Spoiler for volume 9 spoiler:

That's from Fairy-tail's translation. Tokyopop (knowning how they've translated this series so far) will probably have their translation a bit different.

It's not that it's a bad thing for their translations to be that way, it's just that the translator for this series likes to keep things simple and add a little flavor to the translation, rather than being a word-for-word translation.

I know when I first read this chapter in Japanese, I read it a little differently too... (in some ways, I think my translation was better)

And what is Elda's taste, anyway? In the anime, they seem to indicate "love" but I don't see anything in the manga (but I've only read up to book 8)

And, MatriXX...that was WONDERFUL. Thanks. All that i could have dreamed for. Ah....sigh. (silly romantic me)
Of course, during all that, she never denies her feelings...or admits them...

I wonder if he understood what she was saying in book...6? 7? before she bit him, I think. "I...I lo!" when he turns away from her because he feels as though she pitied him. doesn't matter

No problem.

BTW, in the Japanese ver. of volume 6, she just says,

"Usui-kun, I..."

No cut-off to the word "love".

Wink

Yeah, read an article on how and why things are translated as they are. That makes more sense, anyway.

I think the American "lo-" was more for the readers than the characters.

Still, deliciously juicy!! Why do people watch soap operas when they can read manga??

Could somebody remind me how the novel-books are supposed to fit in "time wise" with the manga books? I see manga 9 and novel 5 coming out on the same day. Somebody told me that they fit "between" somehow.

And I still cannot figure out Elda's taste.

This should help:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...l_light_novels

There's no Volume 5 info on there yet, since it isn't out. Although it probably takes place somewhere in volume 5 considering they are still wearing summer uniforms (volume 6 takes place in the colder months).

As for Elda's taste in blood, I don't believe it is ever mentioned in the manga (I've read all of the volumes, and I don't remember it ever saying anything about that).

Thanks, MatriXX. Yeah, the manga doesn't mention. The anime is the one that indicates she sucks Love out of people (the whole Cultural festival)

maybe the books will assist.

Can't wait to buy it next week!!!! BOTH!! ARGGG.

I like your translation, though. "Weak and crumbling mask." So poetic.

I just bought novel 5 today.

Seems pretty good so far, and it explains some questions that have been left unanswered in the manga/anime, such as:

-How Karin's house gets electricity
-How Karin got enrolled into school without proper papers

And similar things.

This novel marks the first appearance of a tsundere in Karin (BITCHett is the second) as well (too bad Karin makes her un-tsundere later... or should I say, "dere dere" instead of "tsun tsun dere dere"?).

Edit: Kay', well I just finished the whole novel just now.

It was pretty good, but not as good as Volume 3.
Shinobu was pretty badass and probably would be my favorite novel character if he didn't try to
Spoiler for novel 5 spoiler:

I mean, the dude rides a freaking motorcycle and is basically the ultimate interrogator, plus he doesn't take sh*t from anyone!

Also, incest in this volume... lol

Tsundere (ツンデレ, Tsundere?) is a Japanese character archetype that describes a conceited, spikey, combative personality that later on turns to being modest and loving. It can also describe a personality that is good-willed, but its attitude and actions often contradict its nature. Originally found in Japanese bishōjo games, the word is now part of the otaku moe phenomenon, reaching into other media such as anime, manga, novels, and even mass media.

Ah, now, that makes sense. Add that to "moe" in my brain.

Spoiler for 5th novel:

I also purchased the 9th volume in English. Translation was yet again, very good (not as painful as 8 at least).

About the Maki special chapter and the other special, how are those going to be released in Japan? Are they going to make some kind of mini-volume release for them, or are they going to only remain available through the now-past Dragon Age volumes? (I might have to string up someone if it's the later )

I honestly have no idea if there's going to be a separate mini-volume for those.

Probably not.

You can find both of those chapters on Share if you can't buy the past Dragon AGE volumes (they're too expensive to import anyway, sheesh, the shipping really jacks those prices up).

I'm almost sure the American release of Volume 14 will probably include them or they'll try to release them in some form.

Also, upsetting news about the Karin novels being released in the U.S. :

Quote:
In June 2008, Tokyopop restructured itself, breaking into two subsidiaries under a single holding company, and cut its publication releases by more than half.[3][4] As part of this cut back, Tokyopop canceled the remaining releases of Chibi Vampire: The Novel after the fifth volume, due to be released July 8, 2008.[5]
My reaction to this news:

(I would have picked an image but I don't have my "reaction" folder with me)

NOW I'LL NEVER GET TO READ ABOUT THE GAY VAMPIRE AND KARIN AS A CHEERLEADER NOOOOOOO

Well, not exactly. I'm trying to learn Japanese and may take some when I go to college so I'll probably get to read them someday.

This still sucks for anyone not wanting to learn Japanese though.
