aspects (of the manga) are milder, more spitfire romantic comedy. The tragic aspects (of the manga) are *very* tragic.

There just manage to be cat ears stuffed in some closet she finds no matter where they go (sometimes for exceptionally absurd reasons).
And its more of a case of *her* liking them than Gramps or Kouhei.... (though everyone admits they're cute).

O sorry, I see that these are two seperate sentences. I thought the second one was a supporting sentence and where I bolded is what I saw. See where I made my mistake?
