Do you play games a lot? Will you have time for them? I love my PSP, but I don't have that much time as I'd like to play it. I don't use it as an MP3 player because I usually use my iPod and I don't want to waste the space. Not to mention it's fairly big. If you have a big enough memory stick on it you can put movies on there as long as it's in MP4 format...although the only use I've ever wanted out of the PSP is to play games. They have a lot of nice titles. If you have the time and money, I think it's worth it. The sound is a lot better than I was warned about. At least with my PSP 3000. Very nice.

If you like jrpgs this has been the best system for the last couple of years.... and you still have tactics ogre LUST, monster hunter p3, Valkyrie profile 3, final fantasy type zero (agito) and lots more niche ones coming out.

I thoroughly enjoy mine, but as previously stated, if you're not going to have the time for it, it's not a wise investment.

If you want a handheld - get the PSP. So many great games and the graphics are awesome.

I'd only suggest buying a used PSP at this point. The new iteration of the console will be out soon.

Depends if the PSP2 is going to be able to access UMDs. If they don't, it'll probably flop like the PSP Go.

It won't; that much is confirmed. Since no PSP2 games will be on UMD, I fail to see how lack of UMD support will sink the PSP2.

As far as backwards compatibility goes, it will likely use the Playstation Network.

The PSP Go didn't flop because it couldn't use UMD. It flopped because it was worse than the original PSP and cost more/the same. The screen size was shrunk, the build quality was worse. If the PSP Go had been an improvement on the PSP, it wouldn't have flopped, UMD or no UMD.

And Sony offering free PSN downloads to those who already had the UMD title would have cemented its success, but they stupidly did not do this. They would be fools not to do this with the PSP2.

It's going cartridge based(like the DS). The whole PSP - PSN library is available for the PSP2 though. It's a great move UMD's where shit.

Nobody liked it because it was constructed worse than the original PSP, had a smaller screen, worse ergonomics and controls, couldn't play the games most people already owned and Sony wouldn't allow game owners to get free digital downloads of those same games on their new devices.

So yeah it was pretty much a huge flub on Sony's part.

If your an RPG person, then definately. Most/almost the entire game roster consists of RPG games from generic to remakes to sequals. Also, if you own a PS2/PS3, you'll find alot of sequals to games from those consoles.

Myself being an RPG fanatic, it's kinda hard to say anything else about it~

No, I think best time to but PSP was bout 3 years ago when all great games like Prince of Persia,Tekken Dark Ressurection, PES , GTA were played.
There are a few games on PSP that are worth praising. I bought PSP and mainly played with my friends via Wifi and played the games listed above.
But if you are really into dungeon RPG like Monster Hunter Freedom or Valhalla Knights then you can buy it.

But I advice you not to do it.

Yeah. They changed the design but the worst part was you had to download all of your games. There was no UMD drive in it.

Cartridge sucks. Discs hold so much more data. Unless they will be a disc inside a plastic casing or something.

You do realize that by "cartridges" they just mean sdcards with different casing, right? The NDS games are just sdcards with a custom housing and connector pinout.

Yeah, optical can currently hold more GB per dollar (some bluray can hold hundreds of GBs), but those aren't compact (quite large, actually) and in a portable console, you would be restricted to read-only. NAND is superior for this sort of purpose, and when you have 32GB micro sdcards, what's the big deal?

A UMD disc holds only 1.8GB, you can buy much higher capacity flash memory cards.

I hear cartridge, I think the ones you blow in. So it's just flash memory then?

I'm actually really excited for the NGP (PSP2), the new ARMCortex processor should be enough to provide a lot of power to remake a lot of PS2 games. Sony already confirmed it can run games as graphically intense as the PS3 (Well, almost anyway) and I would love to play a bunch of my favorite PS2 games on the go. Though I'm a bit worried about the price considering all of the new features it has.

But it would take a long time until it gets overseas. And the price will surely be too high for me.
