microsoft

has anyone recieved a letter from microsoft saying something about claims
I thought i was being sued! thank god that is not it but, something about them overcharging for their products

by the way does anyone know if software that many people download are traced by the software's company

Some are. My development company codes a bit of code that sends a small amount of info to our network. This way, we can see how many people are using the free/pro versions of our products. This only transmits your licence number, the product language and your IP address/hostname. In our companies atrium, there is a projection of the globe where our products are being used, colour coded by langugage.

^ Sounds like spyware on a commercial scale. Yet to be tested in court...

And yes; I know that some software tries to send info over the network. Not a big deal if you have a firewall (like you should). Default 'access forbidden' and there should be no (security/ID) leaks.

Those are if you want to join the class action law suits in your area against microsoft. You will only recieve them if you are in the same class as the lawsuit. There are multiple ones in different parts of the country covering different things.

And yes, many pieces of software phone home after being installed or for updates.

Yeah, I got one of those also. It's always nice to receive unexpected money.
