They make a profit on everything they sell...

In terms of finances...Nintendo made more profit than Sony and Microsoft...even with lower console sales, because they make money on every console they make.

well that depends, should be more like did ps2 and xbox/xbox 360 make a good profit, since the Sony company generally makes a profit through selling things other than the ps2 same with Microsoft.

exactly, its like comparing Hyundi (<- A korean car company that makes stupidly cheap models) to Misubishi.

While Misubishi is primary known to make cars, they make EVERYTHING to pens, microwaves, oven the lot.

While hyundi makes only...well...cars (if im not mistaken).

For one who focus on one market, to compare to the other who does many render that comparison in financial profit, useless.

so for us to truly compare then they most only be in the revelant market.

Of course the point is moot as hyundi cars can never match the engineering quality of Misubishi.

But thats what JanthraX^ is trying to say.

You might also see a huge different in number even if you compare the raw data inthe gaming hardware sector between nintendo or sony, simply because of the shear size of the company.

If you want to see a true picture you have to factor in, advertisment, hardware development and distrubution cost per profit, on a yen on yen comparision. With a ratio like that only then can we show if sony can outperform nintendo.

While im no business expert, I personally believe that nintendo will show they are the leader in spending their money wisely. After all, in the UK the most successful Football club is at the bottom of the financial league, while the most surprising team at the top of the financial league is one of those middle no-names who have been consistantly in the 7-4 rank, never dropping below, and steadily keep rising each season. The only reason they can't go any higher is that all the best players worth investing are on the other teams, and thats because the other clubs offer rediculous amount of money for them, yet not surprisingly it doesn't mean all the clubs that did, are in the top 5...

Check the published financial results of each year. Sony has been making losses for about three years now, if I remember correctly. M$' gaming division also has been making losses each year. Nintendo has always made profit.

It was released...what...a week before/after the PS2?
Try 19 months and you're close.

Dreamcast failed because SEGA didn't promote or support it enough. While it had a splendid start in the US, they didn't follow it up, and the PS2 pre-release hype, such as the infamous "REAL TIME FINAL FANTASY VIII BALLROOM SCENE RENDERING EMOTION ENGINE CAPABILITIES, SUUUUUPERCOMPUUUUTEEER!" taglines and such didn't really help the Dreamcast either.

Well, why not?

For the price of one PS3 and the one or two good games that will be out for release he can get a PS2 and like 15 PS2 games. Even more if he finds good prices for used games.

That was only a rumor based on patents they currently hold, and for PS3 mind you, but in any way it's simply incorrect.

really? In Japan it is illegal to sell second hand games, or buy them.

If it can happen in Sonyland territory, don't think your immune from it, America is western Sonyland, and you know what they say "There's no smoke without fire"....

Not true. It is legal to sell used games in Japan. What has become illegal now (from April 2006) are electrical appliances prior to being manufactured before April 2001 under the Electrical Appliance And Material Safety Law cannot be re-sold. This includes game consoles such as the PS2 and Dreamcast.

Never bought a console before and know very little about the Sega console beyond the name. It is very unlike I would buy one no matter what the cost. Why would anyone get one instead of a Wii?

While Sony will probably not stop 2nd hand software sells they seem to be doing a very poor job in promoting their new console and corporate name in general.

Why would I want a BlueRay DVD player? I don't really want a fancy new TV and most of the programs I watch I do so in a window on my computer at less than normal TV resolution.

All the hype is currently around the Nintendo Wii. While I have take an irrational dislike to the new name, based on the current pricing it will just end up being an impulse lunch time purchase for me, probable followed by a large number of games which I will hardly ever play......(much like my Nintendo DS)

I have noticed a large number of people talking about getting a Wii60, (a Wii and a Xbox360) for same/less??? price than the PS3. Will Sony actually given the new XBox a boost?

However it will come down to the games on the PS3.

As it happens Hyundai was a huge company however it has been restructured over recent years.

I've read something about that on GameSpot months ago. It was something to do with AC adaptors. Stores had already found a loophole by not selling the adaptor with the console.
