...

A) This is a kid's show. Naturally, people 18 and older aren't exactly going to find it to be fantastic. Sound like the one piece addicts.

B) The animation...once again. Kid's show.

Personally, I didn't like the show because I watched PPG when it came out when I was 10-11. However, complaining about the quality of a show designed for a totally different demographic is too subjective to carry weight.

THAT BEING SAID:

Compared to some of the originality of the original show, I admit this isn't as up to par as I'd like. But maybe we'll see improvements with ep. 2.

I've found the same to be true of the rest of the JTF series I've seen, which do not follow the feeling of G1 in almost any way, IMO. Even if you DO count the 80's silliness in the first 2 seasons. Ruined. Beast Wars was the only one to be really well done in a serious manner.

This attitude is eerily like those stupid politicians lobbying against M and AO rated videogames like Grand Theft Auto because they still believe video games are for kids only.
You don't think that anime is targetted largely at kids too? Gundam, for example, may have a large audience of sad 30something otaku, but it's main reason for existing now is the sale of gunpla and Char-colour zippo lighters.

The entire SEED fiasco was DEFINATELY not aimed at the usual (older) fanbase of Gundam.

And you need to get this idea of American cartoons being aimed squarely at 8 year olds out of your head. There have been MANY cartoons aimed specifically at an older age group, or those that appeal to just as wide an audience as anime. Older shows such as Batman TAS, and even the newer comic-based series are big with 20-somethings, and Megas XLR was dropped squarely on people who grew up in the 80s and 90s.

You can't just conveniently compare Cowboy Bebop or Akira to Care Bears or Spongebob, forgetting everything else.

You know that that's what a second season IS? And usually a sequel too? A continuation of either an overall storyline, or at least a storyline in the same universe using the same characters and situations and whatnot. Different universes don't really count - Batman Begins was not a sequel to Batman and Robin. Gundam Wing was not a sequel to G Gundam.

I'm sure I could say more, but I don't want to, right now :P

Let's see.. First of all I'm 21 and I loved the original and some elements of this new show. Second of all to that user that mentioned Sonic, I happen to like all Sonic versions.

Third this episode is an improvement on episode 1, but still it's still lame, and the producers seem to be forcing down the throat bubbles original innocence, but for some reason it doesn't fit, it looks forced.

I don't like the Henshin sequences, but i'm starting to like the henshin items and stuff, since that's one of the things that hooked me to SM.

I love the dog, but the rest of the show is still lame. The astroboy/sailor moon parodying has really got to stop

I agree with opticwind...this is a children show, and people constantly bashing it saying how lame it is, and never stop to think it is not a show targeted at them. Sure it is a bit boring that the characters just jumping around and not doing much and transforming take up most of the time in an episode, but in my opinion that's perfectly fine for a children show standard.

But I do understand peoples' disappointment in the fight scenes being 'noobed' in comparing against the original pilot clip...I guess may be they changed their decision and decided to make this show more focus into targeting young audience only? Because if it's too violence, the show may not be able to pass the TV-board and be aired at hours which kids could watch them...this is not a shounen fighting anime afterall you know...

How many times I have to repeat that I like the original show which was the same target as this one, and I'm an adult, And I enjoyed the PPG movie. Super sentai is more violent and airs at 7:00A.M in Japan. the same for Kamen rider.

Both versions were aimed for children, and this show is gonna have a bit of trouble when arriving to Cartoon Network, cause if this goes in Miguzi, it's gonna bomb unless they re-dubbed a la Cardcaptors

Mind explaining that to the fans who love those stuff? There sure were a lot of them in my locality, like at that Anime Convention I went to last summer.

Not from my experience. Unless the Japanese don't consider so much fanservice as "inappropriate" for kids, if what I saw in that documentary "Sex in Japan" is what I thought it was (a quote from that documentary went like "while the rest of the world regards it as pornography, Japan considers it everyday entertainment"). Then again, considering a lot of manga with a rating of 10+ in Japan gets its rating bumped to 16+ when exported to the US (eg Love Hina and Mahou Sensei Negima).

The products coming from the major animation companies like Walt Disney tell me otherwise (like, if I watch them, there's this tiny voice in the back of my head that goes "mommy, can I watch this?", whereas with most anime, my reaction is a bit closer to what I get from watching an R rated film).

If you're referring to those that appear on MTV like Aeon Flux, they are far and few in between. Besides I've never heard of Megas XLR until I saw the PPG Doujin, and even after seeing it (when my visiting 2-year-old cousin was watching it on Cartoon Network along with everything else there), I'm getting the same vibes as what I mentioned above.

I'm mainly referring to the way people want to judge a 2nd season by the quailty of the first, even if the 2nd season was designed differently (eg compare TH:RMM to TH, or the Love Hina Again OAVs to LH TV). And that's not even the issue with PPGZ. Treating PPGZ as a "2nd season" to PPG just won't cut it. Doing so will just make you disappointed.

To be honest I feel the same way, considering this thread has pretty much lost its productive value and is just about going nowhere. In fact I'm very tempted to recommend to the mods to have this thread locked. So I'm just going to put this statement down: You watch what you like, I watch what I like, and don't bother each other about it. After all it won't result in anyone being killed or anything now will it?

Except the same can be said about this thread itself, no one is forcing you to read it, if you don't care to discuss or hear what others think of the show, then don't read it, and don't post to it, your choice. If knowing a bunch of people ridicule or don't like the show is disturbing to you, then maybe you need to live a bit more and read bit less, not getting so tied up with what people think online.

Hey it's fine with me if people say "I don't like <name of anime>" and limit it to that. But going to the way of "Anyone who watches <name of anime> must have their head screwed in" or "it's crap and you know it" is something else (it's bordering on bullying, and it's potentially in violation of the TOS of the forums). At least you don't seem to go to that end, but a number of parties on the thread have just about done so, and as far as I'm concerned, that is not healthy, and if I was a mod of this forum I'd contemplate on locking this thread because of that (in fact I was a mod on another forum some time ago and did just that).
In short, you don't like something, fine. Just don't take you frustrations of it out on those who do like it.

I find PPGZ unique in its own way. When watching this show It's advisable to forget about the original, only then you could enjoy this show.

What I meant by unique was that "eat ice cream first fight later" thing.

I find blossom lovelier than the original. Her voices matches with her genki personality. Anyone knows who's doing the VA of blossom? I find it familiar.

Seriously, this is nothing for this forum. There is no name calling or anything and i've seen much worse which has been left alone. Nobody is being called a pedophile for enjoying a transformation sequence which is borderline loliphile appeasing or the random "fanservicy" shots (Which are really unneeded).

They aren't going to lock this thread. They are going to put a "no more off topic banter or I delete your post and ban you for a few days" note in and leave it as it is. That is how they deal with this stuff on show threads, but I am sure you knew that being here for 1.5 years..

That's enough of that. No more off topic banter or I delete your post and ban you for a few days. How about everyone try discussing the actual show instead of discussing other people's opinions.

... gee, I feel so predictable.

Agreed. This shouldn't be connected to the original at all. I consider this a different take on the concept and enjoy it well enough. I like seeing the different ways they went with things, if they hadn't changed things what would have been the point? It would have been like seeing a remake of classic movie in a theater and nothing at was changed, most people would be upset and cheated while a few might have been happy (looking at both sides there) but anywho back to something more ontopic.

Of the Z girls I have to say blossom is my favorite, I like what they did with this version of her. she just seems to look the best as far animation goes as well.

Yes I think PPG and PPGZ really should be viewed as different shows. Just because old one can appeal older viewers and the new one doesn't, it doesn't mean the new one is a failure.

This might be a poor example but it's like there are people loved original 'Fanta Orange' and don't like the newer ones such as the 'Fanta Fruit Twist' and 'Fanta lime' as much. But does that make the newer ones awful? It doesn't...it just mean that it is different and at the new ones doesn't suit the taste of some people that loved the 'original Fanta', nonetheless, there are still people that loved the 'original Fanta' who would also like the new Fruit Twist and Lime Fanta...so in the end it's all about the tastes and preferences that's all. So please, try to think a little more before mindlessly bashing the new PPGZ just because it's different from the original.

Anyway, back to topic...so far of the PPGZ, I think I like Momoko (Blossom) the most as well.

So far, I love it. It's a different take, and I like it. It's better not to compare this to the original. First, the target audience are for kids. Original PPG was for kids, but for adults as well (the humor), hence the difference. And I'm sure this forum knows the contrast between Japanese humor and American. Don't get too phased out. It is only starting after all, and like all heroes, even the ORIGINAL PPG, have to learn to control and focus their power, for them to get stronger. I think it will go to more action scenes as it progresses. From the first episodes through the seasons, the PPG had normal superpowers, until they started developing it, and soon, by the time the RRBs hit, and the ep of The Boys Are Back In Town, both groups now had DBZ-like beams, or something along the lines.

Besides, watch how the ratings will go up once the male counterparts appear. Watch. I was always surprised that the RRB were so freaking popular, just as much as the girls. And to no shock, they're my favorite villains.

.....Oh, BTW, any bets that there will be some typical shoujo romance between them of some sort? They better to the RRB right, or else...they seemed cute so far, in that OP one-second shot, that if you blink you miss it.

It seems that when the little annoying brat of Utonium's (Wonder who's the mother of that SPAWN) fired the Chemical Z beam, white and black lights shot out. The girls and the dog, Peach, got the white light. I think there was another one...retarded PPG Bunny anyone? Obviously, the villains get hit by the black light, so I'm guessing that what happened to the PPG, also happened to the RRB, just the evilier part of it. Wonder if they'll have weapons? And their Japanese names?

As for my fave PPGZ, I have to say Kaoru (Buttercup). I have to remember they have Japanese names now, and that Buttercup is her identity when henshined. I like her badassness, and her temper. But I also like Miyako (Bubbles), who is adorably pretty, which is why she's popular with the boys, and all. Sweet, but a bit ditzy.

I wonder if they are going to keep Bubbles' "I'm the Epitome Of Innocence, but piss me off and I'll shove my fist down your throat and pummel you into the deepest of hells. So don't underestimate me, bastard. *smiles cutely*"

This is what I imagined the girls to be when they were older, except for Momoko (Blossom). She seems too boy crazy to me, and I hope they keep her intellect, cause so far....

Ep. 3 is out. I hope Youtube has it soon.

I'm guessing this is Ms. Keane?! Maybe she's the mother of Ken? *gets shot*

Blossom is quite special in PPGZ. in PPG she was the leader, but a little plain compaired to the childish Bubbles and tomboy Buttercup. here, even her smile in the OP is sweet. Ok, maybe it's just that I can't get the OP out of my head . Bubbles lacks compared to the original, and Buttercup is not too bad.
