Cruzz, I hope you could also translate the second episode ... until the thirteenth?

I like Shinsen-subs' subs, but they're quite intermittent (no offense to Shinsen).

first off, i have a question that has confused me a little... at the beginning of ep001, the animated titles on screen highlight "episode 08" in the middle and "003" on the right, but the text comes up with what i think is done by shs (i didn't watch the raw) 01 then characters (is it romanji... damn i'm Nihilliterate!) then FLAG... is this series going to be out of order? why 08 and 003?

It's missing a few things (like an ending song translation, or a second opinion in editing), but I guess it's pretty watchable overall. Also, if someone wants to use it for whatever vile purposes, feel free. Just don't give me credit if you do, I'd rather live in blissful ignorance.

okay. if you do the other ep's script files like that, i'm sure there are a few of us here who know how to encode and would be happy to make a FLAG sub group... i know i'd help out however i can... it's only 13 eps, it's probably very feasible for a groups of fans interested in this show to sub it faster and better than the others...

i could be wrong though, cuz on shs' site, the main guy doing the series seems to be really excited about it

i love this idea. not only would there be fast accurate, releases, but we don't have to deal with Shinsen. this is definitely worth consideration.

I can't believe this. Earlier in this thread we were trying to get groups to sub this title and look at this thread now.

I think that we should show alittle gratitude. It's not like any other group is chomping at the bits to do this title. If another group does show up, download their version. This isn't a fansub comparison thread.

Here's a shot of what lommm was confused about.

"raw" version ep. 1

"shinsen" version ep. 1

"raw" version ep. 2

"raw" version ep. 3

(They could do what yesy did in regards to Demonbane TV and then we'd be back to square one.)

i hope you're not implying that shinsen will be the only group that does this. the only one that does it fast maybe. and this new group idea would solve that.

I really am thankful that a subgroup started on subbing it. However, I wouldn't mind it NOT being subbed at all if the releases are few and far between (inconsistent), because at the end of the day, the said anime subbed few and far between would feel as if one were not watching the anime at all - interest can only last for oh so long.

You could always just keep it at the back of your head for a really long time and wait until they're all done, and then watch it in one go. (Like what I did with Macross Zero, sort of... 5 episodes over almost 2 entire years...)

People can maintain the interest... how do those OVAs with long periods between release of each chapter make money?

ZOMGZORZ! NEW AVATAR! *pops a champagne bottle*

That always failed me. That would mean there are hardcore fans. I don't know, it just didn't work out well for me. I can be patient, and I'm pretty much forced to be, but absence does not make the heart grow fonder.

You could forget about it until all 13 eps are done and then rewatch it... Lucky this series is aired quite quickly, they're airing episode SIX on the 25th of this month. That's in 2 weeks time, but still, six entire episodes... Doesn't Diebuster only have 5 or 6 episodes out? (after more than a year for sure)

They'll probably finish the whole thing by the end of the month.

I think that we should reread these posts A and B and also remember that ep. 1 air date was on 6/16/2006.

I usually don't put any hopes on any other group until after I have viewed a finished product that was downloaded. Then, it's no guarantee that they would finish the series. So, this is all speculation until a fansub is out.

So we should be grateful for what we get imo. If another version comes out that tickles your fancy, then download it.

We really don't need a repeat of Demonbane TV here.

It's is also relevant to note that FLAG airs through an encrypted internet broadcast via Bandai Channel. It's simply hard to get to us, people who don't live in Japan, even in the current age of 0-day speedsubs.

For almost a month we never even saw RAWs of FLAG, much less as a fansub. So, a lot of the lack of activity can be atributed to lack of the original material (and thus a lack of interest).

For my part: for now yes, but my involvement might come to an abrupt halt come september & university life II: the return of the time consuming studying. Time will tell. Time will also tell how long I will spend on episode two, but atleast I started working on it today so all hope is not lost.

Meanwhile, the script file for episode one reached a magnificient version 0.11 today! Very, very bad song translation added*, and various minor problems (including one mistranslated line) fixed from the previous version. Despite the amazingly high version number, this will likely be a relatively final release. The timing could still use work in parts, but to be honest I'm not particularly interested in investing time into that . Translation should be about as correct as it'll get with me on the reins, and editing should be ok enough even if I ignored a lot of wao's opinions on the matter.

*partly because it was my first time translating a song, partly because the song doesn't make any freaking sense the way I'm understanding it . Good thing most people probably won't bother reading the translation.

Okay just watched it without any previous idea what this was. I do like the camera perspective thing they do, although it seems like its being used a bit too much. I also get the feeling that theyre milking the photography theme to add more still images. Also the character style seems almost Disney like - I dunno about that. Lastly the mech thing seems almost out of place since the rest of the series seems to try for realism. I suppose you could get used to it after a while. Meh, I dunno if Ill keep up with this one.

wow.... the first episode by shinsen blew me the hell away... i think this will be the first anime that i have seen that actually confronts social commentary... awesome... i dont expect alot of people to like this, and i can already picture alot of people complaining about how slow it might seem. This anime seems to be going in an intellectually and politically influenced direction. So immature kiddies should stay away... lol... I think this first episode is pribably the best directed episode i have seen of this season. Anyone else agree?? u can actually see the homage to Scorcese's directing from Casino and Goodfellas. simply amazing.

is anyone else getting a Metal Gear Solid vibe from this ??

No, I think Honey and Clover episodes are the best directed.

A lot of people seem to be waxing lyrical at this show ... it should mean it's good, but since my interest in this show seems to be a flight-of-fancy only, I'm not as into the anime as others are.

Physics, i truly love honey and Clover... but i wont say the direction is great... the writing is. If u want to see great direction, and the power of the "eye" in anime check out Planet ES and Gankutsuou and look and the different effects of editing, panning, and trucking and how they bring out effects. The direction of honey and clover is far from sophisticated... in fact its greatness is in its simplicity.

If u watch flag 01 again, try and picture urself coming up with the different innovations visually, and imagine the thought process, technicality and imagination it took to see it through. Then think about how much sophistication is involved in telling a tale through a lens and one singe point of view. Think about how our vision in restricted through that one single camera that moves naturally and gracefully. Then think about the one scene where she actually takes the "flag" picture. That alone is more sophisticated than the entire 2 seasons of H&C (and i love H&C). Then think about how the director incorporated all the social (how the world views 3rd world countries), political (issues with nations and how the UN works) and technical (the science involved in making the HAVWC) all within 20 minutes, yet we absorbed it all in good pace.

I know ur a honey and clover fanboy (i have read ur blog and replied to some of ur comments here and there) but its greatness is in simplicity. Infact i think the show would be much greater if they got rid of those exagerrated emotions that cause them to go into chibi-form or wutever its called.

Nice photography. it was good, the only thing that tweeked me, was the mecha.

I don't know what to make of it.

It's either designed completely inadaquate for it's role as a special operation role, or it's an design overkill for a carrier role.

At this moment im leaning to the former.....

I guess it's much better then normal mechas that has no internal weapon, i've just seen the first episode so maybe im to hasty to judge, but until I see some extra equipment to boost the firepower for that mecha, i still think that mecha is all show and no go.

Seems like a lot of people are kind of mumbling that the mecha really was out of place - well, it seems to be the majority opinion. I don't really care about the mecha but I agree it seems disposable.

However, it isn't just for show because it does get used in the next two episodes. The show also deals a bit with the 'professionalism' of war and what the fighters think and feel after they do their job. Their reactions to actually using HAVWC aren't very clear or obvious but they seem quite beliveable.

Also while I'm glad someone has finally released a translated version of the first episode for people to see, I'm afraid that while I'm not a superb translator or editor or whatever, there are some mistakes which leave me seriously in doubt as to the skill of the translator. There, I said it... (Although about 80% of it is right anyway)

As to whether people's itnerest in this will hold up... well, because of the less "exciting" nature of this show I guess they're making up for it with fast releases (in Japanese). Nobody is expecting English fans to keep up with it and I think complaints that "we'll lose interest if you don't sub fast enough" are sort of irrelevent... Who's forcing you to lose interest? Sure, maybe people like me want more people to see the show and have interest in it, but if they can't wait through the time it takes to translate and properly edit the thing then there's no point even asking them. They probably don't fall into the target audience (for English subs) any more. It would also save everyone a lot of unpleasantness and trouble if they just stopped watching it and went back to whatever else they were watching... but that's just my opinion.

Also liek MrProphet said it really can't be helped that the raws are not so easy to come by. I'm actually a little surprised that this is being put on Animesuki because of the Japanese company finds out this is so getting a C&D or whatever. Ripping off the TV waves is one thing, but ripping off an encrypted digital stream and then putting it up for people to see is like directly violating the rules, but of course here we are not caring (I'm not condoning it or anything, btw)
