I mean she became the seitokaichou just so she could help Natsuki. That's just me though. I suppose being a lesbo myself makes me a bit biased but please take note that at least Natsuki returned her feelings during the day of Shizuru's grauduation. It's written in stone inside the 'Mai Hime Animation book' volume 2 under Shizuru's profile section.

*sigh* Shizuru bashers....it only makes me love Shizuru all the more. . She's no stalker...just someone who's totally in love with Natsuki. Hiroyuki (the director) even said it himself in an artbook but then again his favorite character is Shizuru anyway.

XD Last one was a good comeback! Yes, maybe you're right, maybe Shizuru's love for Natsuki made her do those things she did and I kinda admire her for all the things she did for Natsuki's sake but I still find her annoying. It's not because she's a lesbo, actually I don't have anything against lesbos (so I'm sorry if I gave the wrong idea) but I just felt like that even for love there are things you shouldn't do or at least not being so easily forgiven.
Anyway, I'm going to follow your advice and read the prelude and Shizuru's profile. I doubt it will change my opinion abou her but it may help to see her from another prespective, right? Thanks for warning me about those informations, didn't know about them.
And yes, Yukino was, is and will always be paranoic about "Haruka-chan". She attacking Mai in that coward way didn't pleased me either. Actually I called her a nasty name we I saw that scene. Then again everyone was a bit insane, well except Midori, Akane and Akira.

I didn't want that to happen too but I would gladly take that sacrifice in order to see the old gang back though it looks like there will me another main character "Mayo" or something like that. I think this is good news for Natsuki and bad news to the poor girl that chosed the wrong name to enter this series XD

I hate Shizuru with a passion but her scenes were far from the worst in Otome, mostly harmless fanservice.

Yes, being ready to kill is almost the same as actually doing it, right? Not that my reason for hating Shizuru is her killing spree, I just think you are going a bit too far in order to defend her. Then again, I think Yukariko framing Nao and turning everyone against her was a more despicable deed than all the murders of Shizuru, not counting resurrections, so my perception is rather skewed.
I wouldn't say that what Yukariko did was wrost than what Shizuru did. But I would say that she should be punished for that, severely punished. I don't really think that she was insane like the others were but I definitely say that she was more than idiotic to listen to Ishigami. I say, let Nao ruin her dear church and then steal all her money! XD

Atlas shrugged.
Opinions are opinions, I like Hime better and you like Otome better. World would be plain boring if we all shared the same opinions, wouldn't it? ^_^ That's why we are discussing the differences and the reason why we like one better than the other.

I don't have anything against Otome, but HIME is better! And I really hope that someday they will make another series of HIME and not Otome or Hime destiny.
I want reall episodes of HIME!

I have a chance to look at Mai-Hime, Mai-Otome and MO Zewi.

Hands down, the best one is Mai-Hime, without a doubt.

Mai-otome and Zewi had some good points, but for the rest, it sucks
I mean Arika is painful to watch, even know that she was too childish and immature, It is was going way overboard to a point that I want to cover my eyes everything when she does something stupid or acting like a idiot. Otomes loses their power when they get contact with sperm??!??! Who came up with that idea anyway, a Porn company or some High power that was horny at that time(Okay, all males in this country put your sperm in this missle, let send it over the Otome place and then we can take over the world. Hoo-rah). Seriously, Mai Hime is superior in all aspects. Good plot, Good Humor, alot of plot twists, Backstabbing, and the emotions was very high here, I know that reset is kinda of lame but i like it.

I am also in the camp that Mai Hime should be the one who has sequels and prequels to it not Mai Otome.

At first, I started watching Otome because I knew Mika Kikuchi was in it (I'd known her as Umeko first), but paid attention to the story. From 17 onwards, it was impossible to stop watching. Then again, I did the same later for HiME, literally seeing the fight to the end in the span of one day. Overall, I highly enjoyed both series.

HiME's smaller scale and intimacy compare equally to the epic world offered by Otome, and I'm not overly picky about any of the show's smaller aspects. They both hooked me, left me wanting more, and had good characterization and storytelling (for the most part). So I rank them both equally.

Now, as for where Sifl falls, that'll be a new test entirely.

My vote is DEFINITELY for HiME. Sure, the ending was very anti-climatic and not that fitting, but the rest was good enough to make up for it. Plus, I kind of liked the fact the ending was so happy - I just wished they'd done an alternate, sad ending. Too bad you can't have everything in life =/

But seriously, the characters in HiME were so much more well-developed and memorable in HiME, and the fights were so much cooler. Plus Mai was hardly in Otome and she is possibly, in my opinion, one of the best heroines ever. Midori also was twice as awesome in HiME and seeing as how she's my favorite character...yeah. HiME is one of my favorite anime of all time while Otome is merely watchable, in my opinion.

As I told earlier I liked Otome,it was funny, but it was HIME which made people to watch both shows and it is really unfair that Otome has got sequels and prequels and not Hime. The most part would like to see sequels for Hime.I don't understand why Sunrise can't do it!If he don't have any ideas about how to make their powers come bach, than he should read some fics because there is a lot of ideas about that thing =)

Well... maybe they've intended all along for Otome to actually be a sequel to HiME (as opposed to simply an alternate universe). If this is the case, they could do a lot to make this more clear, though.

I wonder if otome is a sequel where Mai decides to go with Reito...

I found hime superior, despite the ending, because the characters were more involved. The plot was more dramatic, and the powers weren't totally overpowered... I also found the comedy more entertaining, the fight scenes more exciting, the music more moving... even the ending sort of had it's place... sort of.

Anyways, Hime was rather brilliant, otome disappointed me, and even if I didn't have high expectations when I started it, it would have made average at best. The only good points I found was the back stories behind some of the characters, and Miyu seemed to be able to maintain her awesome...

Conclusion: In all aspects I enjoyed hime as much as or better than otome. Just my opinion, though. (All my points are subjective, after all...)

I really liked both of them, to the extent that I bought the HiME series on DVD and I am buying the Otome series now.

However, if I had to chose one, I would pick Otome. There are a couple of reasons for this.

I found the Arika-Sergey-Nina triangle in Otome more interesting than the Mai-Tate-Shiho triangle of HiME. Mai's attraction to Tate just never made sense to me, and didn't seem to have any basis, either. The attraction of Arika to Sergey at least made some sort of sense (dashing, handsome older man saves her from danger twice).

Like a lot of people I hated the "resurrection" ending of HiME. I always thought it was just a cheap trick to "kill" characters off, and them bring them back in any story. Like the writers are too lazy to involk our emotions in any other way. When someone died in Otome, they stayed dead and the event had a serious and lasting impact on the story and characters.

That is the six million dollar question for me. Why isnt that Mai Otome is the one that getting the sequels and prequels? Honestly, Mai Hime was the better of the two, even know that OL is gone, you still have SEARS foundation and other outside forces. I mean they can come up with some good ideas like this.

Spoiler for Mai Hime - Trial of the Battle Princess:

or something like that, I mean you can have new HIME, new Orphens, new Childs, the Dark HIME, new MIP, new battles(Mai v.s. Shizuzu, I know that all of us will love to see that. 50 bucks on Mai!!) and so much more. Sunrise, Please before you milked Mai series to death, just make ONE sequel to Mai HIME, Please

Because bringing back old (dead!) villains in a wrapped-up and self-sufficient story makes no sense.

Really. I know it's crazy, but it's Mai-HiME we're talking about, not some trashy horror movie.

I know that, but they should come up with something. I mean you got some many other elements that existed in Mai HIME that can be more dangerous.

Why? Why does there have to be a "Mai-HiME 2: Electric Boogaloo"? Just for the sake of having a sequel? I think that if there are some stories that are just fine the way they are and don't really need sequels, then Mai-HiME is definitely one of them.

Otome, on the other hand, allows for an almost unlimited number of sequels, prequels, interquels and paraquels, if you get me.

One of the advantages of leaving a season with many questions unanswered. We'll get some of them answered in S.ifr.

I think they'd be better off with a Mai-Hime prequel, showing the previous carnival. They could throw in some new themes too, and make it even more interesting.
Or maybe a one episode OVA showing how they got to the new planet in Otome, but that's just my unfounded curiosity xD

I totally agree with the Mai-Hime prequel, esp one on Mashiro. Or maybe a look at some of the other hime's backgrounds

Yeah, me too I wouldn't find interesting an eventual Mai-Hime "the OL strikes back", while a prequel is definitely what I'm longing for.
Back on topic, Hime is my favorite of the two. More dramatic, more twisted, more moving. Otome, on the other hand, has for sure a more interesting political background (Gundam-style I dare to say) and some characters evolved there in a way I've appreciated (Nao, Shiho, Nagi).

I have to go with Otome honestly. I loved Hime don't get me wrong, but there was something about Otome that made me want to continue watching it. I agree that they made it a little too fast paced compared to Hime. I think for me watching the Hime characters as adults made me enjoy it a little more. Personally, the characters in Hime and continuing into Otome were far more complicated and "real" than Arika's or Nina's character.
