Seriously, all the software security companies can set up all the most complex parameters to secure your data, but ultimately, the person running the server is still the weakest link. I remember reading about an article where NSA spooks left thumbdrives in the carpark for their staff to pick up, and see which idiot is dumb enough to plug it into a secure network.
Actually, a number of corporations and agencies do things like that.. they also look under keyboards for sticky notes with passwords.

Its a bit sad... we're not really talking about "quantum mechanics" here, we're talking about learning to use the tools one has purchased or paying someone who knows how.

Guess what? In a place where I used to work, a few of the staff used their keyboard's serial numbers as replacement to the default passwords their IT Dept gave them.

It is either I am very good at guessing games, or that they are just plain silly. I am more inclined to think of the latter because I don't understand women.

Also, I find it incredibly ridiculous that MANY people use their birth dates as their bank PINs, with the exception of some math geeks I know.

As a former pilot and flight simulation engineer.... absolutely too much automation is bad. OTOH, cleaning up the cockpit displays would make a lot of sense as long as you left backups to those froufrou glass panels. Not real enamored with fly-by-wire frankly either.

When my father was a flight instructor, he has to keep the newer pilots away from their hand held GPS so the would pay attention to what is going on outside. GPS is fine all and might be useful for realtime navigation...but it doesn't show you that other airplane that is coming right at you, nor does it show you the weather outside.

For a moment I misread "skill" as "skull".

In fact, that discovery has been going on for a number of years, I remember reading an article that pilots develop a bad habit of "multitasking" when they try to rely on automated navigation as they constantly attempt to keep up with the changing landscape shown on the GPS - this results in decreased attention of what they actually see in front of them and increases the chance of the aircraft flying into something solid.

Black Project aircraft aren't the same as commercial ones.

heh... (puts on sunglasses) time for another eye exam (blink).

No, the only license I ever had was a private pilot (Cessna and Cherokee craft). The rest was simply flight time in a variety of craft the companies I worked for built -- though I did get a bit of real flight time in one craft while researching a simulator bug. I have pretty good confidence I could take off, fly, and land most of those military aircraft in "real life" ........ except an F-16 or other fighter jet, I died on every landing attempt in sim.

The Internet is filling up with dead people.

"Technology Review notes that the Internet is filling up with dead people and
there’s not much anyone can do about it. David Winer recently complained that
Facebook kept pressing him to reach out to his friend Guy Kewney, simply
because their algorithms suggested that he was getting lonely. It “noticed that
he’s not getting a lot of messages, and that alarmingly he isn’t even posting very
much! Let’s wake Guy up, the ‘bot at Facebook seems to be saying. Only one
problem. Guy is dead.”"

I've been talking about the "problem of dying" in the virtual world of the Internet since the late 80s. When I kick off (probably sooner than many of you) - there's no easy mechanism for letting everyone know who might give a shit. You just "vanish".

I've got a list of instructions I've asked my offspring to execute (where to post, etc) but even then its easy to fake such an RIP post or announcement without a lot of link evidence (like an obituary ... though many people are only known by their online monikers).

So far there hasn't been a good solution.

At 43, I'm probably the 3rd, maybe the 4th oldest.

I've been wondering how to handle my online death as well, like instructions in my will as Vexx suggested.
