Yes, Wing Zero and Freedom are the gundams that set the definition of gundam. MSes that make people crap their pants, and throwing a million grunts at them is no better than doing nothing. THOSE are the gundams which should be called that.

Those are the Gundams that totally ruined the vision which Tomino wanted for Gundams.

As others have voiced, I don't think seeing 0079 reanimated in the fashion that they did the Zeta triology would be half bad - in fact, I'd really like to see it (some changes to the story could be used, but I'd prefer it stayed true to the original).

The only problem is the viabiliy of actually producing the re-animation; Is there enough interest in it happening? Would the potential sales of the product be able to meet the cost of production? We have to remember, Bandai recently released the entire series on R2, would the Japanese (the primary Gundam market) be willing to pay out even more money for the series?

I agree, I think SEED/CE is way more hot right now, and that's why we're seeing Stargazer and an original GSD Movie coming out next. And I wouldn't write off the oft-speculated 3rd season of SEED either. GSD actually made more money than SEED despite a lot of people hating the second half of it. I think a newly animated MSG would be awesome but it seems like a financial liability to me. Although, if they did it the DVDs would probably be sold at a normal price level. It's my understanding that the MSG DVDs in Japan are being sold at an exhorbitant price level, something like $600 per box-set. That's ridiculous.

Actually, $650 for for two R2 boxsets (the entire series) is pretty much the norm when it comes to R2 DVD releases. >.>;

I guess that's true. Japanese DVDs are just too expensive. I'm still crossing my fingers that we'll get an R1 re-release with Japanese audio.
