Who decides what can be made into a thread? I've never seen such an inflammatory thread title here before.

Does Lacus' seed mode actually do anything? Or is it just for show?

Heh. When it comes to Mary Sues/Marty Stus, there are few characters in fiction that can match up to either Alexander the Great or Genghiz Khan anyways, so this particular criticism has never carried a lot of weight with me.

This thread was created back in 2006, when any poster could create their own thread. By now, it's more of a character analysis thread, so I'm letting it be.

I guess it depends on your perspective. From my point of view, "seed mode" isn't some sort of magical power-up; instead, it seems more like a representation of a character's state of mind.

It lets her cow bad dogs in a way even weaponry can't.

Well, it should look awesome, but it does not, actually.

OH nothing, it's even debatable if its SEED mode, or something else. Because the two scenes depict her of having a heightened sense of what was going on. The other scene is even more mysterious as she can apparently sense Kira.

Pretty much. We don't even get to see any SEED falling down to signify it happening. And other characters WITHOUT the SEED have sensed others, so the SEED isn't necessary for that.

It's not really that debatable given that we've never seen that phenomenon in any other cases in Seed before. Then again, whether it's the case or not isn't a particularly important point.

I happen to have a SEED official fan book and it does state that Lacus has SEED, of course Kira, Athrun and Cagali as well. And even if 4Tran usually don't like us to refer to the games as sources, Lacus and the others always had SEED in SRW and SD Gundam.

SEED itself means Superior Evolutionary Element Destined-factor, like what it says, its some kind of evolutionary factor in humans. Its probably in their genes for these 4 characters to be able to enter SEED mode, what it does for each of them is not totally known.

Also in GSD, Durandal was said to have selected Shin as his pilot pawn because his expertise in DNA and genes saw a certain potential in him. Durandal was able to find that Shin had a 'SEED gene' and selected him for the pilot of Impulse and Destiny later on.

I've managed to watch SEED in its entirety, and this is how I would describe Lacus:

She's a more assertive/proactive version of Relena Peacecraft/Darlian with elements of Lynn Minmay.

I can tolerate her in SEED, but I've read that in Destiny, that's when her character went completely off the rails.

I say you should make that judgment for yourself after you've seen her in DESTINY.

Here's two interviews from 2008, in which Rie Tanaka describes how Lacus Clyne was the hardest role she played so far:

Quote:
Q10: What’s the hardest character for you to do?

Rie: Probably Lacus. Part of it was because I played Meer at the same time, but Lacus was not very realistic like a human being. There isn’t a lot of emotion and she doesn’t show it. She’s always nice and gentle, and she doesn’t show much human emotions. She always has her own style. Because of the war that is going on, and the people dying, she expressed a bit of anger and sadness, but I had to play it in a certain style. I always had to check with the director to make sure it’s what he wants.

Quote:
GM: What’s the most difficult role that you’ve played, and how did you overcome it?

RT: [Gundam SEED's] Lacus Clyne, because the character has to be very reserved and commanding, even if she’s mad or showing some expressions, she still has to be a reserved character, and this was over a span of four years including Destiny, and it was very difficult.

I'm wondering if it's similar to what happened with Mark Hildreth, when he was told to act robotic and emotionless in his role as Heero Yuy?

I keep seeing all these references to "Lacus Dust". What is it?

I'm prolly guessing that it's SEED's version of "A wizard did it".

It brought back Mu La Flaga, Andrew Waltfield, and saved Kira's life, twice.

And the Lacus Dust also affected other universes, like how it brought back Zechs in time for Endless Waltz.

For me Lacus is an embodiment of a glass figure. Shaped in a way most will adore and if you look at it you'll see the world on the other side, though at the cost of emptiness. You won't ever see anything going out but you'll see lots going through it.

Just a joke about the fact that Kira is stronger when Lacus is around.

Which is something I read a lot of posts back, that she's basically Kira's and Athrun's Game Shark, as well SEED's version of "A wizard did it" when it comes to Mu La Flaga and Andrew, and outside of SEED, Zechs.

"Lacus Dust" is a joke for certain stuff that happens in SEED when Lacus is around or involved.

For example, Kira. Dude becomes a total beast when Lacus is nearby, and the Freedom has particles coming out of it that people said looked like pixie dust. Somebody said it must be Lacus's magic pixie dust, which then became Lacus Dust.

Lacus Dust was then attributed to a bunch of stuff jokingly, such as Kira's superhuman ability, the performance of the Freedom/Strike Freedom and the Justice/Infinite Justice, Lacus's ability to charm pretty much anybody and have total control of the world basically fall into her lap with her even trying to have it happen, and so forth. The Gundam 00 equivalent of this is the GN Particles, which humorously enough actually DO do a bunch of unexplainable crazy things in the actual plot.

As for Lacus herself...she is love and awesomeness. Screw the haters.

Do you think that the "Lacus Dust" affects other Gundam shows, even those before SEED's original broadcast?

I've already mentioned Zechs' resurrection in Endless Waltz.
