What We Do On The Internet

Well we do a lot of things on the internet. But more importantly are the others.

The internet was created in the 1960s by a bunch of very intelligent peoples called "Scientists". But at their time, the internet was just a means of sending a recieving informations secrectly, thru encryptions and other means. It was really effective then, because no one really had the technology to encrypt them the informations anyway.

Later on the US Defence Department's Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA), got intrested in the very unknown internet. (ARPA is communications based for anyone who doesn't know) The internet finally got its widespread uses after the Military finally decided to get intrested in the Internet. The internet was for fast communications between other military leaders, and was used widely during the Cold Wars, when nuclear missiles were a big threat like car crashes are today ^^. And yadada, then when PC (personal computers) became acually possible in the early 70s, everyone was starting to pick up upon the every increasing popularity of the I-Net.

Though when the internet was beginning there were few choices of websites to choose from, and few search engines to choose from too, like Altavista, I believe. In 1991 we started calling the internet the World-Wide-Web, and distinguishable names started appering, like pizza hut.com and the white house.gov. After this ISP (Internet Service Provider) started appearing like AOL and CompuServe, then we have the browser war like Microsoft and Netscape, but we have Opera and Firefox now, and still Microsoft and Netscape. [ should've bought lots of AOL stocks back then, hahah ^_^] Even then the internet was growing at a tremendous rate and now it's has grown even more.

--

But is all this acheivement of the internet really necessary? I've read that all the internet possibilty to surive was really a coincidence or are we really that good at preserving unimportant things? The truth is, the internet is so much more unstable and the percentage of failure is enormously higher than winning the lottery is. The more people who uses the internet, the more unstable it becomes, and this includes everything from internet site creations to web browsing, which are really the two majority. The pontential of the internet is very great but it fails, if it does come, which it eventually will, it will bring a large degree of confusions toward the people who lives in the time of the internet-meltdown.

The internet influences most large business now a days and now. You can even conduct lifes business from edge of your desk now. Since the huge popularity of Napster in 1999, which let users share files, specifically songs. This was an instant ban, and the court cases and lawsuits followed soon afterward. This was just the stepping stones for music downloaders and then Kaaza came up. Then again the The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) brought claims of lawsuits against the people of Kaaza. Now users have very many options of way to download music and other such files, such as the more popular P2P downloading: Bittorrent, FTP, HTTP, IRC and others I don't use.

Now the internet is mostly used for educational purposes, Business, and the overly large field of internet downloading.
Studies shows that internet downloading such as games, music and adult material are usually downloaded by the male portion of the earth. And the other things I didn't list are the female portion. But ironic to this, most of the users are females, a 4/6 ratio. male - 4 / female - 6 : This is out of a hundred percent.

I've notice that no one uses torrents for religious purposes. But it's used for self-enjoyment and self-achievement. Though the internet have proved its usefullness time and time again, such as news and information on really anything. How will our future look with or without the internet? Bleak? Good? Moderate? Who knows, the only things we can do is to prolong it usefullness to the people of this world, and try to fix any problems that we come across in our murky future.
PS: Do anyone want to add any missed information or does anyone have and remarks upon reading my essay.^_^ I hope I didn't misspelled too many words, i'm not too great at grammar.

Until the internet went public in 91/92, It was nothing but a means for universities and the military brances to transmit information.

The Internet is changing the way people do things, just like computers did. I'm sure at the beginning when the public first got access to the Internet it might be more for entertainment than serious and important daily stuff but now it's used widely by many in major aspects of one's life. People use it to do business, for social networking, for leisure, for getting information, and so on. I could imagine a world without the Internet, because as a child there was no need for such a thing. People lived fine without the Internet back then. However the Internet is here to stay unless something changes drastically. It allows us to do so much more things in more productive ways. Of course there's unproductive things one can do but the benefits are there so it is unlikely the Internet will ever go away.

When more people use it there will be efforts to either expand the bandwidth and resources available or start a new one (like Internet2) or something even better. (Think subspace communications *ahem* ) This is an information revolution and things will never go back to where it was if we humans can help it.

Quoted for truth. Of course there are many other uses as well. Copyright infringement, killing time at work rather than doing your job, and giving any random nut the opportunity to make his insane theories known are just some of the myriad of uses for the internet.

We're still working on that teledildonics revolution,.. probably set far off at an e3.? Like a Pa-Bell perhaps, only we borrow part of AT&T's old slogan,.. ... or better known to the current industry: "Reach out and *uck someone."

Well, what else did you think a chobits was meant for?

To me, the internet is like an information universe. Anyone can find what they wants, if it's free .

To add on, the internet also gives us unlimited possibilities and conveniences, like video conferencing, online registering for online courses etc.

The internet is where people interact with an added layer of anonymity.

The internet is serious business, people. It's never been out knowledge, media, or even porn. However, there are people who take it too seriously, or not seriously enough.

Here's a meter I made:

Not seriously enough (Grow up.) <------------- Serious business (This is where you want to be.) ---------------> Too seriously (Calm down, Gawd. It's only the intranet.)

Determine where you are on your own, since online quizzes are absolute BS.

What the heck is ilife?

You should try actually searching for 'iLife' on google if you're so interested. iLife is simply the package of software that includes most of the offerings that Apple Computer bundles with their computers.

As far as your theory of 'Internet meltdown', I highly doubt it'll happen like that. You should do a bit more research on how the internet actually works and you'll realize that it is in fact purposely designed to be extremely resiliant to having a breakdown. In fact the internet was originally made so that the US Department of Defense computers would keep functioning in the event of a nuclear strike on the US, because as long as just a few computers were still operational, they could still do everything they wanted to do.
