I like everyone else here have an extensive anime dvd collection. Much of which was bought because of AMV's which lead to fan subs which lead to me buying the anime. However the most notable example of an anime I will be buying is Samurai Champloo but I'll wait until the box set comes out since it looks like adv will be releasing it as 2 episodes a dvd since the first volume is 50 - 54 min. Also bleach and samurai seven would be included.

No, Samurai Champloo will be four epiosdes per DVD mostly (or 7 DVDs for the 26 episodes). You seem to be thinking of Gantz which will be 2 eps per DVD (but at almost half the usual cost). Samurai Champloo is also being released by Geneon, not ADV.

I'm not sure just when a box set will be released because the first volume of Samurai Champloo will also be released with the box.

Regardless of the cost this is a bad precedent, even Chris at animeondvd.com doesn't like it. I urge everyone to ignore ADV's release so they don't pull this on Kurau and other shows. (but that doesn't mean go and download it...)

Although I buy R2 DVDs as well I don't appreciate this kind of practice in US. Like everyone on AOD forum and probably here I wish the sale will tank so ADV (and Gonzo) will learn a lesson from this but we are really the minority in the overall market. Hopefully the ordinary fans will take notice of this as well and not buying this release, and that's what will hit ADV/Gonzo the hardest.

Don't worry, even regular fans who don't download fansubs are cheap. I know quite a few. Very few people will touch these dvds, unless they see them for $12 or less. I would assume gantz will have decent sales at best buy, where adv titles are usually 33% cheaper, and some online stores. However, other places that sell it at full price will probably report much lower than expected sales. Further, a lot of people will buy it without looking at episode count, then get pissed that it's only got 2. This will blow up in adv's face even without urging a boycott of the series.
Of course ADV will probably blame it on fansubs and not get the message at all.
Still, adv might be on to something here. release vol 1 of a series with 2 episodes of $12, then go back to the full price, higher episode count dvds for the rest of the series. That way fans can sample more shows, and adv gets an extra few bucks for each series.

Planning to buy Fighting Spirit (Hajime no Ippo) when it's released in box set form. I watched it becasue when it got licenced there was so much praise and interest in the series that I decided to read up on it. This in turn caused me to watch it and after watching it I loved it. Even though it's a long show and will cost a lot of money to get the complete series it really is a show deserving of my money.

I honestly don't have the money to buy a series volume by volume....I'm definitely liking this tendency towards boxing series after they've been fully released. Some of these below may never see boxes, but I can hope.

Bought: Twelve Kingdoms (hell yeah)

Waiting for the box to be released: Gilgamesh, Scrapped Princess, Samurai Seven, Gankutsuoh

And dare I say anything about Naruto?.....

Apart from continuing what I already have I'm also gonna pick up Shana. Might get Fatestaynight also but it's too early for me to tell if the anime will live up to the legend. I might also pick up Mai-Hime although I'm more likely to wait for a box set.

And secretly wish that Nanoha gets liscensed.

Ah, why the hell am I wishing secretly

Somebody good, Liscense Nanoha

I would like to buy some of my favourite anime so far, such as

- Aishiteruze Baby
- Suzuka
- School Rumble
- Pita Ten
- Fruits Basket

I "would", because in my country, the only anime they release are the ones featuring mecha-scifi-wild action-violence in them.
Meaning my less favourite genre.
Instead, the manga market works better (ie we do have Fruits Basket), but I am not the avid manga reader, I have a lot of other things to read (for study) so I tend not to force my eyes more than necessary.

- Full Metal Alchemist (Its FMA, 'nuff said)
- Fate/stay night (I've been waiting this ever since TYPE MOON's proposal for the Fate anime)

And maybe Shakugan no SHANA (Hirai Shana wins) and BECK (<3 in spite of engrish) when they are licensed.

I've been getting the Hajaime no Ippo's for my mom as she loves Ippo! (she don't drive, so I get them and give them to her when I'm down watching them

However I prefer the Subbed version of Ippo, it's not bad dub, just how I prefer it.

I've also been watching the Kodocha's. I buy them, watch them, give them to mom, then my daughters to watch. It's a good dub, but for some reason Sana's hyperness tends to be a bitt annoying in the dub. I didn't notice it in the sub, so I watch it that way. Have 4 of them already.

I also preordered the first Hikaru no Go. Again, I buy, watch, and pass on to mom, then daughters. (daughters are last, because I may never see them again if they got them first)

Have the Azumanga's and Fruits Baskets and some older stuff like the Saiyuki's and Gundam Wings... bought as box sets only.

I only buy the individual DVD's on line at discount price. No full price crap for me, no no no, need to save money for manga ya know!
