Actually I have - I keep waiting for Tenko's outfit to turn black and
she takes out a chainsaw and has a chainsaw battle with Kumiko.

Actually, that would be kind of cool.

Nah i just guessed if there would be a fight scene so i do not know if there is one, BUT the reasons i think there is one are:

1) Fumiko obviosly fucked with his family
2) He looks in one part of the preview all beat up
3) Fumiko's expression changed from I kick ass to I am fucked.

Plus if there had to be a battle between Tank and Kumiko i don't know which one would win. Tenko has some badass punches but then Kumiko has a scythe and bigger boobs.

rabidkimba is a disgrace to what it means to be a college student. Actually studying?! Who does he think he is?

Anyway, sorry for the delay. I'll try to get it done the day rabidkimba sends me the text file if I can.

After hunting for a week, I finally found full versions of the OP. I like the song enough that I'm willing to pay $$$ for them, but no, only the TV size is available, and the CDs have long sold out. I don't understand what the media companies are thinking sometimes...but I digress.

Unfortunately, the lyrics are equally difficult to come by, and thus far I have not been able to find any. So I decided to transcribe my own; I referenced Kamisabu's translation for the first half. I still need someone who actually know Japanese to proof-read it, though, so help me out.

Brand New Morning

誰も知らない場所で、朝が生まれ始める
星に乗った願いを今は、光を無くし、床の上に零れでいる
(星祈った願いを今は、光を無くしたの上に毀れている){1}

そっと救うために手を伸ばす

僕の声が世界を超えて、いつか君に辿り着くだろう
吐息もなし(吐息漏らし){2}夢が置いても、どうか決して忘れぬように
僕の指が全てに触れる、扉開けて遥か彼方へ

世界の果てに行っても、君の事?思い出す{3}
胸に抱えた願いはやがて、指が伝える青い空を???目指す{4}

いつか勇気出して、手を離す

僕の声が全てを超える、光だけて約束の日に
闇の??は心?ロマンス{5}、どうか決して恐れるように
君の翼白く羽搏き{6}、風に乗って雲の彼方へ

夜が眠る隙に旅に出る

君の声は世界を超えて、いつか僕に辿り着くだろう
吐息もなし(吐息漏らし){7}夢が置いても、どうか決して忘れぬように
君が僕の全てに触れる、風によってゆかりの中へ{8}

The sections marked in bold are parts I'm unsure:
  1. Kamisabu's translation makes sense, but during this part of the song, Meme was sitting on a star! Maybe I just took it too literally? Also, how do you conjugate 毀つ(こぼつ) into 毀れる? Either way, I'm not too clear on the meaning of this sentence...
  2. I thought the sentence means, "Even if you are crushed [hence no breath] and must put aside your dream...", while Kamisabu think it says "Even if you must abandon your dreams, exhale deeply..." I can't tell from the song if she sang もなし or もらし.
  3. Shouldn't it be 君の事思い出す? Yet, the を is clearly missing from the song. Poetic license, perhaps?
  4. I just can't make out this part at all.
  5. Ditto here.
  6. I think this is what was sung, but it doesn't make sense to me. How do you flap your wings "whitely"? Heck, what does "whitely" even mean?
  7. Same as 2.
  8. Again, I think that's what's being sung, but I also don't know what it means.

As an aside, this exercise taught me two things. First, my Japanese comprehension is not as good as I thought. I guess that usually is the case when ego meets reality. Second, my memory is a lot better 10 years ago, even though I'm only in my twenties! Last time I tried doing something like this (transcribing Night of Summer Side, KOR's first OP), I only knew about kana, yet I was able to memorize the sound of the entire song after hearing it a dozen times. So transcribing the lyrics is a matter of replaying the song in my head as I type it up. Now, I can't even keep one stanza fresh in my head, and I had to slow down the song as I transcribe the lyrics.

Getting old really sucks!

Ah, nice effort there.
As a translator, the first thing I do when tackling a new anime series is attempting to determine the lyrics for the songs. I admit, this exercise it more painstaking than the dialogue for the episode itself, as the words are barely audible, and the melody makes the intonation of the word totally different compared to when spoken.

The following is my interpretation of the opening song, not that I bought the TV version CD and checked the lyrics in print or anything. I'd be happy if it serves as reference.

Brand New Morning

Cheers

All of the episodes have already been aired a good while ago. As for the fansubs, I am sure we will all be informed when they are released, as usual.

That's actually interesting your discussion of translation: I know no
japanese at all but I'm a musician and am very good at picking out
repeating sounds (I've spent years learning various songs by ear,
so my relative pitch is very good) so I pick up words and how things
sound very quickly, I'm wondering how I should approach learning
the language since part of how I've done it lately is hearing
something spoken (uber easy example) "gomen nasai" and then
associate it mentally with the apology concept - over time I see
this again and again in various series and a consensus forms.

Anyone have any ideas on how best to learn this? Books?

Any ideas on

As for the song lyrics, I'm afraid to even look at them again. When I did the OP/ED for this, it was largely guesswork (and what I did in episode 1 was not even a translation!). It's very hard for me to understand song lyrics, even in English sometimes. I usually don't even bother with song translations until I have the official lyrics -- which aren't always even accurate. Every time I have to rewatch the OP/ED to check to make sure the timing adjustment wasn't a disaster I cringe a little. I know there are plenty of mistakes. Just can't be arsed to find them all.

I agree with Pysics223 about the awesomeness of it all. You are my fansubbing hero! And you seriously have a good way to let things make sense in English, which even many very accurate and highly experienced fansubbers don't have. I guess some are more concerned about trying to preserve as much as possible of the nuances in the Japanese language, but your fansubs are easy to watch "right out of the box" because they at least make sense in plain English.
