There are a few Haruhi VN's, but Kai's referring to the one the Seitenkan group is making.

Oh, not interested then. If you guys decide to make a fairly canon-in-spirit non-genderbent version, though, hook me up. Always loved Ranma, and Minami-ke's Mako was pretty damn funny, so I understand the whole gender ambiguity thing, but I never could understand the interest behind the "genderbending already established characters" thing. Probably due to my aversion to fanfic...

Well, it's got Kyon, Haruhi, etc. as the focus... it's just got... bleh, someone else mind explaining it? I'm bad at this sort of thing

I personally think it a challenge to genderflip the characters and still have them in character. It is not easy to do well, but when it is done, it is something.

Does a "fairly canon-in-spirit using the characters of both sides version" interest you at all? As in the characters of one universe slide over to the other, and thus we have interactions between the members of two different SOS brigades?

Also I very much dislike the gender ambiguity stuff. Seitenkanification is a much more interesting process, what with trying to see how much of an ass Haruki is because he's a guy, how totally unmanly Mitsuru is, the bias people have toward Itsuko hitting on Kyonko, etc.

Which is exactly what the fandom did during these three years of downtime.

Hey, I said not to expect me to be able to explain anything, didn't I?

Well, I'm certainly not complaining. Itsuko-Kyonko games (along with bodily harm), Yuuki-Kyonko cosy pics are just some of the many wonderful things I'm glad to see.

Time for a rambling paragraph unrelated to the previous discussion.

I was in the bookstore in my mall today, when I saw copies of the translated Melancholy novel stacked beside the Twilight display. That wouldn't be bad on it's own, but right next to it was a small, hand drawn poster saying "If you l♥♥♥ve Twilight, than you'll l♥ve The Melancholy of Hiharu Suzumiya!"

Ew.

I would have taken pictures but I didn't have my camera with me, and stores generally frown upon people taking photos of their merchandise. I know, I know, pics or it didn't happen, but believe me. I'm far too lazy to make up something. Lies take effort.

[/useless post]

I considered that, but I didn't have a Sharpie or anything with me. I thought about asking someone for a lighter and buying some hairspray and just torching the place, but A) I had spent all my money on manga and other books already, B) the store is right next to the one place in my city that actually sells manga, C) I'm scared of getting a goddamn detention, let alone getting arrested, and D) I'm lazy.

I wish I could have scrawled the SOS-dan logo across the page. ;___; Lost opportunities.

...Unless it's still up there next week. In which case pictures will indeed be provided.

STOP MAKING ME WANT TO BREAK INTO THE MALL

IT'S CLOSED

IT HAS BEEN CLOSED FOR SEVERAL HOURS

I suppose if I'm going to be charged with vandalism, I might as well be charged with breaking and enteri--NO

STOP IT

The pictures will probably be crap and they might not show the actual stacks of books, because one time a cashier yelled at me for trying to take a picture of a book cover when I was trying to get a photo of something outside the store, and I wish to avoid that kind of situation. I dislike confrontation when said confrontation involves a walrusy guy with pit stains shaking his fist at me and giving me dirty looks while I loiter in the store. If the photos don't show any items being sold in the store, I could be a smartass and say "but it's not merchandise."

If they sold it to me I'd totally buy it, though. I could mock it from the comfort of my own home!

. . . Did it really have the hearts? If so, I'm kind of offended that Haruhi only got one

It had the hearts and the wrong "then."

EDIT: Is it ironic that a bookstore had bad grammar/spelling/whatever you'd call it? I'm tired, so my definition of irony is getting hazy.

I honestly didn't even notice that. Even "Haruhi" is mispelled

*e* Wait... didn't notice you edited it after the fact...

I didn't edit the misspelling in the name, though. That was there originally.

It's sad that they couldn't get it right when the name's on the damn cover.

That IS pretty damn sad.

Why must people think that all teen-marketed books are all the same when they're in different genres? It baffles me but I just find the scenario hilarious.

The same reason Americans think all animated programming is either directed towards kids or something like South Park or Family Guy.

YOU'RE NOT HELPING MY FAITH!

On topic: On Amazon Sigh is still listed as "The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya (Bk. 1)". I wonder when they'll realize it's in the same series...?
